I have a "stupid" question.........

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I am very active on the Mid-Atlantic Forum-----Which is irrelevant to my question here---BUT....

Sometimes, like when we all get together for a Swap, I post a large number of photos from it. No problem there..................BUT---Now, when i want get back to the body of the Post, do I really have to click the back arrow (through EVERY picture I have posted) to get back to the original Post?
This seems SOOOOO time consuming and "boring".....

I guess my question is: Is there a "click" somewhere that I can use that will take me back to the original Post in a flash---instead of clicking "back" for 10 minutes until I get back to the Post?????

Thanks---Gita

When you're at the bottom of a thread, there's a link to take you back to the top of that thread.

If you're somewhere out in the middle, you can use the "elevator bar" on the right-hand side to scroll up (or down.)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Also, your browser back button should have a drop down menu next to it and from that you can see a list of the most recent pages visited. Scroll down & click on the one you want to go back to, making sure you also hit your Refresh button to update the page so it shows any changes or new posts made since you were last there.

Thanks, Terry.

I do see the "back to the top" option. Will try it--I am just not sure if it will JUST take me to the top of the thread, but not "back" to before I posted 10 pictures. In other words--I can get to the "top" by using the "elevator bar" but going "back", I may still have to do the "go back one page" thing x as many pictures that I posted. I hope my question wasn't confusing.....
Sometimes, rather than do all the "back one page" thing, I just close out DG and then open it again and I am back where I want to be.

Sue--
When I am on DG--the "back" arrow does not have a drop down menu of previous pages I have visited. All it says is "Go back one page".

Thanks, Gita

What browser are you using. Both IE and Firefox have that feature for me.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

As does Safari on Mac (although on it, you have to click and hold the back button for a second, then the list of other pages show up, if you just click and let go right away then it just takes you back one page)

Or once you've sent a post (with or without a picture) one of the options that comes up on the screen is to go back to the thread you just posted on, that'll take you to the beginning of the thread which is where you want to be if I'm understanding you correctly.

I just use the 'home' key to get to the first post and the 'end' key to get to the bottom where you can post.

Gita, I think I may be misunderstanding what you're doing, or trying to do.

When you add a new post (with a photo), what are you doing (where are you going) after you press "submit" for the new post?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I reread the original post again and I too do long threads with picture after picture but I'm not sure what she meant by going back one post at a time to get back to the original post. I have never had to do that. I think you may be missing that one click link that takes you right back to the top of your thread. Sometimes we get in such a habit of doing it one way, we miss the obvious right there in front of us.
When I was talking about the drop down menu, it wasn't on DG. I meant on your browser, the toolbar at the very top of your screen. You should have a back arrow, forward arrow, a home button etc. I often use the drop down menu from that back arrow to go back to a page I had visited several clicks back.

These are the options you get after replying or posting to a thread, including adding any pictures. Which one do you use?

OK--I will try to explain better. Maybe I am simply missing an obvious step....

There are X number of threads I am "watching", so when I go to DG and click the "refresh" button, all the watched threads come up--all listed. I open them all--one at a time- to see what has been added and what I can add/respond to. Then I click the back button to get to the listing again and open the next one, etc.

We just had a big Plant Swap on the "Mid Atlantic Forum" and now there is a Post called something like--"Becky's Swap Follow-up".. This is where we are all now posting pictures...me included.

SO! As it is on my list of "watched Threads", I open it and read/look at what everyone else has added, and now I am going to post 10 photos I took. NO problem! DONE!

NOW--my goal is to get back to the list of "Watched Threads"--or I cannot click on the next one. Here is where I was/am getting frustrated because the only way I know to get back to the watched Threads list, is to click the "back" arrow through ALL the pictures I have just posted--one at a time!
I don't mind if I just added one or two pictures, but TEN!!!! It is very time consuming....
I just know there has to be a better way!

I have tried (as per your suggestions) clicking on "back to the top of this thread"--and it does take me there--but I still have to get back to my "watched Threads" list (at least in my mind...) or how else will I be able to go to the next "watched thread"??? So then I strt clicking the back arrow and it is the same thing--all over again.
IF THERE IS A BUTTON FOR GETTING BACK TO THE WATCHED THREADS LIST--that is what I need to know. But this "button" I click on would have to "eliminate" going back picture by picture to get back to the list. I hope this is clear......

Maybe I should try the "home" button and then see if that is what I have been missing...
Would this be the solution?

Calif_Sue--
I used the wrong term.....in going back one "post" at a time. It should have been one "picture" (posted) at a time. AND--I have just noticed that there is a very small down arrow between the "back" and "forward" arrows in my upper tool bar. If I right-click on that arrow, there IS a drop down menu with places I have been and can click on. Just have to experiment and see if it takes me back to my "watched Posts"......The ULTIMATE goal!!!!!.........:o)

Terry,
This is as best as I can explain all the steps I take. WHAT am I missing?????

Thanks loads for all your help,

Gita

Just click 'Dave's Garden' and you'll be back to your homepage with all your watched threads.

Ames, IA

You just need to hit the "Home" tab on the top of the DG page OR the "Dave's Garden" link at the bottom of the thread. Either of these will take you to the list of everything you are watching. Good luck!

ditto, ditto, ditto...Just click on "Home" and you'll be back to your personal page, with any updated thread watcher alerts ready for you ;o)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

BOY! You are all quick!

I just found out that if I click on that little arrow and choose "Welcome Home, Gitagal" it takes me right back to my watched list! Hitting just "home" is even quicker. Will do that next time!

Doing a happy dance here.....Thanks so much! Glad I could explain better!

Yes, 'Home' is the best way as it will now be updated. If you just use the arrow back button, it will take you to the page you want as it was before you checked all your watched threads so you would have to hit your refresh button to update it, an extra step. Just clicking the 'Home' button is the ticket!

Shortcut: you don't have to click on Home. Just click anywhere on the header graphic at the top of the page and it'll take you back home.

Oh, by the way, when I posted this above:

Getting picky here, but after you have posted, clicking on 'Click here to return to the home page.' is the fastest way. The banner is about 1 1/2 inches above it!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yeah, that 1 1/2" can be a real pain!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just thinking about that poor, overworked mouse...

Thanks, Dave for jumping in! I am honored that you were following my "stupid" question Post! I feel much more enlightened.

"Home" is where the Heart is--especially if it is Daves Garden! ^_^

Thanks everyone!

Gita--the "enlightened one"....:o)

This is the famous resident cat in the DuPont Winter Home and arboretum in Longwood Gardens, PA where a group of us just went from the Mid Atlantic. What a gorgeous place!!!!! I don't think he cares about being "enlightened". Hundreds of people coming and going and milling around--and he just sleeps in his favorite chair. Wish I could remember his name, because a man there told me that you can just Google this cat's name and add Longwood Gardens and he--like--has his own web page with hundreds of pictures of--HIM--of course!

Gita, I think it's name is Paulie. I Googled "Longwood Gardens cat" and came up with this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/steven2005/2460381158/

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That's the same one I came up with last night but Gita's cat has more white in the face. Seems Longwood has a cat program, "cats on their payroll as part of their Pest Management Program."

mgh,

Flicker IS the name!!!!!! Yeah! Thanks!
So, the man said to Google Flicker--Longwood Gardens. and the site would come up with 100's of pictures added by visitors.

Maybe there is/was another "resident cat"...:o)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Ah, so that's what I did, a search in within Flickr for "Longwood Gardens Cats".

Yes, according to the article I posted above and these shots, there are many resident cats.

Sue-

I think the one always laying on his back--looking lazy--is the one I photographed in the Du Pont House. Looks the same.....
