Summary of May 24th Swap
:-)
OK, I'm back home tonight, and I finally got in touch with Theresa. She's not going to be able to make it, boo hiss *sniffle* so it shouldn't be a problem fitting the plants into the car.
The phlox came yesterday, and they're still mostly dormant (just starting to pop up a few little shoots), so I think they'll be fine if they stay in bags. i'll get them sorted out tomorrow.
I think I picked up a bug at the clinic this week, so I'm nursing a headache and a stuffed head tonight... we'll see how far I get with the pots and cuttings tomorrow. I should be able to get to most of the stuff on my list, and a lot is already in pots.
Jill: Please take care of yourself -- your health is more important than all these plants. I know you are prone to those awful headaches.
Let us know what we owe you for the phlox when you are up to it. Though I should read the old posts and figure it out instead of heaping more requests on you!
I'll post totals on the Phlox thread tomorrow. :-) As long as I don't crash too hard to make it to the swap, I'll manage!
You are amazing!
I agree with your last statement Happy.
Ruby
Critter, I hope you're feeling better today.
Yep! Turned out to be a sinus headache last night, better than a migraine. :-) I'm still all stuffy-head today, but feeling pretty perky. I'm going to see if the sun won't bake it right out of me!
Hart, do you think you have enough chocolate mint dug up to go around? If so, I'll focus on other things. I just dug and bagged half a dozen good sized clumps of 'Kentucky Colonel' spearmint, which is the other one I think everybody must have. :-)
Ditto to what hart said
I think I just dug up one pot for Sally who I think is the only one who asked for any from me, but I just went out and pulled a bunch and potted them all up in one pot. I have used every single pot so I'm running out of places to put things. There should be plenty in there for anyone who wants some. I'll bring some zip lock bags for them to carry them home in.
If it will make it easier for you, all of these mints root very easily if you just stick them in the ground. At the swap two years ago, I just pulled a bunch and stuck them in a coffee can with a little water and let everyone help themselves.
I'm glad you're feeling better but sorry you're stopped up. The pollen has been driving my sinuses nuts lately too.
I just pulled and bagged the roots/runners on the KYC spearmint clumps (tied grocery bags around them)... they'll keep fine that way, and if they start looking droopy we'll just give them a squirt of water tomorrow. Mint is tough. I took some on the bus to my dad last week. :-)
Thanks for covering the Chocolate Peppermint for anybody who wants some! It's pretty matted together in my front bed, so it's become harder to yank up!
Hooray! Sally's DH is coming! *Now* it's a party. :-)
Today is Jim's birthday! He says his birthday present is that he can go play golf instead of coming along and "talking plants"... LOL, it's just as well, because I don't see any way we could fit another person into the car and still have any room for Bobbie & Terri's plants! Have I mentioned that it's going to be a tight fit? We're going to need help unpacking... Sally! What time did you say you & DH will be arriving? ;-)
Becky! Help, I'm running out of room for stuff because I've packed too many plants... Do you have a couple of plates or something that I could use to put bread & crackers on? I've got a little dish packed for the cream cheese & jam, and the pesto spread can just stay in the butter tubs... likewise if you want something cuter than clear plastic containers for the 2 fruit dips, you're on your own. I don't know if I'll manage to dig that big jar of sweet pickles out of the back of the garage fridge in the morning or not... but I think there will be enough food with or withotu them, LOL!
Oh absolutely - I have more than enough plates, bowls and platters :-)
Okay now Critter - You are trying to show me up. ha-ha Just kidding, but I hadn't even thought of bringing something a bit classier than the packing that things came in. ha-ha
Will see all of you later on today.
Ruby
Mercy, Ruby.....HOW early do YOU get up!?!?
Sally, my DH will be thrilled to discuss planes :-)
lynda
Great, Becky, in that case I'll stick with disposable plastic for transport and not worry about serving. (Plastic is fine for serving stuff, but it works better to have a plate than to be digging bread slices or crackers out of a bag, LOL... We're doing a "picnic" theme, right? SO the fine china stays in the cupboard.)
Hey, Becky! Do you have a wireless thingy? Should I bring my little laptop so we can look up stuff in PF etc, or would we never get around to using it, do you think? I don't want to haul it unnecessarily... it's not big, but you may have gathered that the car is getting full...
we 'might' arrive as early as 11 30 but I doubt it.-plants all dug, will pack van this AM
bringing a folding table and two chairs, cooler with some ice, and two gallons of unsweet tea and some non -cake dessert
lynda- COOL!
Planes! Jim might be sad he stayed home...
leaving shortly; it's a bit over 4 hours so won't arrive until 12:30-1:00.
Got plants and cookies
:)
Critter - I have a laptop as well - and wireless!
Good... leaving mine home, then... getting in the car now!!
See you soon!!!
:-D
Bec- your [phone number please? dmail if you prefer- won't be leavng here til 10 30 probably
.... and a great time was had by all!
You said it happy!!! Even though I began fading as the afternoon wore on, I have a great time. I was pleased that everyone was as nice as they were last year. I loved meeting the new people. They too proved to be of Dave's stock. So generous.
Anyways, thanks Bec and Chantell.
Ruby
