Summary of May 24th Swap

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

LOL - awwwww, the wonders of a "good haircut"

Crozet, VA

Gita, we do not have a Trader Joe's here. Never heard of it actually. I will find some goodies to bring though. Sounds as if there will once again be enough to feed an army. I can't wait.

Ruby

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Diane - yes JUST what Becky said...I can bring something extra if need be....please don't add any more stressors right now to your plate

Shenandoah Valley, VA

The other stuff isn't a problem but the chicken takes longer so I don't want to promise it and not have time to make it. You all are such sweetie pies.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

If you INSIST on making that incredible corn thingy again - I won't say no :-)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

"corny thing" - oh that's good esp. from YOU!!!! I find that hysterical

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Hehehehehehe

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hart, I loved the corn thingy last year. In fact, I thought about asking if you were making it again.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Okay, corn pudding it is. Miata, I posted the recipe after the swap last year. It's really easy to make. It was my grandmother's recipe and I'm sure she learned it from her mother and so on, except I'm sure she used cream straight from the cow and corn straight from the field instead of Carnation milk and canned corn. LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

You forgot I hadn't signed up for any food yet- I'll get with Shirley and bring lots of drinks and ice in coolers, will make real brewed iced tea !!
and another desserty item might be OK
also my card table and couple canvas chairs

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

You can take away those question marks... I'm bringing crackers with cream cheese & pepper jam, bread with pesto butter, and dip for your fruit platter. When I get back, I'll check to see if we have any sweet cucumber pickles left in the fridge, since those might go nicely with Hart's ham sandwiches.

I probably won't be online as frequently this week while I'm up in Pittsburgh, so my apologies if I don't respond quickly to a query. I'm going to be hopping on Friday! :-)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Highway safety to you Jill!! Hugs!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Chantell! It was an easy trip... I love Greyhound! I'm looking forward to seeing everybody Saturday. :-)

Crozet, VA

Well, it looks kind of like Critter and I are bringing the same things. Hopefully we will get different varieties. Pickles with all of this sounds wonderful Critter.

Yep, have to agree with everyone else. The corn pudding was wonderful Hart.

I am getting hungry.

Ruby

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Sally - you making Ice tea? Please, can you make it unsweet :-) If possible a dessert thingy? We have cake coming - but some cookies would be nice :-)

I'll have a large cooler full of ice, will pick up a case of water when I pick up platters on Sat morning (wings, fruit and veggies) - I found out from my neighbor that his "tent" is waaaaay larger than I thought (it's a gazebo!!) LOL - we will be shaded and comfy! I'll get the plates/utensils/napkins/glasses on Friday (color coordinated of course - I am thinking picnic theme this time LOL - yes, I am THAT "corny") and some paper tablecloths :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Not to worry, Ruby -- I've done cream cheese with chutney (I make green tomato & apple chutneys), and I've done cream cheese with pepper jam, and they're quite different!

Picnic theme? Who is bringing ants? ;-)

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Got the cookies covered :) Was working on that today ;)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Ohhh goodie - I am sooooo looking forward to Saturday - good times, good plants, good foods AND good friends - what more can a gardener-in-waiting want!!!!!!!!

I am hereby declaring that my major gardening/deck projects for 2008 are DONE! Just finished up the backyard and the troubles we have had there (drainage problems/drowning sod) - I finished putting down mulch last nite (note to self - NEVER AGAIN wear sandals when putting down BLACK mulch)- the deck is done - nothing else left but potting up some plants - now I can just enjoy!!!!!

Critter - I think I found the needed ants last nite :-) I'll be happy to provide them!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Bec- no problem, I am an Unsweet kind of gal myself LOL

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I have the necessary splenda and sugar for them that are sweeter than Sally & I :-)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I found a big ole toad....and some Liiiiizard jumped out last night about made me screech....shall I bring them with the Green Eggs and Ham?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bec---A while back we were talking about me bringing a cooler.

Do you still need it? If someone closer to you has one--that would be great--as I won't have all that much room in my Subaru. If you are still counting on it--I will bring it, of course.

Gita

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Gita - I think we are covered with coolers :-) Thanx - use your space to bring plants!!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Got two big uns....I'm bringing with...

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I am new to DG, and posted a reply to the "Is There Anyone Near Me? Knoxville, MD" thread yesterday. I live in Lucketts, VA which is not too far from Knoxville, Brunswick, and Frederick MD. Critterologist mentioned the swap on Saturday and how fun it will be. I've never been to a swap, and have not yet ventured into propogation, so I don't have any plants to share for Saturday - but I'd love to join in, see what a swap is all about, and meet the mid-atlantic crowd. Would it be all right to come without plants to share? I can definitely bring food!! If so, I may be catching a ride with critter if she has a seat available or could drive myself (would need address to get directions from mapquest). terri

Laurel, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm new to this too, but so far, everyone has said, "the more the merrier" and I believe there will be lots of plants to share whether or not you bring any yourself. I think you should come and join in and have fun and not worry about bringing plants. That's what I think.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes - what she said!! No need to bring plants - have ya seen the list of what is already coming!!! Food we won't say no to! I'll d-mail you addy :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Terri, I've got a seat for you! And your not bringing plants will make it easier to fit you into the car. ;-) Hopefully i'll be coming home with fewer plants on the return trip, so we'll have room for your goodies also (don't think that because you don't *b ring* plants you won't *leave* with plants LOL).

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Terri, that means you'll be riding with me too! I too hope to bring home way less plants than I take (my husband's hoping too).

Critter, if I don't drop off plants on Friday for pre-packing before you pick me up, should bring the table I want to take before-hand so you can put it on the bottom? I can drop it off Thursday evening, even if you're not back yet. I'll just put it on your deck.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

This is great! I'm so looking forward to it. I'll send critter a dmail with my info to coordinate the ride...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bec----NOT that you haven't thought of this, but..................Have you thought of having a couple big trash cans around at the Swap? Easier to clean up......

I have held so many huge parties. That is a necessity.

Looking forward to all this--Gita

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Very good point, Gita!! I need to come up with a solution for that - using our big trashcan is so not an option - it is nasty and stinky

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

aspenthomas - the important thing is to come and to let the rest of us know what you'd like from our lists...always happy to share. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/850553/

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

aspenthomas: I totally agree with Chantell!

Crozet, VA

Bec, I had to laugh when you mentioned the black mulch. I became acquainted with it last weekend while visiting my niece. As we were all packed and ready to leave we just had to do one more walk about the yard. Of course being the type person I am, quite tidy with most things, when ever I saw a stray weed I felt that I had to pull it. Some had quite long roots and that meant that my fingers had to wiggle way down in the black stuff. I learned that black mulch is not like the stuff that we use on our garden which with just a wipe is gone from your hands. The black stuff that she had required that I wash my hands three or four times before the black dye was gone. I can imagine getting it all over my feet. ha-ha

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Ruby

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

the important thing is for all the experienced swappers to UNLOAD THEIR TRASH!!!! give generously so the new ones OWE US BIGTIME feel welcome

Never shoulda let me learn that strikethrough thing.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

LOLOL Sally, you crack me up.

Laurel, MD(Zone 7a)

sally, you have to teach me how to do that strikethrough thing. Love your sense of humor!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Meant to ask that Sally...I love it...but you know with my sarcasm how couldn't I?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

The strike-through has been added this year, but you do it the same way as italics, bold, etc...

Without the space, type < s > before the text you want to strike through, and type < / s > at the end of the strike-through.

Other effects work the same way, using "b" for bold, "i" for italics, and "u" for underlining.
