Hi everyone ..
Am going to my best buds D in L to be Bridal shower on May 31st (at 10am) .. the shower will be centered around a 'gardening theme' and each of us has been asked to include a simple gardening tip along with our shower card.
Anyone have anything that they think would be fitting ??
I was going to use the "DO NOT spray RoundUp around blooming flowers especially if it's a windy day' .. that particular one comes from personal experience :-(
Just thought it wouldn't hurt to 'tap some of your knowledge' :-)
Thanks in advance ..

Bridal shower request ...........
My advice? "NEVER throw away the plant tags!"
that just about says it all.
OMIGOSH ..That is just THE best advice !!!!
Am adding it to my list :-)
Thanks everso

Wow, why does this seem so hard? Let me think...if my brain is working today....
How about the old rule for depth of planting for spring flowering bulbs...3-4x their height.
Watering is best done in the morning to avoid fungus.
Set your lawn mower blade to cut at 3". Taller grass allows less weed growth.
Always plant in odd numbers...3 or 5, and never in a straight row.
Amend, amend, amend...compost is your best friend!
Always wear gloves!
(Ok, now I'm having fun!! I guess my brain must have kicked in! lol)
Clean your gardening tools to prevent disease spread...and to ensure a long life. Spray paint the handles of small tools a bright color so they are easily found in the garden.
Plant to bring in the birds, they will take care of many unwanted pests in the garden.
To get plants to grow in the cracks between rocks (on walls, etc) plant them as seeds...then cover with a damp tissue to keep the seeds from blowing or washing away or getting eaten by critters.
The BEST gardening tip of all is to join DG...maybe you could get her a subscription as your gift to her?
Just thought of this...
How about a list of plants that root easily in water...
Coleus
Impatiens
Dianthus
Wandering Jew
Brugmansia
Sweet Potato Vine
There's others I just can't think of right now...my brain must have had enough and quit on me...and it's still early.
You could also share some info about winter sowing...in your zone I'm sure she'd be interested in that!
You're welcome, Marilynne. ☺
WHOA .. Heather .. now ya have me thinking I might be printing off all these wonderful hints and tips and putting them together in a wee booklet for .. well .. Heather (the bride to be) :-)
Awesome stuff :-)
Thanks so much

i have a great idea. neatly type on a business size car all of the suggestions above that you like then buy a nice large plant with lots of leaves on them. attach a business car with the saying on each leaf and then add a few packets of her favorite flower or vegetable seeds and stick them in the soil.
Herbie, that sounds great to me....I'm just wondering when you'll be sending mine along??? ^_^
OH my .. I LOVE that idea !!! Gonna try to make it so :-)
