oh boy, i won't mention where it is! OK, i am game for some cold pain to knock out the other pain!
Need Help ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Audrey, my doctor had me get tinactin (he thought it was a fungus...it's mostly nerves). I absolutely HAVE to use powder. I don't have a choice. If I didn't, in about 2 hours, mine would be bleeding, it gets so bad. Of course, I have to wash it at least twice a day right now, when the temps are, as MollyD says, like late March or early April. Later on, when the temps go to "hot", I will have to wash it about 4 times a day.
Molly, you just apply it as you would any other poultice. I used a washcloth folded in quarters, and laid it on for about 10 minutes. I don't think it worked on the rash. That doesn't seem any better. But the places where I had the rash on my foot are gone. So, it may not work for heat rash.
TF, we all know where it is...we get it there too. LOL

Granny, Dr. gave me Rx. ointment, instead of powder. It can turn into a fungus.
Try the cold buttermilk. It takes the heat out. Try not to let skin "rub" together. If the rash is on an open area, it's not fungus. I'm diabetic, and that makes me more susceptable. :-( Don't think I'm going to even open my door today!!!
Audrey
One of the rashes is on an open area (the one on my foot). The others are in the "fat areas". We know they are not a fungus as the Tinactin made it worse. I have been given ointments and other powders that were supposed to work on fungus problems, but none of them have worked.
Once, many years ago, I had a rash that started between two fingers, and when we finally got rid of it, it had spread to both hands and arms to my shoulders. The only thing that worked was an ointment was a steroid. It took 2 years of using it to get rid of the rash.

Granny, sounds like you have an allergy! Like poison oak. What have you been around in the garden since it started this time? It may not be the garden. Did this start about the time the "young'uns" started to come? Think about anything you've not been around all the time!
Audrey
you pooor thing! mine is better, the pool did the trick, and won't wear those tight short-jeans again!
tf
I get a heat rash across my tummy from sweat running down when I work hard in heat. I usually apply an antibiotic but if something less intense would work I'm all for that.

Audrey, this started 9 years ago when we moved from Detroit proper to the country. Our water in Detroit was filtered, clorinated, flouridated, and generally dead of all bacteria, and anything else that could be found in it. We use well water here, and at first I thought it was that. I am allergic to metal, and our water is full of iron, so that is part of it. Other than that, it is nerves. This flare up started about February, so it isn't anything due to the young'uns.
I could go the route of doctoring and doctoring for everything but am not willing to do so. I am using baking soda baths, and Gold Bond powder which is counteracting it. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against doctors in general, just not willing to go to any doctor that I don't HAVE to go to. I do have several allergies, but this is not one of them.
GG
BTW, I did have an allergy last year. I inadvertently bought and used the new formula VO5 creamy shampoo. I developed an allergic conjunctivitis that lasted until my opthmalogist suggested that maybe it was a new allergy. And it was. Alberto-Culver made me an offer I could not refuse because of it, but now I have to use baby shampoo to keep from getting it back.
Gosh! You sure have a lot to cope with, don't you? Have you ever tried epsom saltz in the bath? About a cup to the tub. Have you ever tried Aveeno? Just suggestions!
Audrey
Audrey, I don't get in the bathtub. I shower. After my shower, I put baking soda and water in the sink basin and use a washcloth to apply to the affected areas. Once I get down I have too hard a time getting back up. Most of these problems are ones that come with old age.
As far as having problems, life is like that. I am enjoying mine and hope to keep on for at least another 40 or 50 years. After all, I want to be the oldest biddie in the world. LOL

I'm with you, Granny! I can't get in and out either! I think I'm older than you are! I meant no insult about your problems, I was comiserating with you. I have a lot of problems, too. High bp, high chlorestoral, diabetes, allergies, congestive heart failure. But I take after MY granny, she lived to be almost 90! I think you and I must be kin! We're tough old birds!
Audrey
Patch, I see you may build a pond. I just finished one a month ago. I used old land scape timbers,Yes I know they can't be good for a few things. I measured and got a liner from Lowe's then built the out side form smaller than the liner.
No digging either. I went 3 or 4 timbers high. I added a little sand then I laid green house shade cloth I had around here to put under the liner and then laid the liner down and up and over the timbers. YOU CAN USE ANY THING YOU MAY HAVE LAYING AROUND LIKE OLD POOL LINER, heavy plastic, I just used these to help protect my liner.
No back water can run into the pond. I bought a filter from Lowe's also. I had enough liner to go over the top of the timbers. So I bought 2x 8 buy how ever long you need and that was my topper for the liner on the timbers. This also makes a good seat to watch the fish.(I have perch & brim) A friend wants to give me gold fish!
On the top I have rope lights around it and at night it looks good.
On the ground around the bottom tier is two timber high and I have planted flowers on one end. They seem to be doing good. The creosote doesn't bother them. Certain areas around it I have roses and other flowers growing to.
My latest Project was a old pirogue boat drilled holes in it filled it with dirt and planted flowers in it looks pretty good flowers are just starting to grow.
I c an send photo's if you would like. In all I may have 150.00 in it. Timbers were free.
Hi joy_bird, do send pictures! I am trying to build a new pond and your idea sounds perfect.
Thanks JoyBird: ) Yes, please send pics our way your pond sounds lovely. My sis has an old pool liner she's going to give me. She said it has a couple of holes, but I figured I'd use a patch kit to fix 'em. I can't do the timber thing as the pond is for the ducks and they need an easy way in. It's not very deep, about three to four feet, but it's decently wide; around ten or twelve foot radius. I was wanting to add some lilleys and fish, but I'm not sure what will work with the ducks. I'm building up the bank on the low side with all the dirt from the digging, as the pond sits on an incline. Not sure what to use for the duck house yet either. Was going to make a doghouse like structure with removable top, but now wondering if small shack would be more used? I'm definately trying to be cost efficient so any suggestions appreciated!
Patch I think the ducks will eat the fish and the lilys!!
MollyD
i KNOW they will. but build it anyway and fence it in. then buy them a wading pool...
Why would I need a wading pool if I'm digging a pond?
she means build the pond to grow your lilies and other plants and fish. Give the wading pool to the ducks LOL
MollyD
LOL....oh yeah...I can just see you doing that patch....after putting so much work into your pond...LOL I have the 3 ducks that REFUSE to go into our big pond...or use their very nice duck/ goose house. They keep coming back up to the house and wallering around in rain puddles...even if that puddle is in the middle of the road! I had big hopes of this changing when we just got 5 goslings (I think maybe 4 mo old, but I'm not sure) and we carried the ducks, again, back down to their house last night.....now all 8 of them are up here at the house! The goslings just followed the ducks right up here....all in a line....Pekin, Ruin, Ruin, the the 5 gray toulouse / buff goslings.
I can't wait for it to dry up some and they either have to venture into the pond or do without....I am not getting them a pool....can you out stubborn a duck or a goose? My DH tells everyone that he has NEVER seen anyone out stubborn a calf before...and then he met me! : )
The galding and sore places problem....my DS and I get galded and chafed too, and at night before bed I clean the area and heavily apply petroleum jelly. After on, it feels so much better and doesn't burn anymore and the next morning, if it's not completely gone...its a lot better. I don't know if anyone has tried this, but it sure works for me so I thought I would share!
LOL, you're right LadyBugs, no way I'm building a pond that big for a few fish and some lilly pads! If I can't keep the ducks and pads and fish together, than it's just the ducks for me! If I want a nicer pond with fish and all I'll put the expense into that and buy the filter, liner, rocks, plants, ect. I did read somewhere though that fish and ducks are good together because the fish help keep the pond clean by eating the feces from the ducks. That's one reason I made the pond three to four feet deep, so that it's below ground level and won't freeze all the way.
LOL Someone was an optomist! I can see a lot of happy ducks diving for fish in your pond! LOL
MollyD
patch, just have a standing order at the pet store for fish.... duck food!
ladybug, i can out stubborn a MULE!
hey tf....how do you that? I don't know much about them, but they are big around here.
I used to take forever to 'trick' calves into doing exactly what I wanted and what they were set not to do. DH left a group of 5 heifer calves stay on bottles for about 4 weeks....by the time I got them and tried to break them to a bucket, they were so big they could butt the bucket, slamming me a good one with it in my legs and belly and bending my fingers back....so then I went right to a trough. They didn't want anything to do with that either and ended up dumping all the milk onto the floor. So then I came up with a plan. I broke them one by one and pretty quickly....I used the nipple from the bottle, let them suck on it for a minute with their head over the trough, then oops....dropped the nipple into the milk and they would chase it. Sometimes it took several 'oops, I dropped it's' but they caught on that that was were there milk was. All broke to the trough.....my DH still talks about this, because he had given up and couldn't get them to drink.
I could also get the really sick ones that he couldn't get to drink to drink too. I tell him I am not stubborn......just extremely determined! : )
yes, that is it, determined!
That was a good strategy Lady Bugs!
We've toyed with the idea of buying a miniature cow. If we do I may be coming to you for advice on them! I've never had a cow in my life!!! Rarely been anywhere near them.
Anyone have good links on these mini-cows to share?
MollyD
tf, Wal-Mart has cheap feeder fish right? LOL!
hey Molly, I would be happy to answer any cow questions I can for you. Don't know much about the miniature ones, but I would imagine they can't be that much different.
ladybug it's purely in the planning stages (for me! LOL) Paul hasn't given me the heads up yet. I was thinking one steer to be butchered this fall. We're trying to set ourselves up for very few trips to the supermarket this fall. We canning and freezing veggies. Will be butchering chickens. We're buying a sheep to butcher this fall from a friend. If we can't do the steer thing we'll end up buying a half a cow from another friend who raises them. Next year we expect to add goat meat to our stash. I'm also looking around to see if we can buy half a pig.
Next year I may buy a few turkeys. Also we're hoping the geese and ducks will provide us with offspring to eat. At least they should give us eggs!
MollyD
i think MistyMeadows also has miniature cows.... i want some too...
tf where is Misty Meadows?
MollyD
Can you get milk from a miniature cow, the same way you would a jersey or bigger cow, but only getting less milk?
There is a miniature Jersey, which is a dairy cow. A lot of what they call "low line" cattle are beef.

ladybug I was checking them out and they don't look all that much smaller than a regular cow! Haven't found a web page with prices yet but I suspect they're expensive.
I'm getting very tempted to buy a calf now and raise it through the summer for meat this fall.
MollyD
