BArk, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark...

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

We suffer from barking dogs too. Our next door neighbor now has
three and just turns them out in the yard to bark their heads off.
She works, her husband works, and her two children are in school
or at their part-time jobs. I've talked to them several times, including
pointed comments that turning their dogs out at 6:30 a.m. on
weekend mornings was very annoying to us.They were very
sweet, very apologetic—and they still do it! They don't walk
the dogs, they don't play with them, they don't even seem
to groom them. They just have them. And these are well
educated professional people.

The neighbor did say she "never notices the barking". I had
to bite my tongue in the interest of maintaining good neighborly
relations.

LOL me and my next door neighbor, the one who lost the 2 dogs because of the pits, we gave up on maintaining good neighborly relations. We currently don't have any barkers, and we seem to kick those who don't take care of their dogs properly off the street LOL I haven't even lived there a year yet and so far we've kicked 3 people off of the street LOL!

(Zone 7a)

Crissy, that's aweful about the aweful people!!! I don't get it but good for you for helping your neighborhood. LOL

Dogs are the #1 reason people have problems with their neighbors. Those kids and the human ones. LOL

June, that's kind of sad that your neighbor doesn't get the hint. I guess educated doesn't always mean smart, huh?

Roy? Same comment. What are people "thinking"? "Owner" = "responsibility".

Santa Fe, NM

Some people don't get it. The neighbor I told about still owns the house, just rents it out, now. The neighbors on both sides live in fear that she will decide to move back in! I think now that I would be more unpleasant than I was before. I'm older and wiser! l.o.l.

(Zone 7a)

As I get older, I've noticed I'm less tolerant of noise. I wonder what that means?

That would be aweful if they moved back!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I live in the first house on the block, my next door neighbor is the 2nd house on the block, with that crappy trailer directly across the street from them. I'm one of those nosy women who state their mind, apparently my 25 year old neighbor is already the same way LOL. My husband was shocked at me, in California the people there are generally not as nice, but no one butts into anyone else's business either. Dave thought that the people in Arkansas were a lot nicer and just as tolerant. Not so. The people here are a lot nicer, but not near as tolerant. Now I can let my true self be known LOL!

Oh heck, I've slowed down, I've noticed, and I am becoming less tolerant to noise also. When we go out I remember a day I was standing right next to the speaker, now I can barely stay inside the club! I don't last as long as I used to either. But, on the other hand, I'm one of those nuts who blares the bass in their car, the license plate vibrates and I can't see out of the rear view mirror for it's vibrating so much! But I listen to all different kinds of music, pretty much everything except classical, opera, and hard core rap.

LOL Roy, is there a curfue in Santa Fe? Do you live in the city limits?

Santa Fe, NM

Yeah, right in the city. No curfew for adults. Kids, I'm not so sure. No noise regulations. We have restrictions on water use because of droughts, but pretty much anything else is o.k. Wild West and all that. But, it is changing. Sometimes for better and sometimes not.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

No curfew here in Albuquerque, NM either, Roybird. Unfortunately
things have become worse since we moved here seven years ago.
Gang crime and drugs lead to a lot of violence. Hmmm, maybe I
need a barking dog of my own! ;-)

Santa Fe, NM

That really is why a lot of people want barking dogs. It's just that it doesn't matter if the dog barks all the time! Mostly dogs like to bark at other dogs. It makes sense. We got an alarm system. So far, so good!

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

We're going for an alarm system too. I think they even
have one with a barking dog sound!

(Zone 7a)

Alarms here, too.

It's funny this huge difference a few miles can make. I recently changed locations with my job. Same company. I work retail security and I noticed right away the different clientelle between the two places. The one where I am now has a distinct...how to put it nicely...underwolrd element?

Santa Fe, NM

Our neighborhood is going through transitions and becoming more urban as the city grows. This year we actually had fewer burglaries than in the past 2 years! I think we've had to become more security conscious and community oriented. It also helps that there are more businesses in the area that attract people so there is more street activity. I think that reduces opportunity for break -ins. Also, it is harder to find a parking spot!

kwanjin- have you lived in NC before? by stating you been in my neck of the woods??

I plan to be moving in less than 12months, counting down, can't wait. My neighbors just don't like anything we do in our yard. I guess it's because it interuts their view of the neighborhood thru my yard. Whatever... lol

(Zone 7a)

No, Rebecca. We just visited there for a week in 2002. Hubby was thinking of relocatong for work.
