Don't feel bad, Patchouli, I do the same thing and have to go back and correct it.

Narraganset lost her chicks last night
i used to be such a perectionist, but since i severed my ligament in my hand, i just make do. any time spent correcting is time i cna't do something else. and now i am tyuing so slow it isn't funny.
milkign the goat has beeen god for hand strenght but is irratinintg the nerve in my neck and shoulder.s time to see doc...
i used to hang clothes fromt he dryer with one hand, and it took 30 minutes to change sheets on a bed.
i';ve come a long way, baby!
Heck, it still takes 30 minutes for me to change the bed. Guess I haven't come all that long a way...LOL. My hands work just fine except for the arthritis in them. I used to crochet quite a bit, but can't do that anymore. I can still sew, so now I do that.
Now, if I could just walk straight up again, I will be happy. My back and hip are getting better, but may have a long way to go there.
I am going to have to find new clothes line cause I want to hang sheets outside in the sun. They smell soooooo good that way. But, there again, I will have to straighten up to hang them.

We use the clothes line outside and in the winter we have a clothes rack and a bar my DH installed so the woodstove is our dryer! I hang the clothes on hangers in the winter so when they're dry I just put in the closet-no folding!! Has anyone noticed that the clothes pins today just aren't the same quality as they used to be?!
i was gonna assk abou thtat? they bust all the time, and som eleave rust spots!!! anyone have a good source for better clothespins?
hmm, we have a woodstove downstairs, gonna put one upstairs for next winter. give me more info on your indoor clothes dryer...
GG, my DH is going to put a plank between two blocks for the kids to be able to reach their own clohtes off the line. would that help you?
They use to sell peg type clothespins that were all wood. Those lasted forever but now you don't see them for sale anywhere. Maybe google them?
MollyD
Everything is kept far enough from the stove so if anything falls or if the rack was knocked over, it won't land on the stove and start a fire.
Here's a pic of my outside clothesline. We had one that was two telephone poles(cut down!) spaced about 20' apart with a 2x6 at the top. We had 4 lines running. To keep the line low enough to hang but lift it higher(for sheets, ect), we cut small maples and use the crook the hold up the line. The animals have now taken over that space so my DH made this one off the deck. Couldn't use it at first due to my neck from the car accident but the muscles are stronger now so I can pull the line in or out. I use a folgers can screwed to the pole for the pins!
I've never used the pegs type but the older pins used to be alot longer and the spring seemed to be better. Does anyone know it the pegs work better?
I thought they were great. Nothing to wear out and really hard to snap a leg off.
Gosh I'm getting old!
MollyD
Look for peg type clothespins at garage sales. You may run across them there. I have about 200 of them right now, and NO, I am not letting them go.
TF, it isn't the shortness to hang clothes up, it is straightening up altogether. When I work on it and with the IB2s, I can usually straigten up in the morning. The doctor told me to "take it easy" for a few days until the shot he gave me starting working. So far, so good as far as my spine goes. Now if I can get my hip to cooperate, we will be in good shape.
But, DH washes the clothes on Wed. when I go to seniors prize bingo. And he uses the dryer. It is electric and in the garage. (we live in a mobil) There was no room in the house to put one. I much prefer to hang them out, but almost have to fight him to get to do so. (he is so sweet...doesn't let me do anything) (darn it!!)

Have y'all tried e-bay for clothes pins?

or search for clothes pins there.
Paul
Yep, you can find them on eBay, but when you consider the price, it might be better to have someone who is handy with wood make them for you. They are now considered to be "vintage" or "antique" items and go for big bucks.
I could sell mine for about $5.00 EACH if I wanted to. But, since I use them, they are not on the market.
GG
Lol! With the electric bills going up so much, anyone with a dryer would probably be ahead after buying them!!(I wouldn't let them go either granny!!)
Can you believe that!-vintage pins!!
I appreciate the new single-use clothes pins I bought at a big-box store recently. One use and they fall apart leaving me with small pieces of wire and kindling. Always useful LOL!
I don't think I could use them, Cat. I am not a person who believes in totally recycling everything, but one use clothespins? Isn't the purpose of hanging out clothes to be saving money by not using power to run a dryer plus getting great smelling clothes? I would think single use clothespins would defeat that purpose.
Sandy, I just checked eBay, and they have a package of 20 wooden clothespins (peg style) for 99 cents with $3.95 shipping. It is also at $1.49 for a "buy it now" option. They were made in China. They also have a pack of 80 for $7.99 with $5.60 shipping or $9.99 "buy it now". I don't know how good these are, but the last ones I bought at the store (about 8 years ago) were okay if a little bit rough. I am still using the one I bought then.
You might want to check them out there.

Sorry granny--I was being sarcastic. I can't believe how shoddy the most recent clothes pins I bought are. They are literally "single use" and I bought them at Target--which usually has a bit better quality than most big box stores. Walmart sells plastic ones--more expensive and I am not sure they are any better. So many things these days seem very cheap, but are ultimately useless.
I bought some Martha Stewart ones that have lasted three years. I needed more and bought some at Wal Mart. You are right, they fall apart!
Okay, Cat. Now, let's see. I bought some of mine in 1968, am still using them, so they are 40 years old. Some of them have split but like everything else, they do get worn out. (just like us)
Just thought of something, you might be able to get some at auctions too. I haven't been looking for them there as I don't need them. Maybe I should buy some and sell them on eBay, too. I do sell there, but don't have anything up right now. Will probably be selling stuff after all the critters get grown enough so that I can do other stuff.
GG
Thanks, Granny! I'm heading over to eBay before my DD wants the computer!
I have tried the plastic walmart pins and I think they are worse that the 2 piece wooden ones, and I didn't think that was possible! When the wind gets to blowing, my clothes shift and bunch up...or the pins themselves 'shift', splitting them apart in two, leaving the spring behind on the line and my clothes on the ground!
GG....they just don't make things like they used to, do they? I mean, if it actually lasted, we wouldn't have to go and keep buying them, would we?
Happy shopping saanansandy.......hope you find good ones! : )
ladybugsabound2, that is very true. That's why I'm keeping mine.

Hi Granny -
Guess I'm looking in a different part of E-Bay. I'm seeing prices at 0.99 for 30, 5.49/30 (several), 5.40/70. Of course there are some "vintage" doll clothes pins for 2.98 each. Just need to look around.
Paul
Hi, PBrannon, look under "wooden clothespins" in the eBay search engine. That's what I put in and came up with what I found.
GG
I don't blame you a bit granny, I would too! After hearing what you had to say about yours though, I know what to look for at yard sales and auctions......maybe someone out there won't realize they are 'vintage!' : )
Another option is a small, local lumber yard. Not the big box stores, but a family run one. I think that was where I bought the last ones I got.
GG
did you know there is a clotheline thtread in the sustainmable alternatives forum?
Nope, sure didn't. Will have to look it up.
