I finished the 18 or 19 trips from the basement to the back steps. I'm weary but now the sun is out so there's no excuse not to get some purchased plants in the ground.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 20
Still overcast here - 63. Hope to get some stuff done later. Nice day for outside work.
Yes, it was ideal for the seedling trek. Now the sun is playing games but it should be out in full force within the hour. We have 58 now and a very light breeze.
more sun - - - - more perennials
- Back later, I've got some planting to do... ☺
YEAAAAHH for the sun
Wow - 28 inches!! Why so deep?
Weez - wonderful shot of you and your happy Dexter! Heartwarming after such a tough shock!
So glad Grant is coming home, Robin!
Booj - those are beautiful shots of your grounds!
that's some good mulch Wc... hope you saved some
Trees sprayed against the winter moth with a Bt substance. Just in the front part of the garden but I only noticed a couple last fall so it must help. No damage to birds.
Hi everyone! Spent the day packing up college student and driving back from Binghamton. I'm tired! We ran into some showers on the way out but then things were fantastic. The trip home was good, no rain, decent traffic and both sons at home. We even saw a rainbow high in the sky this evening. No pictures because I was driving and DH didn't see it until the last minute.
Temps still in the low 60s. - Lynn
Hi Lynn. Good to hear all are home and accounted for! How was the laundry pile??!
- He's got the only machine in Suffolk County that can go down that far Victor, (he's also an engineer). I guess it's so that you could plant a tree the next day right on the same spot if you wanted to. The decomposition of the root is an exothermic reaction and also vents gases, so the deeper the better is the assumption.
- Onewish they took it all away, they even asked me if I wanted the 26" dia trunk of the oak for a table and I said "NO!" ... "Make it disappear completely!" - which they did, much to my delight!
- Planted 10 dahlias and re-planted my JM afterwards.
Temp 61.3°, Wind N 0.3 mph ☺
Wow - I would have taken the table! The decomposition of the root sounds eerily similar to drinking beer...
I was temped to - but it would have been an extremely heavy table! - you're right about the beer! lol! ☺
Hi Victor -
The laundry is unimaginable! None of us felt like emptying the vehicles tonight so I have a reprieve until tomorrow. Loads and loads and loads......
This kid is racking up his "A"s so I cut him some slack when it comes to laundry and housekeeping. I think I met the love interest today, as well. Absolutely gorgeous!
Great to hear - on the grades and the girlfriend!
It is wonderful to watch the boys grow into young men. I would imagine it's the same with girls, but I have boys!
The boys like to watch the girls grow!
I have noticed this! It's always interesting.....
Drizzly and 51 degrees. Just back from visiting my 85 year old mother in law in Maine. In just the past 3 years she has put in 6 brand new perennial borders and a gigantic vegetable patch. I pretended to go to up to "help" her get her gardens going...but in fact, I can barely keep up with her! The best thing: she loaded me up with seedlings and cuttings!!!
Thanks, daisygirl. That's music to my ears.
57, overcast with rain due soon (thankfully).
Raining here - 54.
85 and starting gardens? Something for all of us to aime for.
Wow, amazing, Daisy!
Didn't you know we grow em tough here? Hee hee he
You can say that again of the three Maine Women I know two are capable of surviving anything and one has written a book ,the other is my cousin, tough but gentle ladies all.
I think the winters slow the aging process!
It's pouring here right now. 57 degrees.
Praying for no rain tomorrow... going to Longwood Gardens to meet some peeps from the Midatlantic forum.
Wow--I hope I'm still gardening next year--85--good genes! My Mom, at 93, doesn't garden, but she picks up sticks in the yard, pulls dandelions, & sweeps the drive---I find that amazing. Bought a new used car yesterday--have to go to NH on the 23rd & I didn't trust my 150,000 miler anymore--not after a belt broke & left me with the 2 dogs in the pouring rain! It is cloudy & showery today, & my gardens love it--am now heading off to WFF for their Tomatomania--it has been cold & rainy all 3 years they have been doing this, but I love the exotic varieties they grow!
Oh, my 85 year old MIL is a "young'un" in her family. And they do grow 'em strong up in Maine. Her mother lived on the family homestead...alone...until she was just over 100. And she gardened all the way. In fact, I brought home some old lily of the valley corms from her original garden to put in our bed here. I like the idea that my son can enjoy flowers first planted by his great-grandmother! Now THAT's "roots."

Wow - great genes, Daisy!
it's cold 54* and gray and I am in the house w/ the heat on.
Bluestone order due in a few hours, then I'll plant something.
Amazing to still have heat going here too. It's supposed to be May 16th! Still have the pellet stove going.
I just had to get the damp out of the house.
My SIL turns the heat off so with night temps in 40's I have to wait until the afternoon to open the house to let it warm up.
Not doing that today too cool outside.
Poor container plants are suffering.
I keep promising myself to never put the annuals out until Mem.Day. butfound a bargin April28 weekend and kept plants in the livingroom until two weeks ago.
Just added up what I spent on bulbs and plants since last July over one G. HOLYkrap.
I am so glad that both the little ones are home from their respective hospitals and are doing OK. It's never a good day when our innocent ones are in such a place!
This little guy bumped into the sun porch windows and spent about 25 minutes on the round, getting his bearings back. I'm just thankful for two things:
(1) that I noticed him and grabbed the camera
(2) that the neighborhood cats didn't notice him!!
