Too funny about the pick axe and the chisels for planting pansies !

One of my earliest childhood memories was seeing my mom ruthlessly attacking a slab of meat with the edge of a plate. (Turns out it was for making Swiss Steak...) She looked like a mad woman in a psychotic frenzy, and there was steak "blood" all over the place.

It was then that I realized what my dad meant when he would say, "Your mother, God love her, has the touch of a blacksmith at times" !!!

God help you if you ever had a pimple on your face...she'd remove 1/2 the flesh and muscle tissue in the process.

Funny, Mike. How far would the zit squirt?!!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

you don't wanna know...

Fortunately, she only did it to me once...and that was enough.

My poor sisters...they HATED coming to the breakfast table when they were in "full bloom" because it was inevitable what awaited them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Don't do that to your children. It leaves scars on their beautiful faces.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sue, dinner at an ice cream joint would have been fine with me too!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Oh, it was fine! Cheeseburger, coleslaw, fries - and a soft serve dipped in butterscotch. Couldn't ask for better!

Funny coincidence was, even at 3:00 p.m., one of my aunt's & uncle, 3 of their kids and spouses, and 4 grandkids were there also! Now, this is a small place with only about a dozen 2 to 4 seat tables. I think we filled it up!

Talk about your 'family' restaurant!

~ LOL ~

Well, I didn't get flowers, not even a card... BUT, DS wished me a happy Mother's Day, made me coffee, did two loads of laundry (including folding!), did ALL the dishes, cleaned his room and most of his messes in other rooms, didn't talk back, mowed the lawn...

I think that was pretty good. : )

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You got my card! Consider it from him too.^_^

Sounds like everyone had a great mother's day. Harper - I think those are the best presents any mother could get. I didn't get any cards either - I just wanted to be "left alone" to work on planting containers. With a "terible two's, two year old" under foot most of the time, a day like that is heavenly. My two daughters and of course Colin showed up at my door with a surprise barbeque dinner. It was nice not to have to prepare a meal after a day of mixing potting mix and planting containers. I did help with the clean-up - it was either that or chase Colin and I let his mother do that!! Eleanor

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Sounds wonderful Eleanor!

Central, ME(Zone 5a)

I had a great day that began with the message from Victor. Thanks again. I love that kind of stuff.
I have the same viewpoint as Eleanor, it was great to be able to spend the entire day in the garden. NO one to look after but my plants! Heaven. I asked for no cards, etc., just time to myself. Great gift.
I have 2 wonderful daughters, one of which sent me a bouquet of stargazer lilies from the Midwest. She is an archaeologist , and I have to tell you it is not all Indiana Jones. ;)
But now, I must find the lilies as they are the most fragrant flowers I have ever had.
My other daughter is in her last year of college, and of course, her money is my money, so no way do I want anything but a phone call. LOL Conversations are free and I am blessed to have them.
Wonderful day. Thanks for reminding us of what is important in life. Cyndie

Victor, Thanks for the buckets of bouquets! DH took me off on a mad nursery crawl on Sunday. We did some damage. Had a fine and fancy meal at a great hot dog stand between two great nurseries in Whately Ma. on RT 5 & 10. All was right with My Mother's Day. Added another Jmaple that I now see you have too. Victor, I think that I should just send you a check and tell you to go shopping for me. I spend hours reading about plants and then see that it is one that is already in your garden. I did find some interesting other plants on our crawl. I will post the list in the thread, What have you bought so far ?? Part 6 at some point. Here are a few. Patti
