What have you bought so far ?? Part 6

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

(Giggle) when Palmbob first said he was planning to write an article about painting succulents, I thought he meant putting paint on cactus plants! Which is how I first read your statement above, that you had to paint the flowers with organic fertilizer or something, but you probably mean painting pictures OF flowers. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/871/
I can be really dumb, or I've read too much Alice in Wonderland, or I ate the wrong side of the cake.

Ah! Let us all eat cake!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I realized it might read that way but am too tired to change it.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Not a problem Jo Ann. I just went and finished off the last piece!! Yummy!

^_^

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Candyce, just make sure you eat the right part of the cake! It's very important.

flowerjen - call Park's and tell them the problem and why their substitute won't work for you. I bet they'll give you a credit and a coupon.

Dunkirk, NY(Zone 6a)

I took advantage of the closeout sale from Touch of Nature. I'm really impressed with the quality, so they will get my business again. I got 5 Sarah Bernhardt peonies ($8.75) which each have 3-5 healthy eyes, as promised. I also got 200 (yes, 200!) mixed glads. At $5 per hundred, how could I resist? They're small but very healthy looking. Shipping was reasonable and Fedex sent regular updates. www.touchofnature.com I don't know why I didn't get any hostas!

Dunkirk, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd be really miffed about a substitution like that too! I guess it never occurred to them that people select a specific color for a reason...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pirl- believe me I called them first thing, they did give me a refund(they better have).

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just like most "markets" online nurseries who provide the best service and product will survive.
Companies who don't pay attention to that area of their business will not last long, even companies who have been in business for eyons .
Mail order is THE big deal now, there are too many gardeners who want unusual varieties not found locally and shop that way.
I'm glad I resolved my tiff with B&D Lilies. I like their product and plan to order again.
No nursery can fix their problems unless we speak up.
Glad you did Flowerjen

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good, Jen. They never should have disappointed you in the first place. There are people who will say we should all order early but sometimes we spot a plant we hadn't seen before or a plant in a different color and that's exactly what we want. It's up to the company to do the right thing for the customer.

In the future you might want to write, in big letters, NO SUBSTITUTIONS, on your order.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I believe it's 2 CU. FT.

But it was outside @ Lowe's in the fenced in part of the garden center.

Ok...the one I buy, is below...I hope this link works...that website took me forever to find it...lol.
http://www.premierhort.com/eProMix/Horticulture/Products/GrowingMediumTM/Options/fBiologicalAdditives.htm

This bale is 3.8cu and costs, depending on where one goes, between $30-38 each. For all that I have used, it's a god(dess) send. I have purchased 6 bales so far...but with all that I have potted up, I would have spent more than that on the smaller bags.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

The one I have purchased is the BX, with the Mycorise inside. Few more steps on the website to get to it...but it's there. I didn't realize that they sold ProMix in smaller bags. For smaller projects indoors, especially during the winter, that is ideal. Those cubes that I buy, especially if the cubes are wet, weigh a ton.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok maybe the lowes in my area doesn't carry them.... thanks for the link btw.... i put in my zipcode and here is everything within 30 miles of me... no wonder I haven't seen it around here... at least I know I am not completely nuts for never seeing it

Thomaston, CT

just returned from NH & had to visit our friend's Edgewater Farm in Plainfield NH. They just get better every year--had to come home with fuchsia Moonglow, penstemon Elfin Pink, cosmos Bright Lights(which I couldn't find anywhere in CT) and some snazzy salvia--the annual kind that I love. Here's a pic of salvia & penstemon & oh, yes, iris Rock Star--couldn't resist it!

Rats! Obviously the iris--can't find the salvia or penstemon--here's the fuchsia.

And finally--here's a rhody I bought last year--Fantastica--I believe from Carlson's & apricot Jacob's ladder & Japanese painted fern.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

just went to Home DPOT for a few things and stopped at the garden center.
I was dissapointed in the selection and the care of plants, shows ya what mass retailing does for gardening.
All the six paks of bedding plants; that would be dwarf snaps in full bloom and dried out to the point of falling out of the pak.
Mossrose the same and everything wilted
petunias
all the interesting plants were in baskets. don't want to spend $20.00 for verbina.
I am soaking the dwarf snaps and mossrose.
That experience makes shopping online look even better.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Two wheel barrels of rock and old 4 x 4 that the rototiller has some trouble with - did not finish until noon and sun was tough for good pic. There is a red leafed birch, three azeala's and plum grass now have the tree peonies and autumn moon jm. Will try for a better shot in the morning.

Looking good, Bill!

Yup Promix is 50 miles from me. I got a peony at Home Depot, or did I already say that?

Carrie

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Isn't a shame what the large places do to the plants, HD and Lowes this weekend had more plants than they would sell in 3 years and as I walked around (course I was there only to purchase pavers, which I ended up not getting, but that is another story...LOL) 85% of the plants where in such stress from no water. Such a simple thing to water, I know it takes time, but how can they just do that to the plants.... Glad I'm not a plant at these places..

Give me the mom and pop place to purhase anything day.
