Is that philodendron Brazil? That's a beauty!

(Zone 1)

I have been following this thread and lurking. Looks like everyone has gotten great plants/cuttings in this swap! Congratulations to everyone!

I love that Epiphyllum ... gorgeous bloom.

and, Horsewoman ... that does look like Philo Brasil: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/83313/ you've got there!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Everyone's cuttings look great! So much fun..

My box o' cuttings is all packed up and ready to be shipped tomorrow!

Gabi

Silex, MO(Zone 5b)

It is Philo Brasil. ^_^ And I looked up that carnosa before I sent it and thought it looked like the krinkle eight, horsewoman. The one bloom that I saw that it had on it when I bought it looked like the blooms in the plant files too. I'm glad you like everything! ^_^

I also received some wonderful cuttings yesterday from imadigger. She sent me H. carnosa Rubra, H. wayetti, H. Bilobata and H. pubicalyx 'Pink Silver'. They're all so healthy looking- thanks imadigger!!! ^_^

I get so confused! I thought I read somewhere that ds-70 and tsangii were the same, and that H. bilobata is a completely different plant? I know I have the ds-70 and I think I have one labeled bilobata and they look entirely different. I am going to get them and put them side by side again and investigate. I really would like to have them properly labeled.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I have DS-70 (tsangi) and bilobata. They are not the same. Leaves on bilobata are a lighter green and don't have the darker red edge that DS-70 has.. I also have brevialata (or incurvula) . Then there is burtoniae, which I think is DS-70. I received them all in a trade a few years back. One of these days maybe someone can figure it out. It may be just different clones of the same hoya, or mine are mis-labeled.

Silex, MO(Zone 5b)

Oh shoot- that was my mistake then lol. I thought they were the same and Bilobata was just a name that EA used- I have a Bilobata that I bought from HD or somewhere labeled that. I'll change it. ^_^

*Okay, I just did a little research and I think maybe the Bilobata that I bought from HD is tsangii- the leaves on the Bilobata you sent me are lighter green but my poor plant was neglected a bit and I just figured that yours was healthier lol. Thanks again for the cuttings! ^_^

I remembered something about incurvula being confused with another hoya. It's H. brevialata and H. incurvula that apparently look sorta similar in foliage. Found this in PF, where Carol shows the difference in the leaf of both: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/82508/

I received a package of beautiful cuttings from Sharon (sharonbanister) today. They are soaking in ST water and I will try to get a picture by tomorrow. There is a large H. longifolia (which I have wanted but never gotten!), H. bella sulawesii, H. pallida, H. cummingiana, a Dischidia and a cute little Stephanotis grandiflora plant.
Sharon, thank you for your generosity. Look for pics tomorrow... I hope.

Lyn, thanks for the link.
It answers that question. Now I'm sure mine is brevialata and not incurvula.
So much confusion ^_^.
***OT***We have had a rough two days here because of the fires. They are in a ring all around us here in Palm Bay. The worst are just southwest of us. My grandaughter's high school was evacuated yesterday and today all schools are closed. Tonight on the news, two more fires are burning in the northwest section. Everywhere you look in the sky, you see the smoke filled clouds. School is closed tomorrow for all of Palm Bay. They are 90 percent sure it is arson. I sure hope they hurry and get the person. There are over 160 homes gone or un-livable and 8000 without power. My daughter borrowed our generator, so at least she can have her refrigerator going. Hopefully by the end of the week we will have rain. I'm sorry to ramble, but it feels better to get it off my chest, at least a little.

Silex, MO(Zone 5b)

Oh imadigger I'm so sorry to hear that. :( I hope you and your family stay safe and like you said I hope they catch that person. What a heartless thing to do!

Knoxville, TN

Many, many thanks to Dawn for the wonderful package of cuttings that I found waiting for me yesterday when I returned from my Son's beach wedding. Dawn sent me some awesome, healthy and generous cuttings and a lovely letter of introduction.
My goodies included:
H. USDA 354-242
H. meliflua
H. australis
speckled leaf lacunosa
Aeschynanthus 'twister'
and
Aeschynanthus 'black pagoda'
Thanks again Dawn!
I have attached a post wedding picture!

I don't want to give away my swap partner surprise, so I'll just say....
Whoever gets the package from me, I think I may have mislabed a cutting - there's one in there that should be H. inconspicua (I may have labeled it H. incurvula or some other "i" word!!!). Sorry :)

Bryan, TX(Zone 8b)

Let's do it again. It was lots of fun and I got some new hoyas. Do we really have to wait a whole year?

Mark, are you up to starting it again?

Allen, KS

imadigger, I thought of you when I heard the news today. I hope all is well with you and your family.
It's beyond me also how anyone could start something like that.
Stay Safe! Jo

Mel, that looks like a wonderful sunset. How was the ceremony?

(Zone 1)

Beautiful sunset photo! What beach was the wedding held on? I bet it was very romantic in that setting!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

I just got my AMAZING boxfull of cuttings from JuliaSF!
THANK YOU JULIA!
Julia sent me healthy, large, gorgeous cuttings. And I am so excited that I now finally have cv. Mathilde (I've been wanted that for quite some time - and the cutting has EIGHT peduncles, so maybe I'll see it bloom soon!). The other cuttings are the exact type of hoya I like - large leaved and succulent.

Here's what I got (from left to right in picture):
H. cv. "Snowball"
H. cv. Mathilde
H. cinnamomifolia
H. pubicalyx "Red Buttons"
H. verticillata "Bronze"

Thank you so much Julia.
Many Hoya Hugs :)

Great swaps, all!

As for H. polyneura blooming markroy68....mine did, last fall (I think! lol...)

I had the camera all 'primed and ready', even left it on the counter to remind me. There were 3 clusters, when they appeared ready to open in the morning, I'd get home the same night (after work) and they'd be lying on the floor, akin to 'blasted'.

Of course this all had to happen during the work-week, and not on the weekend when I'd have been around to witness the blooms if they did open!

So, I'm honestly not sure whether they did, indeed, 'blast', or if they did, indeed, *bloom* and only lasted those few hours?

Somewhere I think I have photos of the unopened blooms....but alas, none of the actual blooms....I missed them!

San Francisco, CA

Ah, Gabi, I think you'll like 'Snowball'. It has bright pink flowers, despite the name. I have some in bud now (for the first time), and I can't wait.
'Mathilde' is really nice, too. I have a young plant of that in bud, that I also got from Julia. It seems to bloom younger than carnosa (the father) and is less fussy than serpens (the mother). Speaks well in favor of hybrids!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks Mark. I already love 'Snowball' - the leaves have gorgeous specking..so I guess the bright pink flowers will be a bonus!

As for 'Mathilde', I was actually worried that it was a cross from serpens, but after reading your post, I feel more at ease. The reason I was worried is because my gorgeous full serpens with hundreds of peduncles (that you put a pic of in Stemma) is now down to about 10 vines, 5 of which are healthy! It's finally starting to put on new growth, but I don't have much hope for it. Oh well, another one to put in the "bella" category!

Gabi

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Gabi, I haven't had great luck with Serpens, either.....and it ticks me off because I love it! lol!
I have one also that is (ahem) less full that it was at first, but still hanging on and has new growth.

I agree about Mathilde....she's a great grower, and not too fussy...mine has even gone quite dry a few times this past winter, with no ill effects. Mine has 3 or 4 bloom clusters that haven't quite opened yet...I've been checking every day!

Knoxville, TN

Great haul, Gabi! I received a cv. snowball from Mark in last years swap. It is one of my most cherished plants. Gifted plants are the best!

Thanks for your nice comments Mark and Lin. The ceremony was lovely. The kids said their vows in Dr. Suess rhyme. The wedding was actually at 6 am (at sunrise).

We were on Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina,Lin. Ocean Isle is actually an island...laid back and quiet. I was on the beach by 6 am with a mug of coffee every morning. Here is my favorite sunrise picture.

Mark, this is one of my many pictures of the ceremony! I was really touched by the love in Brad's eyes.

Congratulation again, Mel.

Mel,
Very very nice! Sounds like a magical time was had by all. The sunrise is lovely......I wish I was a morning person.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Congratulations Mel. Beautiful pictures of your children and the sunrise.

(Zone 1)

Mel: What a beautiful Sunrise! And, what a wonderful time of day for a wedding. Your handsome son looks so very happy! I wish them many blessings for a long and happy life together!

Sunrise is my favorite time to be on the beach! We vacation at times on the west coast of Florida and the sunset's are awesome too but there's just something about a vacant beach at sunrise with no one around ... not even the gulls and pelicans awake yet! We are only about 1 1/2 miles from the beach ... don't know why I don't go watch the sunrise any more ... getting old I guess.

(Zone 1)

Imadigger: How are the fires down your way? I hope you and your family are safe. The one fire here in Daytona is 95% contained. I know there were multiple fires in your area. I was so glad to see on the news tonight that they caught and arrested that one young man. Look at all the heartache and damage he has caused! I hope if there are more arsonists out there that the authorities catch them soon too. It's just such a shame that people have to intentionally set fires. Thank goodness no lives have been lost but it's so sad about the millions of dollars of damages with the home and property loss. Stay safe.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Mel...Brad looks SO grown up! What happened? I certainly didn't grow up during any of this time!!! And he looks so much like you!!! Beautiful sunrise...one of my favorite times of the day too. I am generally too exhausted to enjoy the sunsets!!!!

Aloha

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Lynn, thanks so musch for thinking of us. So far, every thing is OK. They are keeping their eyes on the hot spots. No new fires have started. Thank God! My daughter called a few minutes ago and her power has been restored.
If this person is the arsonist, I hope they put him away forever. So many people have lost homes.
Over 162 homes are destroyed or un-livable.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Just awful!

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

I just got mine today! kellyknits... THANK YOU! I did not have any of those. Thank you so much. i have been under the weather since i got back from vacation (figures) AND my FIL was in a terrible car accident (broke every bone in his face) he is 83. So I haven't really had a change to rest from vacation, so please forgive me for the lateness of getting my package out. he will OK thank the Lord. Just a slow healing process. Anyhoo, i will be sending out my package tomorrow.
Thanks again Kelly, I look forward to sharing cuttings of these in the future!
Dawn

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Hey Gabro, how was your vacation? Mine was wonderful.

Shepherdstown, WV

Dawn,
You're very welcome. Check the spelling on a couple of those as it was late when I was getting everything together. For some reason last night it suddenly struck me that I should have verified the spelling.
I'm so sorry about your FIL. That has to be so stressful for all of you.
As much as we all love our hoyas there are times when suddenly they don't seem so important, so with all you have going on if the cuttings don't make it, let me know and I'll gladly send you more!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your FIL!
Kelly
