I will end with this picture of my daughter who was waiting on me while I was in another town taking pics of flowers. She hates to have her picture taken! I just yelled at her, "Get over there because you are so cute". She actually let me take one!

Great "Action" shots, Gail! PRETTY PLANTS!

I have a pretty Adenium. Here she is, but she is bigger now. Actually, I need a new photo. She is FAT NOW, so much cuter!!! My yard was young in that photo!!!

The plants are pretty but my 40 year old daughter is cuter than the plants!
My adeniums have bloomed once this spring but then we had a cold front and now they are starting over with their blooming.

I missed part of this thread! Nancy, those streps are magnificent and you and Kim can grow the chiritas. I can't............I tried and tried...........no more!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nice plants everyone... Gail I love the one that you don't know the name of so if you find out please let me know... I am going to rearrange my plants tomorrow on a different shelf... The one I have them on I can't keep the lights at a good level so this other stand I should be able to do that... Will see...LOL
I got a couple of new plants coming in the middle of May and can't wait for them to get here...LOL Silly huh?
I love Chiritas but so far I have only gotten the one that Kim(Dimmer) sent to me... but could be that these were smaller and had to get bigger... Time will tell....
Ok off to read a few forums then bed for this lady....
Hugs,
Susan

Wow! Go away for awhile and look what I miss!! Beautiful photo's Gail. I guess it's good I don't have nice nurseries like that near me ... I would be BROKE! Amazing plants!

Your daughter is a doll ... very pretty girl and she sure looks a lot younger than 40! A beauty like her Mom!

Ok, this is not a Gessie but I have to post a photo. I got this Hoya multiflora in a trade with Kim last fall and it has blasted buds twice on me. I have been watching it like a hawk the past two weeks thinking all the buds were going to fall off again. I was gone all day today and just a few minutes ago thought to go look at it ... lo and behold - BLOOMS!! I am so excited!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Great blooms, Lin!! They didn't blast this time! My Oh My! I just rembered I found some hoya blooms today out hanging under the trees. Will post them tomorrow.
Since they don't always come very often, I get more excited about a hoya bloom than any other bloom.

Thanks for the compliment but my daughter is nice and trim.............her mother is very overweight and wishes she cared!! (LOL) But I am still just wishing that I 'really wanted' to lose weight, but I don't care. What happens to us when we get older???????????? I don't know but I certainly like getting older. (I won't be posting any pics of me anytime soon and that is a promise.........will just live vicariously through my daughters)

Susan...........you have to tell me which picture or post number you are talking about as I don't know a lot of plants I posted ............

Your daughter is so cute, Gail. Very nice photo of her!

(Zone 1)

Gail, I think Susan was asking about the Begonia that you said was your very favorite! This one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4906506 in the first photo you posted! That is a wonderful begonia and I too would love to know the name! I love the bird she has perched on it too!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

yes that bird did add an extra something special!

Oh Gail...sigh..where do I start? I just LOVE it when you go to the nurseries. Talk about living vicariously through another!!! LOL I loved every pic posted. Really liked the Cryptanthus/Earth Star in the first arrangements. I saw Hoyas in just about every pic! Exciting! Loved the pink begonia with the bird. And the pink leaved Epi! A lot of those turn colors in high light. I couldn't have left without that one!
And your daughter is beautiful and looks SO much like you!
What a nice place to have close by. We have nothing. The best place is where I work :(

Lin- Your multiflora is beautiful! Mine blasted AGAIN!- Blast it! LOL

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

No it was a cactus of some kind let me look up and see what post it was... BRB

(Zone 1)

Oh, I LOVE that Epi with the pink coloration to the foliage! I have a few Epi's that I received as cuttings in trades when I first joined DG. All noids. I remember one lady marked with a magic marker a couple of the cuttings with a letter B and I can't remember what the other letter was but I have no idea what it meant. They rooted and are growing but I have not had blooms. I'm wondering if they need more sun? I have them all on a PVC Shelving unit in my screened pool enclosure. They get sun most of the day but it is filtered by the screen. Wonder if I should move them outside into more sun?

I would not have been able to leave without that gorgeous plant either. And, that Begonia and a few hoyas and maybe a brom or two ... and oh yeah, maybe one of those mixed containers!

I'd be broke if I lived somewhere that had a nursery as awesome as that!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok this is the only way I can tell you what one it is... here is your picture of it....
Hugs,
Susan
Thanks everyone

Susan: That's the Epiphyllum (Orchid Cactus) that Diane and I were wanting! Beautiful plant!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Lin- If your Epis were cuttings and you got them last year it's normal not to have blooms yet. SOme of the Ackermanii varieties bloom sooner but most from cuttings it's several years before blooms. I think the average is about 3years from a cutting but that of course will vary. Some of them won't bloom until they start sending up the three sided stiff 'cane'- then you know to be watching for the buds. The first year or two they need the some nitrogen fert. After they're mature enough you're supposed to cut the nitro out and use something with potassium and phosphorous during the early spring. ANyway....
I'd be broke too if I lived where Gail does. And have to have a bigger house!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

I keep trying to think of the Epi's name in the pic. I know I know it! Seems like it's somethig ramulosa argh! Can't think of it! Not Epiphyllum.......

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

SOOOO Many things to say!

Gail, those are some AMAZING shots! Imagine a greenhouse that grew houseplants? I have NEVER been to one. We have only a couple of greenhouses here in Maine but not 1 of them grows houseplants. I keep TRYING to talk the Agway (also known as Green Mountain Transplants) to grow houseplants but so far they are not interested.
Gail, your daughter is simply stunning!!! What a pretty lady and such a warm and gentle smile :) You must be so proud.

The plant everyone is wondering about, I THINK is a Rhipsalis. They are normally green but when exposed to high light, become pink. They have TINY white flowers and then the flowers turn into berries (like seen in the picture). They can get very big and gangly. In all honesty, flowers on Epiphyllums are much larger and prettier in my opinion if you are going to grow something that gets that big. Gail, the flowers that you will get from the epiphyllums I sent you are going to rock your world! If you think that red one is pretty :) They are all named and if I remember right, one of them is 3 oranges which is a SUPER orange :) I CAN'T WAIT to see your Deutsche Kaiserin bloom!

Lin, I am SO proud of you! Would you look at that Multiflora! WOWZERS! Congratulations on your first bloom! Don't you just LOVE it? PLEASE do watch for bugs after it flowers though. Hoyas secret a "honey" "nectar" when they bloom. Lots of times this lands on their leaves and there are LOTS of bugs that LOVE the stuff so just be mindful of that OK? :) That is SO awesome!

Syrumani I am propagating and removed LOTS of AV babies right now. Mostly mini and semi mini but I have a couple of really nice standards thrown in too. In the fall, I would be happy to make you a box for postage and you can raise them all winter. I should be able to fit QUITE A FEW in a flat rate $8.95 box for you :)

I kept checking Dave's yesterday and no one was writing so I turned the computer off and BAM look at everything I missed *lol*

AWESOME growing everyone!

Kim - that would be great! Just let me know! Nichole

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Will do :)
Right now I have 3 trays of baby AV's and 2 trays of leaves down AND Wednesday night is our AV meeting and I ALWAYS come home with new leaves *lol*
I have not reached the point yet where I can throw a leaf out of just keep 1 or 2 babies....NOOOOO I have to plant EVERYTHING *lol*
They say I will eventually reach the point where I can throw things out and I can see that coming down the road for me but for right now every leaf is a possible life *lol*
Maybe this afternoon when I get home from work I will post some pictures of my baby AV's. They are REALLY tiny right now that is why I said the fall so that I can grow them to a nice size and they can survive shipping a little easier.
I like fall boxes, really boosts the spirits when things are starting to get cooler and the leaves start falling and everything is beginning to look like winter :(

If someone gets a chance, we really could use a new thread already *lol*

Thanks Kim..I was just about to do the link thingy..you know what they say..great minds..LOL

(Zone 1)

Diane: Thank you for the info on Epi's! I just went out and inspected mine because I thought one was growing quite a bit.

Don't know the name but need to put it in hanging basket as this is the only pot I had when I got the cuttings so I just stuck them all in here. And, it looks like something has been chewing at the foliage!

Thumbnail by plantladylin
(Zone 1)

I also have a little pot of that Pseudorhipsalis ramulosa/Disocactus ramulosa - the plant Gail showed with the pink, pink foliage! I got a cutting from Nan in my very first plant swap here on DG. I'm going to move this little guy out into the sunshine so the foliage will turn pink! It's been inside my florida room for a more than a year. Might grow some if I give it a little food and it's in desperate need of a drink of water! LOL. I'm a bad plant mommy!

Another pot of an unknown Epi that I dumped onto the deck ... need to clean the pool deck anyway!

Thumbnail by plantladylin
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I should have gotten that basket of whatever it was (you all gave it a name with the pink foliage).

Lin, your plants look great......
Isn't it fun to have friends to share with..........my friends here don't garden..........

(Zone 1)

Gail, I don't know many folks around here who are into plants (house plants) either. Folks do garden outside in their yards but as for houseplants I don't know of anyone who is into them. I swap garden plants with my backyard neighbor quite often!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't even know anyone except my son in law who likes houseplants and his patio plants.
