Happy May! Post your May Pictures Here

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Good Morning Everyone!

Yep, up and at 'em bright and early this morning!
Boy, we sure can fill up a thread fast these days. But what AMAZING pictures!
Honestly, I like our pictures here so much better than pictures on "the web".
You all should write to nurseries and ask if they'd like to borrow yours *lol*

Brenda, I hope you don't mind but I would like to start this thread out with the Splattercake picture you posted at the end of April as that is a real favorite of mine and I'm HOPING my darn leaf will send me up some babies real soon. She sure is being stubborn.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

HAPPY MAY!

Thanks for starting us a new one, Kim! ^_^

Here's AV Shoshone that Gail sent me. I'm growing it in a self-watering pot. All my hopes are hung on this plant, because if it doesn't make it, I'm done with AVs. LOL

All the pictures are great... I love seeing all the diffrent colors.. I am going to wick more this weekend... I have another one cut out and ready to go... LOL I have to adjust where I put them now as I have to lower the lights for the next round of ones I put on the wicking trays.... I am so happy I got it in my head how to do and it really came out good... I am thrilled... It was really easy and I truly think the plants will do better for it...
ok just a not as I am off to work and then to buy a new router for computers.....
Hugs,
Susan

Good Morning Ladies ... my a couple of you are up at the crack of dawn aren't you?

I just love the bloom on Splattercake ... that name fits that bloom perfectly! The folks who hybridize sure come up with some unique and clever names sometimes. I can never even think of a cute name for one of our pets much less a plant!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

You know, listening to all you ladies and watching Susan put together her "wicking station" I'm thinking that I MIGHT give into wicking someday. Right now I don't think I'm ready but I'm saving containers "just in case" *lol*

Ok, no real gessie pictures this morning but my pretty daffodils were blooming and then don't you know, two days of rain and they were laying on the ground this morning. SOOOOO I went out and cut them and made this:

Here's a closeup of my favorites :)
Last year I received a book from Springhill and there was a coupon for $25.00 worth of FREE things. You didn't even have to buy ANYTHING!
So I spent hours after hours figuring out what the cheapest and prettiest bulbs were and how to get the most with my free $25.00 and decided to get their daffodil mix. My order came to $24.99 with shipping *lol* and they sent me some of the prettiest daffs I've seen. Double ones, peach ones, etc. I just LOVE free coupons!

LOL On the pet names, Lin! I've decided if ever I hybridize something and end up registering it, I'll name it after my dog. ;o)

Those daffs are beautiful, Kim! Mine are gone. :o( But other stuff is starting to bloom! :o)

I bought an Aeschynanthus at Lowe's the other night. It's tagged as Rasta, but it's the one that's just backwards to the Rasta most of us have. Looks variegated. I love it! Wish I knew what it's really called.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

I just love those peachy colored ones at the bottom, Kim! What a fabulous deal you got on them, too!

Here's a closeup of that Aeschy.

GREAT score Amy, that's a really pretty one! And you're right, it's looks variegated!!!! Love the curly leaves :) So girly and feminine :)

I think you could grow these, Kim. Mine suffer thru the winter, too, but come spring, just lop off the ugly parts and they throw out new growth and look lovely!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I know but I had SUCH a hard time with the ones from Snow and just watching them wither really did a number on me. I have Aeschynatanthus Mona Lisa, Black Pagoda and Micranthus and that's enough of those for me *lol*.....for now anyways. *lol*

Oh, would you post a pic of Micranthus some time, please? That name rings a bell and I'd like to see it. I have Mona Lisa and Black Pagoda. ML blooms quite frequently and BP never does, but I love the foliage so much I don't even care. All the cuttings I sent out last year have bloomed for the people who received them, so apparently I cut off everything that was mature enough to bloom! LOL

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Here is a picture of Aeschynatanthus Micranthus.
It's actually the variegated one but I hung it outside last summer and it lost all it's variegation, never to return *lol*
It's a species plant and the flowers are kind of drab compared to many of the others.
You are welcome to it for postage if you'd like it :)

Here is a picture of it's little drab flower *lol*

Thumbnail by kimskreations

Aww! I don't think it's drab! I like it! ^_^ While my first thought is to take you right up on your offer, the reasonable side of me says I should wait, finish repotting everything I'm going to be hanging outside, and see if I have any hooks left. LOL I had my husband put up another row of hooks for me just the other day, and that same day I had to bring everything back in (for the second time, mind you) because of a cold front moving in. I'm putting everything back out today, so let me see where I stand and I'll let you know. ^_^ Thanks so much for offering, though!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

You just say the word and it's in a box my friend :)
I know, I'm trying to get rid of everything I have hanging that's not a gessie and SLOWLY replace them with gessies.
Luckily I have found REALLY GREAT HOMES for the things I'm parting with and KNOW they will be cherished.
Plus, I will still get to see pictures of them which I always love :)
Don't you just love sending something and then see it's new mommy's post pictures of them? I tell you, nothing brightens my day more :)

Kim

If I were really smart, I'd be getting rid of some of my plants, too. I may end up doing just that, too. Let me show you why... And keep in mind, I lost probably a dozen or more plants over the winter. I had most of the hanging baskets outside but had to bring them in because of the cold snap. Here's what I'm dealing with at the moment...

The den

The back hallway window...

Thumbnail by RainGazer

The back hallway floor. Actually, that's my husband's toolbox. Nice flat surface that keeps them off the floor so the dogs won't knock them over and I open the blinds on the french doors and they get a bit of light. Thankfully he hasn't needed anything out of the toolbox in a few days. ^_^

Thumbnail by RainGazer

That palm hates me, by the way. It's from my grandfather's funeral, so I really hope I can figure out how to make it happy. The reddish pot next to it is a Hydrangea from his funeral as well. I need to get it set out today. I don't want to lose either of those plants.

Here's the west kitchen windows. Most of those potted Orchids will go outside, but the mounted ones will stay in. Lin sent me starts of several of the most fabulous Rhipsalis plants I've ever seen (Thank you again, Lin! ^_^), and they're all hanging here, too. Haven't decided if I'll keep them in or hang them on the shady side of the carport.

And my husband says our house is like a jungle! Pfft! LOL ;o)

Wowzers Amy, you relly DO have your hands full *lol*
I would be SO overwhelmed I think *lol*
Hubby just said to me today "Kim, where do you plan to put everything"?
I said "well, I'm really only keeping 1 of everything, all the others are going to my friends" *lol*
He just laughed. He knows all about my obsessive/compulsiveness and accepts me for the nut that I am *lol*

You have some real pretties there Amy :) I bet they are just going to LOVE it outside :)

Thanks Kim, I knew you would be one of the early birds that could get us going for May pictures! ^_^ Your daffodils are so pretty, I really like the double ones. I think I planted some like that last fall, maybe in another month I'll see them. LOL

Amy I can not even imagine hauling all those plants in and out once, much less twice! You could set up your own nursery for sure. ^_^

I'm getting some more blooms on Playful Spectrum, I like the extra "whoop de do" twist that comes with the blooms on this one.

AWWWW Brenda, she is just STUNNING! I love those color combinations! What a looker :) ALMOST as pretty as Splattercake. Alright, she's as pretty as Splattercake :)
We have the same taste in AV's Bren. You like fantasies too?
Are you going to need some AV babies this fall? They multiply like rabbits *lol*

Very pretty :)

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Bren, forgot you told me you had enough AV's *lol*
Seems like we're all in the same boat with AV's *lol*

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Ok, still laughing over the AV and Rabbits comparison!! It is so true, they just keep popping up, a half dozen at a time every time I turn around! LOL

As if that wasn't enough I planted mini AV seeds!! These are just the ones the ones I kept!! ^_^ Some are starting to bloom, I need to get pictures.

Oh my, Mrsbonnie ... she is so pretty in pink! Love it! Now, tell me is country pink a small, medium or large variety?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am addicted to DG and my friends! What can I say? I have just looked at those daffodils which we don't get to grow as we don't have a period of dormancy for them. They are beautiful, Kim.

Rain, you do have a house full of plants.

Brenda, I am just now figuring out why I have so many growing avs the same as you. You sent av leaves last fall. Playful Spectrum hasn't had her first bloom yet.

Can't stay long as I am baby sitting tonight with two of the grands while their mother sees the dance recital of the third one for the second time today.

Don't anyone think I have my camera figured out yet. I was just clicking pics today of all the kids at the dance recital and ask my daughter why every picture was blurry and she started laughing. All this time, what I thought was automatic was the action setting!!!!!!!! (LOL)

See you all when I get home as my granddaughter needs this comptuer for homework.

South, TX

That is funny about the action mode of the camera. At least now you will know the right one. Those lazy av's just being too STILL, ha. It takes time to figure out a new camera. So many settings etc.
