I'm going to repot Maya this year, I sent out cuttings last fall, so I only have a couple that managed to survive started, even with my neglect and abuse, so those two are my keepers. But, I will keep EVERYONE in mind when I repot.. Jan, so sorry you lost it, I lost some precious stuff too, but remember I strive to attain, so I have my "feelers" out.. ;) I'll try the soy chocolate, does it come in dark? Jan, I have some kit kats on the counter right now... ! James, if only it were JUST brugs we were "into". Na! I like variety! I need to get back at it, took the day off to "work" at home.. (in my plants!!! It's Spring!)
Baby Brug Seedlings...continuation
Aunty B biggest congratulations on your seeds popping up ...and now a new adventure begins ...just remember to ease them gently into the sunshine ...morning sun afternoon shade ...start in fairly good shade and then a bit at a time.I am thrilled for you.You all sound so happy ...I am so enjoying all the fun
chrissy
:) Thanks, and for the sun tips, too. I'm babying them, they are inside, still too chilly for such youngins'. Chrissy, you're part of the fun, too! It's nice to enjoy others excitement. I think it is getting winter there for you now? I'll remember when I take them out to slowly acclimate them, just like the big guys (and gals) downstairs (only babiez get LOTS more attention).. I've been working on potting, repotting (I'm addicted to other plants, too) and on the lawn mower today... just ran (okay, hobbled) downstairs to survey Maya.. The growth I could cut is above the "Y".. It is semi hard wood, then there's some old hard wood and then, the part of the plant I don't want to cut.. it was new shoots from the roots, last year, and will make an interesting specimen. Here's what I can do: Tammie and James, Kim, you want one, too, Chrissy can I send them to Sydney? I doubt the old wood would root.. It is smooth wood. I can send semi hard above the "Y" cuttings OR I could wait for new shoots from the roots this spring and when they get aged a bit (probably July or Aug) I could chop and send out.. Poor girl, she needs more room, it's been a couple years since I set her in there. I'm fixing to separate the old growth from last year's new growth. I'll repot both pieces and I hope to get more new shoots, just from giving them more room. The old part is pretty ragged looking. Sound sensible? She's such a producer and not finicky at all, "cleans her plate and drinks her glass empty" :) , the aphids had a ball on her this winter, she just kept flushing... only thing about her is she is a tricky one to root for me. James what is that variegated one you have? Peaches and Cream?
Bonnie, Is Maya a variegated one? I've newly acquired a NOID variegated brug. So I'm ok for now. For the names sakes, it's easier to look up by named cultivar. But even mine isn't named it's showing y-formation at a young age -- that makes me so thrilled, lol. So I'll show pics. of her later. Thanks all the same for your offer.
Luv you.
Kim
now that isnt jamie that is for sure but very nice I think you still might have to wait untill it blooms. Good Luck with llittle guy.....
James
I'm waiting, waiting, lol.
Kim
Oh WOW! The variegated leaf Brugs are BEAUTIFUL!! So Jamie and Peaches and Cream have those leaves?
I know you are me to keep us posted!!!
I "heard" P&C isn't as easy to bloom as Maya, and Jamie is new to me, (I don't have one, first year I've heard of him, where have I been? in the basement... lol) Do Jamie's blooms go white to peach (orange)? The variegated leaves are such an attention getter, just pulls your eyeballs to them. I just LOVE all brugs.
No the blooms on jamie are yellow and almost golden it realll looks spectacular when it is in flush. Well I can send you a cutting right after it blooms which I think will happen soon as now today i noticed a Y starting on it as well I am so excited I have all of these great brugs that are all getting ready to bloom...lol
James
James, isn't it glorious? All the loving dedication pays off, BIG time! I'm looking forward to seeing them all. Thanks for the offer, I will call it James in my garden. I sure wish there was something to cut on Maya right now, but she will produce for us this spring, yet. I'm even keeping my eyes open while visiting nurseries.
OH my kim how wonderful glad to see in blooming but I think that maya can it is really beautilful when it is in full bloom it starts out white and then turns pink which I think is wonderful.
James
That versi A does have a dreamy color, Kim, looks almost good enough to eat! (remember, brugs are poisonous) How's the smell? citrusy? sweet? .. but I love Maya for her continual prolific production.. this was her the 2nd summer, I bought her when she was a foot and a half to 2 ft tall in a 2 qt pot at a local nursery (has since folded).. (gosh, I've had her 4 yrs!!!- should write that down) I like all brugs, but Maya is my fav in the production category, and the variegated leaves of course..
Last year, on this flush, I stopped counting blooms after 1,000... I'll take a pic of her when I bring her outside, before I repot and divide, she looks pretty pathetic in the basement, right now, ... but she will amaze me with her come-back. I hope to have LOTS of cuttings to share later this season..
By jorge! Bonnie, after seeing Maya's flush, I've changed my mind. I'm standing in line for the end of the season's cutting. May I please.
Kim
Sure, Kim, I'll add you to my Maya list. She's a lovely. All the other brugs don't like her, cause she's my pet. lol Really she's just very low maintenance as far as bugs (cept for the aphids this winter) and disease. Very forgiving and prolific. Just feed and water, no fuss, little muss (bloom clean-up can be time consuming, oh well).
It's just precious! So fresh and healthy looking!
Great to hear about the fertilizer. It colored up great! Look at it, perfect! I have my "special" ones, too, from time to time, but when they are infants, (as with humans), I check on them more and the special ones, even more. (Not that they ALL aren't special, but you know what I mean) I got some Free fertilome food at a nursery this weekend (free? I spent $100) I'm at work so I can't read the label, but it had VERY low numbers on the outside with a number of 59 in the middle... it was called root enhancer/bloom booster... I'm reseaching it a little before I use it (crs- always have to google to figure out what each number is for..... Meanwhile, still have my organic food and some 20-20-20 from last year. Lovely baby, Kim, keep cuddling.
Hello everyone. JanLynn, Thanks for inviting me to this group. I hope this is the right one. Anyway. I just got my very first brug cutting from JanLynn, and am so anxious to see it grow and bloom. It is Insignis Pink. I think she started a new favorite flower!!!
Linda
Hi Linda, welcome. Congrats on your first brug. They will bring much joy.
Kim
My brugs are all strruggling just to survive.. in pots and in the ground.. doesn't matter. I may have broadmites... spidermites were taken care of.. all the leaves keep turning very fine spotty yellow and fall off. My seedlings.. I have two.. are also struggling. It has been so very hot and dry. Temps over 100 and humidity under 10%. I am considering some avid to try..
Hey Linda! Glad to see that you made it over here.
I made certain that I kept enuff of the Insignis Pink cuttings for myself this time...thanks to a very sweet generous DGer who shared cuttings with me for postage!!! And, having 'extra' I decided to share (begin...) the brug obsession with Linda/taters55 for a very special b/d present...
I transplanted one of my brug seedlings into a 'big brug' pot (a play on words...she's a 'big girl' now :) and she is almost as big as one of my cuttings that I rooted over the winter!!! We have not gotten DSL, still on MSN dial-up, so it's hard (time-consuming) for me to 'send' pics here but I'm gonna try to transfer pics from my cell phone to here...wish me 'luck'!!
Tammy, I spray all my plants with Messenger and I believe that it has helped them to be tougher against the elements. I thought that I had 'lost' all my newly acquired canna tubers from last Fall but I planted them anyway and sprayed w/Messenger with hopes that they may possibly have life in them, yet. Well, I am SO VERY HAPPY to report that some of my "deadish-looking" cannas are ALIVE!!! YIPPEE!!! I just noticed last nite as I was doing my 'garden/plant inspection' that my Canna Musafolia is indeed alive and has 3 baby nubs coming up---WHOOO HOOO!!!! Can you tell that I am excited and thrilled and happy and........?!?! So, if you'd like to try some of the Messenger I can send you a packet to try...can't hurt. D-Mail me.
I have to make up some more of the Beer Fertilizer mixture and start feeding my babies so they can grow BIG and strong and flower pretty flowers :)
Just "ME"...Jan
Clemen, congrats! Quite a starter collection you've there. I too have acquired my new variegated brug this early spring about the size of yours. And look, it's blooming right now.
The tall one in the middle could be yellow/orange bloom likes that of Charles Gimaldi brug. The left one may as well be pink is my guess.
Here is my Sauvolens 'Variegeta' in blooms.
Kim
Beautiful picture of your blooming brug Kim! Clemen, those are really healthy, good-looking brugs that you have there---congratulations!!!
Jan
Kim, you nailed it! yes the tall one is Brazilian yellow and the other is pink, what an eye you have. Your variegated one is beautiful, can't wait to see mine bloom.
Thanks Jan Lynn, I hope they bloom this year. My old brug just has leaves right now, have been feeding her like crazy and nothing yet, I'm so inpatient! Clem
Wowsers Kim---I'm quite impressed with your knowledge!!! Clem-they'll bloom! I tried to send a pic that I took w/cell phn of my first brug bloom opening (from last year) but it didn't work :(
"ME"
Clem-
Patience is not one of my virtues, either. I have dug up around several of my EE's (third time I've done this...) and last nite FINALLY am seeing stem "nubs" growing out of the bulbs---YIPPEE!!!
Jan
Jan, how those cuttings turned out for you? I've planted your gigantic bulb, and guess what? I see shoot coming up already (ofcourse they were sprouting upon arrival here). Thanks again.
This is the pink that you've got a cutting from. This one put out its first bloom. One of the same cutting harvested same time as yours (cutting).
Kim
Jann Lynn, my elephant ears are not even coming up, only the ones that I planted in pots rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............Maybe it was the cold May we had, I always have such a tropical looking garden in the front of my house (I actually liek people looking at my yard, they always admired it, but woitouht those ee's ) , this year, oh well, so far nothing is happening! I need my ee's growing NOW, yes no Patience! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Love everyone though
Kim, nice pinkie there!, Clemen
Kim-
It'll be a couple of years yet, won't be able to retire for 9 more years (will be 56 next month...). Definately will be coming South---tired of being over-taxed here in WI and absolutely HATE the winters (UGH!). I usually keep my EE's in pots as they hold heat better and they're easy to transport back to the basement w/o losing the growth. The ones in the ground take too long to grow due to the ground not being as warm. I also sprayed all the EE's with Messenger and let the bulbs dry before planting them.
My "Kim's Pink" Brug is putting most of its energy into developing the roots but it has been outside since I rec'd it (planted in a pot in a nice sunny location) and is developing green growth. The orangey/yellow cuttings are also planted outside in pots and are doing very well too! The seedling brug is astounding me in it's growth---WOW!
Jan
I went back to check on my ee and still no sign, rrrrrrrrrrrrrr, must have been that cold April and May! Clem
