DAILY PICS VOL. 100

Marlton, NJ

Haven't seen many raptors around here lately so I thought I'd start us out with this old pic of one.

Would anyone like to guess what type it is? I'll let Resin tell you whether its right; I'm off to take a much needed nap.

Hopefully I'm on the right thread this time. I went to Scott River because I had heard Rumors that the Blue Heron had returned to their nest, but found an empty nest.

While there I got some long range pics of an Osprey.

My guess on the hawk is Coopers.

beautiful color on the Oriole

I'd go Sharp-shin, as the legs look quite slender (sharp shins!) and the bill small too.

A late spring snow storm dumped a record breaking 18 inches on us, in the last 24 hours. But, that wasn't enough to stop a pair of Chickadees from apartment hunting in the yard.

I would guess Cooper's too.

Love your pictures, Pelle, Adel, Resin and Gary.

Was Out on my deck this afternoon, and was surrounded by Redpolls. Lots of chirping, actually very loud, I was only about 3 feet away.

Great pictures everyone!

Today I added another new bird to my life list ... the Wilson's Phalarope.

They were a fair distance from shore and it was almost sunset; so my pictures didn't turn out very good. Even so, I don't recall ever seeing these birds on this forum; so I decided to post a couple of the pictures I took.

Here's a picture of the whole flock.

Here's as close as I could get (with a lot of cropping) to one of the phalaropes,

In addition to this being a new bird, I couldn't quit laughing as I watched them. They have the most unusual feeding habit, spinning in circles, which creates a vortex that helps raise food to the surface. Seeing the whole bunch of them spinning around almost made me dizzy.

I found this video that shows one of them feeding.

Can you imagine seeing 30-40 of them doing this all at once?
