Do You See What I See?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Key............now I am totally confused..........help me...........my soil never dries out with seeds domed (especially in a zip lock bag)

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Gail, if your seeds never dry out, then you don't have to think about it. Remember everyone's growing conditions is different. Here the conditions are very different from winter (well-sealed container necessary) to summer (I could germinate seed without a dome).

Thanks, Key.
I am also going to use a lighter germination soil less mix next time!

Nancy, those are awesome! I'm SO excited for you!!!
WOOOO HOOOO :)
You will NEVER guess what I did? ME? I let mine dry out.....me the over waterer.....yep let them dry out *lol*
Needless to say, I sat down today and pricked out only the strongest and put them in some moistened soil *lol* I think I should be able to save about 20 or 30 of them which is PLENTY *lol*
I couldn't believe I did that *lol*
That is SO awesome :)

I'm really excited about my upcoming cross and can't wait until fall to harvest us all some new seed. I think that new cross is going to be neat too :)

Today Maasen's White was crossed with Sylvia :) I did 2 flowers just in case :) Time to cross the fingers and wait and see if we had a love connection. In the next couple of days, Sylvia will be crossed with Maasen's White :) My head just swims with the possibilities :)

I can't wait until we start seeing some blooms from this cross :) Isn't it fun? I'm SO glad people are willing to help me grow some of these NOID's *lol* Maybe you will get something worth naming? How awesome would that be?

XO

Here are the survivors from the same cross you are growing out that I let dry out. I started these on 4/6

Now these ones were started 2/7 (so it's been over 3 months) and it's a simple Bristol's Party Box X Self but I'm quite excited as I really struggled with growing from seed and still do sometimes but these have seemed to do well. I did what Jannich suggested and "shifted them around".

Lettuce anyone? *lol*

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I know that I should probably pot them all up but I just don't want to take up that much space *lol* I figure they seem to be liking it in there just the way they are so I will leave them in there until they bloom and just pluck out the ones I like the blooms on? I have never grown streps from seed so it's all new to me *lol* They kind of seem to like be nestled together *lol*

They look like they are very comfortable and happy..lol..oh before i forget again..is it alright to fertilize them when they are this small? I don't want to mess anything up..lol..

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I would only use Fish Emulsion at this point and VERY diluted (1/8 - 1/2 tsp/gallon). NO fertilizer yet....will burn their tiny tiny roots.

:)

Gotcha Kim..I have that so I will try it on a few and see how they do.Thanks : )

Update!!....They are Still Alive!!..LOL..Kim here are the seedlings that I sowed from the experiment with your cross on april 8th...it is now July 11th and this is the size they are..the ones I potted up early all died..from my ignorance of course..I sure don't want to lose any of these! Can someone tell me what to do now? They are now 3 months old..things seem to grow at a snails pace for me! Should I pot each one in their own pot and dome them or just keep them in their nursery container perhaps with the lid off? add more mix around them? put them closer to the lights?sorry to seem so dumb but this is the largest any gessie I have started from seed has ever gotten before I killed them..lol..I am so excited to see them alive yet and hope to keep them that way..I would just love to be able to grow them to blooming size..oooo That would be the *Ultimate* accomplishment and thrill for me!

Congrats, Nancy.........look how leggy they are. IT is past time to put them up in individual solo cups in whatever mix you grow your streps in. I would wick them with string (no.18 or 36) and place them on a mat with a dome...........then you can start slowly moving the dome around until they can grow on their own......but don't be in a hurry..........leave them under at least a partial dome for a couple of weeks. Be sure to plant them deeply as they have gotten leggy........
Good luck!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the help Gail..that was a major concern of mine..how deep to plant them so they won't flop all over..good to know...ok I will go ahead and pot them up, wick and dome them...keep your fingers crossed for me..lol..Thanks Again..Very Excited : o

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

WOW Nancy, look at those! Congratulations!
Can't wait to see your first blooms.
I didn't have any advice for you as you should see mine *lol* I left them all in the same container and it looks like lettuce *lol*
I gave the whole container a haircut this morning *lol*

Lotsa fun :)

Great Growing!

Oh Nancy, that is just SO SO SO AWESOME!
I can't wait to see what your babies blooms looks like.
Remember though, the first blooms are not going to be entirely accurate as many times it's only the second flush of blooms that show many of the traits. But ooooooh how exciting!

You have really done a fantastic job with them! I just LOVE seeing updates :)

They look marvelous Nancy!

Wooo Hooo, you grow girl!

((((( HUGZ )))))

(Zone 1)

Oh, How cool is that! Great job Nancy! Those babies look great!

Kim shared seeds with me also but they sat around and I didn't sow them until May 18th ... container is still sitting there but no sign of green! I don't think they are going to do anything at this late date ... almost 4 months! But, I am not giving up just yet ... I will leave the container on the stand under the lights for awhile longer, to see if anything happens, LOL. I remember getting strep seeds from Snowrose one time and they took forever to sprout! I thought they were not going to germinate and after a few months sure enough, there were teeny little green ears peeking out. Ended up losing them when someone said they should be thinned and put into their own little cups/pots. I think it was too soon because shortly thereafter they faded away.

Can't wait to see the progress on your babies and the blooms when they get bigger! Keep us posted!

Nancy, my friend............wow is all I can say. You have done an incredible job with those seeds. You stuck with it and now what beauty we are going to see.............

Kim, I am going to go through all my seed and see if you sent some to me........I think maybe you did...................I have all my seeds in one place..........but am behind in planting.Do you remember or not if you sent seeds to me..........

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I did Gail. I sent it in your card when you had your teeth done.
I hope you find them because I ended up cutting all the seedpods off my crosses as I think I was trying to cross them too early and it was taking all the energy out of my baby streps.
Next year I will try more crosses again but I want them to get bigger first.

I hope you find them.

Kim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I will do that right now!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I found the envelope from you...........now tell me what the seeds were in , KIM?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

They were in a tiny plastic zip top baggie Gail.
I sent them to quite a few people and I know I sent you some my friend :)

Hope you find them :)

XO
Kim
