Spooks and ghosts and weeping ladies...oh my! Pt 2

I thought we might be getting a tad long on the other thread, so...

We came from here.

ALL stories are welcome.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Okay. When I was a teen, we lived in a rental house in NW San Antonio, TX. It had a hallway from the living room in the front down past the bedrooms to the bathroom door. Sometimes late at night we'd hear footsteps going down the hallway. If we had the nerve to look into the hallway, we saw nothing....except once when I saw a small point of light in the dark. My younger sister moved into the last bedroom on the right after my brother moved out. She later told us she would sometimes see a ghost at night in her room....a woman dressed in green. She had been irritated by her being there and just wanted her to leave. So we refer to her as the lady in green. We lived there until my parents bought a house....a new house with no ghosts.
'

(Zone 7a)

Your sister was irritated or the lady in green? Was it frightening to you or just a fun experience?

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

My sister was irritated because she (the ghost) sometimes just wouldn't go away. Maybe that bedroom had been hers when she was alive. It was a bit scary when I'd hear the footsteps...especially if I was alone in the house! But I never felt like I was in danger...it was just weird, that's all. If I was in the living room alone at night, I'd keep the door to the hallway closed.

(Zone 7a)

Sounds like what I would have done.

Any other stories?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

That would be pretty creepy, Linda.

Who was it that said I have a poltergeist that takes a particular liking to appliances? Well, you're right. I had forgotten all about this one. About 2 years ago, my husband was just walking in the door from work. It was only about 6:00 pm and we heard a small 'thud' in the kitchen. We both went in and the burner on the stove was on. It's gas. I hadn't cooked a thing on it in two days so I know it wasn't left on. We both just scratched our heads and said, 'huh?". That was weird.

This isn't an old house (17 years) and I bought it brand spanking new so if anyone's ghost is gonna haunt this place it will be mine. Heehee. I'll be the ghost in the garden that says....you can't plant that there or, when you gonna pull those weeds? Better not dig up my sweet olive.

There's a place, not far from here called 'Addick's Dam' or 'Addick's Reservoir'. Well, my mom went out there, as a teen and says she saw strange blue lights floating around. She still gets scared when she talks about it to this day.

(Zone 7a)

Scary about the gas coming on! That could have been bad.

We have few places around here that are said to be haunted. A local Mormon church leader from long ago had several wives. One of them had a house that was moved to a museum type area. They put the house facing a different direction than originally and it's said that her ghost protests the placement.

We have a cemetary that has wierd lights on special nights. I don't remember which ones, though. A woman can be seen, they say, walking to the grave of her daughter and can also be heard crying.

I have a book somewhere that tells about lots of spooky things here. I'll have to find it. There is also a ghost hunter here. He has website where he posts pics of lights and he'll come to your house or place of business and investigate your hauntings.

Glenview, IL

for sure, Knolan..LOL that alone would have me running.

So cute, I can [picture being a garden ghost. LOL

I have also heard of roaming ladies, but usually along road of the cemetary.

Yes, please keep the stories coming.
Golly, last night our power went out and then back on First thing I was thinking was I read to many stories in this thread.
But it happened that we had an electical storm, happen many times and DH was home so I was much calmer. Whew, lol

(Zone 7a)

I usually don't mind the lights going out when I'm alone except, like you, I just read something spooky! LOL
I wander around my house all the time in the middle of the night and nothing bothers me. I've never had a bad experience with a sprit or entity, so why do I get nervous reading about someone else's? LOL

Glenview, IL

Raising Hand, Jumping up and down even...
I know, I know! lol

(Zone 7a)

Well? I'm waiting...(and laughing...)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I was just out in the shed potting up some seeds and I heard the most horrible sounds from the trees ever! Screaming! I think something was robbing a squirrel's nest. Had to be with that kind of screaming. It scared the 'you know what out of me'.

It can get pretty scary out there. I'm at a dead end and my yard backs up to a big open pasture/pecan orchard. In my back yard, the side of the house is where I keep the shed, plant hospital, horse drive-up window and butterfly cage. You can see it all in the picture. But it's very dark back there. No street lights or anything other than my shed light to let me know what's going on (thus the need for my headlamp). I like to go out there at night and do my potting but it can get creepy when all you can hear are the bugs and frogs.....and then the animal screams I heard tonight. Most of the time it's really peaceful but it sure wasn't tonight! It could have been bats or possums, I don't know. whatever it was....those poor squirrels made me cry. I kept shining my light up in those trees but it wouldn't stop.

There's a pond about 400 yards out in the pasture. We've seen baby gators out there. When there's baby gators, there's big gators not too far away. There's also this beautiful antique claw bathtub sitting out there that has been there for at least 15 years. It's not used to fill water for the horses. I want it so bad for a planting but I can;t just take it. But, boy, am I ever tempted.

Ok, I am ok now, but the spookiest thing happened to me this morning.

Once it gets light (full light, don't like the nocturnal animals chasing me) I go for a walk in the woods with the dog. I don't even get dressed first, or take a shower or anything, just grab a jacket or whatever and put it over my flannels and go for a walk. Heck, who is going to see me?

So this morning I decide I am going to ck my trail camera that I set up last Sunday over the ridge. This camera was set in an area where many animals cross to the river and there were many footprints there. Now, this area has a full canopy of cedar trees and is a little dark. It tends to be kind of a spooky area, with owls flying, critters skittering around, trees swaying in the wind, rubbing on each other making squeels and growls. It is just plain spooky.

So, I get to the camera and see that it is not working. mmmm, maybe the batteries are dead. Maybe, it took so many pictures that it killed the battery! Oh boy. So I took the whole camera back to the house and excitedly took out the card and inserted it into my photo frame to view.
Argh! only the two pictures I had left on the card.
Oh, well.

So, I put the card back into the camera and the camera turns on all by itself. mmmm, I flip the switch and now there are 4 pictures, 50% battery life. How can that be?

So, I take the card back out and put it in the photo frame. Ack! I scream, as there are now 2 new pictures of this hideous witch creature, with hair sticking out, squinty eyes, and baring teeth! And she is looking right at me. Wow, it scared me to death!

When I got my wits back, I looked again. Ugh, it was a picture of my face right in the camera. Gee, I need to comb my hair before going out on a walk from now on. With a face like that, I sure don't need to carry bear spray! Ha!

OH My God, I am laughing so hard, almost choked on my muffin. Got tears running down my cheeks.

Holy moly what a great scarey story this morning!!

Thats why Celia, reading the words of other people experiences just reel you in capitvate your sences and you want to know rapidly whats next and then the climax hits.

You all have a fantastic way of writing! I am scared and laugh all at one time...
OMG I can't wait to read that one again!!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

It's usually the birds that scare me when I take a flashlight and look around my country property at night. Vultures that get scared themselves, I guess, and suddenly start flapping their huge wings. Or the owls...then there are also some scary loud screeching noises...animals caught by predators, maybe. The baby rabbits make this really weird noise, calling out to their mom, who can't help them anyway, unless they're just lost.

Glenview, IL

Oh, I get really scared hearing the racoons fighting! Our area is really dark too so when they get into a fight, I can hear them snarling, and howling at each other. I am just glad to never see them doing this.
They are so darned cute but man they are vicious little creatures!

(Zone 7a)

ROTFLOL

I just spent the last five minutes cleaning coffee of the computer screen!!!

And you're right about other peoples words. I'm a sucker for a story. ANY kind of story.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I know what you mean about the animal screams. We have an owl here that screams, also the raccoons, bobcats, etc. There are alot of strange noises in the woods. And then the water fowl. They are always hollering and screaming. Esp this time of year.
Sorry kwanjin about your coffee.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

cpartschick, ROFLOL! Well told and funny too!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks, too bad I deleted the photo, I could have given you all a good scare!

Glenview, IL

Aw Knowlan, that is so sad. My you are brave to be out there at night.
I think I would have done the same trying to see where, because i just get curious at sounds that scare me to death.

Hmm, I guess you don't know who the claw tub belongs to. Would make a beautiful planter.

hahah, celia can't help but laugh while saying sorry about the coffee pffft! I am still laughing over it myself.

ok...So I was telling DH and cousin about this thread and all the stories being told.
DH had one for you all. Now he is a non beleiver of spirits or ghosts until he himself encountered a sounds the other day!

He has been doing some remodeling of a bathroom in the basement of a friend of ours.
He and his partner were working away, while the boys were at school and Mom was at work. They have a parrot who is pretty loud and repeats certain phrases.

Now Mike, the father, passed away last year. He was a giant of a man, soft spoken, lots of fun to chat with. They were having troubles and were in the beginnings of getting a divorse. Mike died suddenly in his mothers garage.
We have been in their house as we were friends and still are.

So this particular day, While DH and partner are working in the basement, with everyone gone the only real noise was the sounds of the tools being used and there own voices. So All of the sudden DH here the door open and heavy footsteps walking across the floor. He askes his partner did you just hear someone come in? The partner Shakes his head yes. So they think it's one of the boys and continue working. They continue to hear the foot steps so DH decides to go up and say hello to whoever came in. Well didn't want to scare whoever was home, so as he is walking up the stairs he's saying, Josh, Joe is that you? Hello. Footstep stop. Dh walks through the kitchen saying Hello anyone home and nothing . He decides to go check the Parrot. So He opens the Door to Bird room. The bird is doing some bird dance going hello bird, hello bird, Bird is the thing in the room, no people. DH closes the door shaking his head thinking Crazy Bird. He calls out again, no answer so figures whoever it was left.
The guys continue with their work when the front door opens and again the footsteps go across the floor. Dh and partner look at eachother and confirm they each heard it again. DH Flies up the stairs two at time calling who's here! No answer, So he starts checking rooms again, this time as he starts for the hallway one of the boys steps out of the bathroom. Both falling backward for scaring eachother to death. Once they calm down Dh asks were you just here half hour ago?
Nope the kid shakes his head, So Dh asked if could have been his brother. No, again he shakes his head and said he was taking some test.
DH then tells him they heard someone come in and walk across the floor and about the bird.
The Kid told DH that they heard footsteps all the time. They didn't know where the Bird picked up that phrase just started saying it one day, when they heard the footsteps. He said they had a ghost.
Later Our friend came home and Dh tells her what happened, She also confirmed hearing footsteps and swears it Mike haunting her for changing the house.

Pretty eerie for DH but, now he figures well it's his house let him walk around. Hasn't heard it again though. Said He'll just say Hey Mike what's up? next time.

(Zone 7a)

Wow! Hope they find out what is happening, if it's Mike. I think he's probably just checking up on their work! LOL

Animal screams are the worst! We have cats that used to fight...IN THE HOUSE!!! AT 3AM!!! LOL

Darn I was hoping some one had posted a new story!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Here's a d-mail I sent to knolan last year...........

About a 2 years ago, I had a nightmare. In it, I was standing at the bottom of the stairs and saw a little blonde-headed boy, about 3, run from the attic across to our bedroom. He looked straight at me. I woke and absolutely couldn't move. It was too real. When we got up, I told my husband about it. The man doesn't dream, so thinks all this is a little boring! My married daughter stopped by and I told her....and she was spooked. 'Said she'd never go upstairs here at night again. Went to get my hair cut a couple of days later and mentioned it to stylist. (I was trying to make light of it because I don't know any blonde boys!) She asked me what we stored in the attic. I told her my aunt died and left me a ton of antiques and I had boxes of "stuff" packed away. She stopped cutting, looked at me, and said, "You need to get rid of that if you want to get rid of the ghost." She said the little boy was connected to something in the attic. Geezzzzzz.......I got home and couldn't make myself open the attic door. When I finally did days later, I noticed that I had a row of old portraits...of old men, tho. Moved them into the garage....during daylight hours! We still laughed about the crazy dream.......
BUT......my daughter finally got pregnant, miscarried, and got pregnant again. My grandson is 10 months now....blonde and I swear, looks like the 3 yr old in the dream. I remain paranoid about him climbing the stairs....That's weird enough, but for the last month, our daughter has been spending days over here because they're having their kitchen remodeled. The baby sits in his high chair and babbles and points to "something" in the liv room by the stairs. My daughter and I are both spooked by this!!! He'll look around anyone who'd blocking his view. From the time the baby could hold his head up, he'd look up at something near the ceilings, and daughter and I would nervously giggle that he could see "the ghost." But now he's 'talking' to something we can't see! I guess I can tell you this because you're a perfect stranger...so I have no fear of ridicule...yet. Anyway, it'll make a cool story to tell the grandson one day about his conversations with the ''ghost in the attic!'' I'm hopeful that he'll tell me one day that he was conversing with the spiders that were on the ceiling because his gramma was too busy playing in the yard to clean!

(Zone 7a)

Wow...That's weird about the dream coming true.

(There ya go, Marie! LOL) I knew somebody would come along if I bumped it up.

I kind of thought these clouds looked like angel wings but all of them came out blurry. Huh...

HI Celia!! I like the Angel wing clouds.

Big bubbles, your story had me tingling. Maybe you dreamed the future.
You didn't say much about the nightmare other than the little boy...Hmmm maybe because it might be a relative, You lil grandson plays with him...As long as his is happy, I wouldn't worry to much but it is very interesting!

(Zone 7a)

I was talking with my husband about this thread and he had a story about his mom.

He says she regularly sees a small boy in her basement. She tries to talk to him but he never answers her. She says he's about ten or twelve and likes to play down there. It's funny because they're the only ones to live in that house. They bought it new in 1950 something.

She also had another story...

Shortly after her husband died in 1978, she had a statue of Jesus sitting on her mantle. One day she was cleaning when she heard a noise coming from the shelf. She turned and the statue was moving. Kind of bouncing back and forth. She got very frightened and fell on hers knees. the Jesus kept moving so she got up and crept close the the statue. After getting up the nerve, she touched the statue. She finally picked it up and...a mouse ran out!!! She had cleaned the statue and remembered earlier having to put it back upright on the mantle. LOL

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Ha, that mouse story is the best yet!!!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Lol that mouse story is great!!!!

heheh, I would have fell to my knees too!

We live in the deep, dark woods in west TN. One summer several yrs. ago, my grandson had come up from LA (lower AL) to spend several wks. with us. Our guest bedroom is at one end of the house and our bedroom is at the other end. About 3:30 AM we hear him screaming in stark terror. We ran to the bedroom to find him cowering under the covers at the head of the bed, up against the wall. He was cryring and shaking like a leaf in a high wind. When we finally got him calmed down he told us that he had felt the bed shake like someone had laid down beside him. When he woke up there was no one there. We had to fix him a pallet on the floor in our bedroom before he would go back to sleep.

He is 20 now, but when he was 18, he was living at their "camp" which is a house at a big pond and went over to his uncle's house to get him up so they could go hunting and found his uncle dead in bed. He had a massive heartattack. Now he will not go into his uncle's house by himself.

Wk.end before last our granddau. (12) was staying over with us. About 3:30 AM she came into the bathroom where I was taking a shower and she was crying. She told me she had a bad dream (in the same bedroom) and would not sleep in there the rest of the night. Had to make her a pallet at the foot of our bed and that is where she slept the rest of the night.

I have slept in that bedroom several times (when I had surgery) and I never had a bad dream. But have felt like someone was holding me down and laying beside me in my own bed. No, not my husband. He was on his side the bed asleep. I simply called for the WATCHERS to watch and my GUARDIAN ANGEL to guard and driffented on back to sleep. LIZ

(Zone 7a)

Wow, Liz, that's very creepy. Do you know who your WATCHERS are?

OMG, holding you down?? Like how? just got goose bumps here.

Kawonkamish(Greetings),

I grew up in a Ranch style, single family home on a quarter acre lot, in a quiet, rural town in Massachusetts. My family is of Native American/Irish descent.
When I was a small child, my sister and I shared a room. The bedroom was a tiny 10 foot by 12 foot room, with two 54 inch by 29 inch windows. The glass panes were 6 over 1 and from outside, the sill is about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. We slept in a bunk bed. She had the top bunk and I had the bottom bunk. It was summer, hazy, hot, and humid. At the time, we did not have air conditioning, so the windows were kept open to let in the breeze. The warm breeze did not help much in cooling down the house. My sister was sitting at the head of my bed, reading a story to me. It was a Little Golden Book. I suddenly felt cold, freezing cold. I felt that I had to look out the window, though I did not want to look out the window, it felt as if I had to. I could not believe what I was saw. There were glowing red eyes, staring in at me. I could not look away from them. Believe me, I tried. The eyes were about 2 feet up from the window sill. They were just staring at me. I get chills just remembering this. It took, what seemed like forever to tear my gaze away. When I did, I rushed to the head of the bed and told my sister to look out the window. When she finally did, the eyes were gone. So what ever it was had to be at least five and a half to six feet tall.
Another time, I was home alone, my parents were out for the evening and my sister was staying over a friend's house. I was sitting in the living room watching TV, when out the corner of my eye, I saw some thing move. I should tell you from where I was sitting, I could see into the bathroom and straight out the bathroom window, out to the backyard. I turned to look, and I saw what looked like a skull, up close to the window, moving toward the back door area. Now for it to be that close to the window, it would have to have been walking in the flowerbed. It would have had to walk over the cellar door, also. I was terrified; I closed my eyes and stayed in that chair all night. I did not move a single muscle.
Another time... I had finally gotten my own room. it is a mirror image of our old room. That night, after having moved into the new room, I felt a presence. Outside my window, there is a 12-inch wide flower garden, then the driveway, which is about 5 feet wide, and next to the driveway was the woodpile. Sitting on top of the woodpile was a white colored apparition. It had extraordinarily long limbs. It was staring in at me. I tore my gaze away from it, after what seemed forever to me, and hid under the covers until morning. My mother found me like that, at the foot of the bed, under the sheet and coverlet. She wondered, how I could breathe under there.
I best stop now. I will write more about my home later.

Kawonkamish,

I just remembered some more stories of my home. All kinds of weird things have happened around the house, day and night. As an example, the basement comes to mind.

I have always been nervous about going into the basement. One day, while I was down there with some friends, we were listening to the "Disney Haunted House" album. It was not a bright move on our part. I will explain more on that later. One of my friends said, she saw a shadow of a man near the stairs, that lead into the house. I went over to her, because where I was standing my view of the stairs was blocked, by a 10 foot by 10 foot cement block, that acts as a base to the fireplace. When I got to her, I looked and saw the shadow of a man in rain slicker and hat, it was like the kind that fishermen wear, standing on what would be the third step of the stairs. I walked around the backside of the block and came around to the left of the stairs. There is a window to the left side of the stairs about ten feet away. There was nothing there to cast a shadow. The only rain gear down there was 12 feet away to the left of the window. It was impossible for it to cast that shadow. Even if somehow it managed to cast it, it would have only been part of the shadow, as the stairs are a switchback. The lower half of the shadow, would have been cut off by the switchback landing. We FREAKED and ran from the cellar, up the outside steps. My Mother came outside and asked, what was wrong. I told her and she insisted I show her, needless to say, I was none to happy about that. We went down cellar, so I could show her, it was GONE. Which freaked me out even more. She gave me a weird look and said that it was alright and that she believed me. I still have the album, but I never played it again.

About that album... What I told you about the basement was not the first time I had dealings with it. The first time I had a problem was after I inherited the album from my brother, when he moved out of the house. I played it for the first time in my bedroom, that I shared with me sister. I had asked my friend if she wanted to listen to it with me. I turned it on and she suggested we pull the shades and get on the bed, pulling the sheet over our heads, so we would be in semi-darkness to enjoy it more. I figured why not and we proceeded to do just that. Not much time later, about the second section of the album, we noticed there was an imprint of a hand on the sheet. Just the hand, no arm attached, or shadow of a person on the sheet. I looked over to see if she was playing a trick on me. I could see both of her hands. One was holding on to a corner of the sheet and the other was at her side. She looked at me and asked if I was doing it; as she was asking, she noticed that I was in the same position she was. It scared us half to death! We threw back the sheet and there was no one there. We proceeded to jump off the bed and race out the room. Unfortunately, I had to go back in to shut off the the record player.

That is all I can think of right now; I will write some more later.

Thank you for your stories, Maccionoadha. Quite frightening! I look forward to more. I thought this thread was forgotten.

Tell your friends to stop by. Lots of people, I'm sure, would like to tell their stories.
