how to keep sweat out of your eyes while gardening

Saint Simons Island, GA

i live in the deep south and find i am constantly having to stop gardening because so much sweat has run in my eyes i cannot see. i have tried terry cloth headbands but the sweat still gets in my eyes. when i try to dry my eyes on a towel they burn (probably from my sunscreen) and i have to go in the house and take drops and rest them before i can continue gardening. this happens the minute it goes over 70 degrees no matter what time of day although it is worse in the heat of the afternoons which i try to avoid. i don't have problems with sweat anywhere else. does anyone else have this problem? a solution? thank you, dooley

I get that problem in the middle of summer, when I'm mowing my grass. I tie a cotton scarf around just above the eye brows. I probably look stupid, but I can't stand the sweat running in my eyes. I really can relate to you, I normally don't sweat alot, except from the head. If I'm just working around the yard, I hang a towel on my clothes line to stop and wipe off.

HI, I use 3 sheets of Brawny paper towel-folded in 4 length wise. It fits around my head and can hold up to being tied. I can then wipe off muddy stuff when I am through.;wrap up plants etc.. Uh, haven't written that up for an ad. I do look strange in my total garden get up, complete with red garden shoes....
I have heard (somewhere) that some folk use anti-perspirant across their forehead, but I haven't tried it yet. Would have to be some Really strong stuff to stop my sweating!!!

I made some headbands using "dry ice" type you purchase at Michaels to put in plants to keep the moisture in ..they absorb about 20 times their size...

Before I go out I set it in water for about 20 minutes and the flat band expands into a soft cold gel band - I simply put it on the line and the crystals dry up and band is flat again...repeat whenever I need to use it...

It's great on a hot/hot day..used for biking, walking etc.

I have two bandannas that I use. That way by having two when one is being washed I can use the other. Just tie them around my forehead, and it catches all the sweat. I sweat a lot.

Old t-shirts cut into strips make good head bands.

The material really soaks up the sweat and you're recycling at the same time. ^_^

Your welcome dooley. Another use for old t's - cut the arms off, them cut a slit down the front (not too far ^_^ and tuck the ends under. This way your arms get tanned to the top. It's amazing how much cooler they are this way.
