The Great Blue Herons are back. They fish in the river and fly low over our house to where they are nesting.

Glad to see the red-bellied snacking on fruit, gp. I put out oranges for orieoles - no sight yet - but, it's near the suet that red-bellieds like. Maybe they will enjoy it.

Cold, windy and just plain nasty here today with a hard freeze expected tonight...hope spring gets here for real... soon!!
Brrrr! I feel for you, Rose. Been in the mid 80's here the past several days so everything is leafing out and all the birds are nesting now. They say we are in for a cold snap tomorrow. Today I have the windows open and I am shooting from the breakfast nook. The rat-tat-tat of the shutter on the Mark III is so loud that it startles the birds, so I am using the 40D which, as you know is pretty quiet.

Found this little Song Sparrow on my walk yesterday!
Beautiful sparrow Dave! Lots of activity at my feeder this a.m. Cardinals, crows, juncos,chicadees, and
I haven't seen any Junco's in the yard now for 2 days. Maybe they have finally headed north! Dark & cold here to today so probly won't get many bird pics today...oh well.

The goldfinches are finally getting their summer colors. Please have patience on this new bird photographer (I know you will). It is too cold to open the windows to get better pictures, and when I try I scare everyone away.

Finally got pics off the old elephant desktop. Here's one from last year. DH teased me endlessly about my wren houses, said he wanted a bat house. Having read too much about bat rabies (sorry bat lovers), I was deadset against it. So wouldn't you know the bats would move into the wren houses and the wrens would nest in the hanging pots.

Wow - what a great a new thread! It is wonderful to see so much spring (in other places)! I did spot a yellow (!) goldfinch this morning. Just pretty against the white snowfall. LOL
Gees, it's hard to keep up with you speedies! I believe I had that same kind of little sparrow at my feeder just a couple hours ago. He was singing his little heart out. I googled "sparrows" and found a match - dare not copy the photo to show you.

I haven't posted much over here. I couldn't get close enough with the old camera, the new one is much better. Now I need to get some practice.
The GoldFinches are pretty much a constant at my feeders. I think the red one is a House Finch (not sure).
Dave: An amazing series of shots. That first one of the Heron is a knockout! But it's the little "Butter Butt" that made me smile.

The weatherman missed again! It was gorgeous out today!
Here is a Downy Woodpecker that couldn't wait for me to go away... She just came right up and started eating while I was a few feet away. I went in, got my camera, came back out and got a few shots.

You all have been busy today since I checked in last and nice to see such a nice variety of birds!
The weather is so windy and cold and DH suggested a ride to an area known for shore birds in wet weather...the trip though nice netted nada for birds. We were a few miles from home and saw a few Eastern Bluebirds in one of the many old cemetaries in our area. Even though the lighting was terrible I couldn't resist snapping off a few.
