Need helps ASAP with massive posion oak breakout

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I am really allergic to this stupid stuff and now I have it all over my arm, boobs, face, neck, legs in my ears and all over my hands.
I really dont want to go to a Dr because of it but my lord this has got to stop.
So far ive been using,
Calagel,
Desoximetsone Cream USP 0.05%,
Just about everything Walmart had for it too.
Some of it is drying up but Ive had it for at leas 2 weeks now.
The itching is driving me MAD.

Hubby is trying to ban me from the woods now but sheesh, thats the only alone time I get.

Help! What can I do? Does Jewelweed really work? How do I use it?

Any good ways you know of to battle this disaster?!

Thanks guys!!

Yeaouch. I Googled poison oak and found some sites that included homemade remedies. Good luck.

Not sure for poison oak but will tell you everyone would call me lulu because my face would be sooo swollen..I'd get shots for it which helped but because of bad kidneys it wasn't advisable, so an elderly indian friend took me to find jewelweek, you'd slit open the stalk, rub the juice on afflicted area and OMG almost by morning it would be gone..even got that when jewelweed was ending it's season, I'd go get some, put a touch of water in a pot, cut up the stalk, leaves and flowers and slowly cook then I'd bottle the juice...

Can't hurt to try it..

This indian friend told me that the good Lord always puts the remedy within feet of the problem weed..

Your good friend seems like he/shes right. I gotta make sure I get a good ID before ID apply some.
Thanks guys!!

For cases as sever as your's you need to get a doctors prescription for
Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.1%. Larina is highly allergic too.

So sorry! You sound miserable!
Have you tried Benadryl? I've never had an allergic reaction to anything like that so other than Benadryl and over the counter steroid creams or balms, I don't know what to suggest. Maybe some oatmeal soaks? Watch that they don't become infected. You may then have to go to the doc.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

No I havent tried Benadryl. If the oatmeal doesnt work ill get hubby to buy some.
I have been keeping them clean and using an ointment to keep from an getting an infection. :-)
Crossing fingers here lol.

Just discovered this web site today and saw your plea for help. I have discovered that
using Monastat 7 on my poison ivy helps me more than anything, and I have tried a little
bit of everything during my lifetime. Hopefully, by now you have gotten rid of the worst of it. Good Luck.

I keep witch hazel in the fridge to smear over itchy poison oak. I don't think it stops anything but the itching though. Very soothing, cold witch hazel. Great for stopping sunburn too.

Thanks alot guys!! :-)

tea tree oil has given me relief but you probably need to dilute it if you have sensitive skin - in all honesty, you need to go to a doc - when you have a break out as serious as you describe you need the big stuff to get out of it - I've suffered from that for years and over the counter meds don't touch it - jewelweed is ok for a slight outbreak - I now go to a dermatologist for the big outbreaks.

Luckilly the poison oak is going away! lol
Thanks for your concern. ^_^

Well please forgive me I forgot all about this.

I have found a large section of poison oak in the woods we have and Larina is highly allergic and Robin remembered the pharmacist telling her about a product that is supposed to be very good.

Its called tecnu. There is also a good website on the subject of poison ivy, oak and sumac. Contains both facts and myths about them and how to handle the problems associated with it.

This is a very good site! Lots of reading to do but I strongly suggest you do.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hehehe, what's the link?

Id love to see some of the myths involved.
I use tecnu, it's good stuff. ^_^
Thanks!!

Well yet another update with some new info.

It's called Ivy Block. It's before you get poison ivy, oak and sumac and treatment after. Pretty wild I got the Ivy Block for Larina before she goes up into the woods. According to the web site there was only one place in North Texas that sold it but on a long shot I asked the pharmacist at Albertsons if they had it. One of them looked at me as if I was stupid but the other pharmacist hauled butt for a deep dark corner of the pharmacy and came out carrying it.

The Ivy Block is applied 30 minutes before you go into the woods, depending on how allergic you are it will either keep you from getting an out break or lessen its severity. They also have an instant itch relief lotion as well as a treatment. I haven't had occasion to use any of it yet, but its FDA approved.

Forgot the link, dang I'm getting old. :)

Get a can of REPEL bug spray and spray away. If you get red bug bites or skeeter bites or tick bites, it works wonders on the itching. Stops it cold. LIZ
