Nice to see you back with some lovely peonies! Mine don't even have any buds yet.
It's always good to have someone around to share our flowers with!
My climbing roses have started to bloom.

Roses, roses roses, so lovely yet not ever had much success with them in my garden. I still have one bush standing, but it concerns me every year.
soilsandup, don't you just love the tree peonies. My yellow one is just coming into bloom. That is great to have plants just for the purpose of cuttings. I try to do that with annuals every year, but have found that each year I "cut" back a little more.
Terri your climbing roses are headed to that deep blue sky, what a perfect backdrop.
Will be watching for more.

So much for the blue sky, it's been cloudy and raining since then!
I don't give the roses any special treatment! I think they like my soil, which is clay, but I have added fresh compost to improve it over the years.

Red valerian

All of this rain is making a lot of my gardens very lush, but for the tropicals they are drowning, wish I had kept them inside a few more weeks.
Your jasmine is really full. Mine lost all leaves and looked a bit finished but is starting to perk up, don't think it will be as full as in years past.
The red valerian is one of my favorites and I like it a lot in arrangements as it lasts forever, we call it jupiter's beard, have you heard that ?

Ornamental rhubarb is thriving in all this wet and for once it is not eaten alive by bugs.

Love the ornamental Rhubarb! I have the edible type, unfortuneately the snails have eaten most of it and it looks dreadful! Everything is looking good in your garden Candee.
My first sweet pea this year for you dear!! Hope yours flowers too.

Candee, you have the neatest plants. . .dappled willow, cytissus, etc! You know I can't get enough of the peonies. They are such expensive cut flowers that I have never ever bought any to arrange. Once I worked with a silk one, but that doesn't count!

Terri, thanks for this thread. It's hot hot hot here, all my plants are cooking. Enjoy the weather where you guys are!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks for sharing Terri, least now I'll know what to look for in the pea section. They do seem to be thriving, so will have to get a little trellis for them or something.
Karma, I do like the unusual. Have you ever seen the dracuncula vulgaris? I started these from seed from Greece and they are quite spectacular and not nearly as pungent in odor as some think.

I thought dutchman's pipe vine was cool. This is way kewl. What is the spiraling foliage around it?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Not sure exactly what you are referring to karma. Those palmish leaves with white veins are the leaf stalk that the flower comes on. The flower is the purple leaf, it unfurls and the spathe is inside. I originally liked it so much when I saw Dimitri's here on DG, he lives in greece so I got a tuber, then Dimitri sent me seeds and I had 3 before I knew it. I like the leaf as it reminded me of a type of palm leaf, the unfurled leaf and spathe was just a bonus. The flies love it when it first opens as it has an unpleasant odor, not too noxious but enough that you would not want it as a houseplant or under an open window.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Candee, yes, it's the palmish leaves with white veins. The ones at the lower right in front of the flower looks like it's growing in sort of a spiraling fashion like spiral ginger. The foliage is awesome alone. I see it coming up in the background too. I guess since it's a tuber, it spreads? Lucky you!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Yep that is it, if you look at the webpage you can see the seed pod that it generates. I have passed along the seed here at DG in years past but never heard if others ever had success. It was the foliage that first caught my attention. It has not really spread much as I had one plant and then added seed in another area and each of those has expanded but as you can see from the webpage in years past I have had the spathes reach 36" in length and recent years they are only about 20-24" and not nearly as many, only had 2 this year? Not sure why.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Nice webpage, Candee. The spathes and seedpods are really weird looking. I would enjoy the foliage alone.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

thanks Karma, it is an odd species. Now I need to go look up dutchman's pipe!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Just did, wow another really kewl tropical. Will have to look for one of them. Thanks for the tip!

I'm surprised you don't have one already!
