Has anyone metioned the Southern Appalacian Roundup to on May 3rd? All are welcome to come LMK if you need the link

How far are you from Charlotte?

Reidsville, NC

I'm in zone 7a. I am about 2 hours from Charlotte. I have a son at Davidson College (about 20min. from Charlotte). We go there quite often. I love roses mostly. I have planted around 250 ++++ roses in the three years we have been at our current location.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Hello LB! Welcome. Love your Bleeding Heart. Mine must've cacked. No sign of it at all. :( sigh.

I've been out of touch. Hadn't heard about the pending temperature disaster! Ohhhh noooo!
It's all out there and I can't possibly cover everything. Argggh!

Calla lilies are starting to bloom. Seems the trick to these is to grow them in complete shade. News to me, maybe not to you. I guess there are different colors, have to see what I can get. Nice to brighten up a dark corner.

For those of you who don't have live oaks. New leaves aren't out yet but a nice looking tree if you have 300 years to wait.

I'm with you Deb, I've killed many a bleeding heart, I don't think it can be grown in the lowcountry (at least that's what I tell myself.) ;*>

Here's a pic of my baptisia (Carolina Moonlight) with weigela in the background.

Here's a little plant I bought at Plant's Delight last year, Nierembergia gracilis 'Starry Eyes'. I found some locally, but it wasn't the same variety of the plant, although it looked similar. The local one bit the dust by mid summer where as this one kept on blooming and has come back.

One of the indigoferas. This one is a bit of a garden thug, but it's so pretty I tend to let it do what it wants...

Is indigoferas a native plant? I think I have one one of those growing in my "wild" section.

Seabrook, SC(Zone 8b)

Most the indigofera that I'm aware of are from China. They look a lot like wisteria, but the blooms are pink, usually smaller plants, and shrubby instead of vines. I would call them thugs instead of flat out invasive like the Chinese wisteria.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Maybe you haven't had your indigofera long enough Jenny; mine, after 8 years, is an invasive thug and it just snickers at Round Up.
Love your nierembergia tho.......

Clemmons, NC

Ladies,

I love all of the beautiful flower pictures! I have never heard of, or seen 90% of them before!

I am sure that I couldn't pronounce (or even remember how to spell) most of them, but I love to look at the pictures!

I have been absent from DG for several months, but I am trying to catch up on all of my favorite topics!

It is good to be back!

Pat

That is the prettiest pink dogwood I have seen in years.

Thanks ardesia This year it has looked it's best.

surfside beach, SC(Zone 8b)

I wonder if "my mountains" are also in bloom. We are North of you and usually the dogwoods wait until May along with the mountain laurels.I will be up there (NC TN border outside of Boone) in 2 weeks.

Your pink dogwood is beautiful!I'm happy that nothing was damaged by the latest weather. We don't plant anything new until after mother's day.

Here at the beach so much is blooming and I'm in heaven.I just love April.

Andrews, NC(Zone 6a)

Seems like things are a couple to 3 weeks behind us up in that area. I have friends in West Jefferson and they said things are just now starting to show signs of life.

Very cool Deb! I noticed my Stellas were opening, too. They're such a happy plant. My favorite daylily from the last few years is one called 'Buttered Popcorn.' It's like Stella on steroids. It's a HUGE reblooming yellow monster of a daylily. Love it! I'll take a pic when it gets going.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Jenny, Buttered Popcorn is my all time favorite DL and for some reason I don't have any here at this house. I remember it as being in bloom all the time, especially late in the season.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Jenny: I got my first Buttered Popcorn last summer. It's all leafed up and ready to go. I seem to remember it being more mid-late season, as Ardesia says. Looks like it has multiplied just a bit. I'm a sucker for yellow daylilies. Another one that is a good long bloomer is "Big Time Happy". It's a paler yellow.

Rednyr: Beautiful clematis.. Looks alot like one that I have called "Violet Charm"?

Deb

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Deb - it's a wally world clearance find....I am unsure what it is...but I know one thing - its my fav color LOL

all this talk of buttered popcorn is making me want some LOL

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, whatever it's called, it's my favorite color, too. ;->

I'm not really a rose person (too much trouble) but here are a couple that are very trouble-free here.

Rosa mutabilis - grows very fast, no problems with black spot. Flowers change color as they age. No fragrance though.
