Susan: Pretty Streps in your first two photo's and YES, that one you said Dimmer/Kim sent you is most definitely a Chirita .... and I see it's about to bloom! Hope you will post a pic of that one when the bloom stands up and opens!

Oooh, nice Begonia too ... I've never grown them from leaves!

Susan,

Your first and second pictures are both streps and yes....Sylvia is BEAUTIFUL!
Your 3rd picture is a Chirita and I believe could be Kazu
The last picture......I'm having a hard time making out but I believe it might be a Chirita. Does it have fuzzy leafs like an AV or are the leaves smooth?

Susan: That one you ask if it is an AV or what could possibly be a Chirita too. The leaves don't quite look like AV to me but my eyesight isn't all that great.

Sally: What Chirita is that in your photo? Lovely! Most seem to have that lilac/lavender color - a couple have yellow flowers ... wish someone could come up with a red flowered one!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

It has smooth leaves and no fuzz... I did not post the picture of the leaves Kim gave me...

Lin..........I have ALL KINDS of leaves down and that is my LONG term goal is to try to hybridize Chiritas :)
I have fallen head over heals for Chiritas BIG TIME :)
I thought I was going to be a streptoholic but I don't think it's going to go that way for me *lol*
I know people say Streps are easy but I'm finding them alot more challenging than I thought they would be *lol*

Wow Susan - you're doing great!
I especially love that Sylvia! Great coloration- looks kinds purple and bronzy gold? Is that right?
I've never worn glasses or anything and went yesterday to the eye doctor because I noticed my sight was worse. He said I had a stigmatism ? or astigmatism whichever and also needed BIFOCALS! I went form feeling semi-young to well not so young in under an hour! I asked for contacts and I think I saw better without them! Everything is blurry. ANyway, that was a long way to my question! - Do I have the color right on Sylvia? LOL

I can't believe I learned how to do this!

Don't worry. I have astig. and bifocals too. Doesn't take long before you need the bifocals. I am fine with it because you cannot see the line in the glasses! I am also just happy to have glasses that help us see well. I tried contacts, but they are not good with astig. especially since I get very dizzy easily with my Chronic Fatigue, etc.

(Zone 1)

LOL Diane! I don't know your age but you are fortunate to have never had to wear glasses or corrective lenses! I've been wearing contact lenses since the mid 70's. I'm down to just one in my left eye. My correction is for distance. I don't have my lens in right now and things across the room are a blur. I have to have it in when I'm driving ... have a restriction on my drivers license for corrective lenses. Thing is, when I have my contact in I need reading glasses to see to read! I tried the bifoca/monovision contacts and could not get use to them. My correction has always been for distance - even before contacts when I wore glasses in my 30's. So, I've been so used to having that great, clear, sharp distance vision ... they take away a little of that to compensate for the up-close vision and it really throws me!

I am in need of a vision exam ... haven't been in a couple of years - just haven't run out of lenses. I'm as bad about not trusting eye docs as I am about other docs! A few years ago I had an eye doc (optometrist) say I had an astigmatism in one eye and he gave me a rx for new contacts. I kept having vision problems that went on for months, so hubby talked me into going to the MD eye doc he had been to. He said he detected absolutely no astigmatism whatsoever, and changed my rx. Also charged it to insurance as medical (said he removed a stye from my eye) ... what a crock! I had no stye on my eye! Sometimes makes me sooo mad! All about $$$. And, don't get me wrong ... I don't mind paying for services rendered but to me there's a lot of insurance fraud out there nowadays which makes insurance rates rise. I would never go back to him, took awhile to straighten it out with insurance, otherwise we would have had to pay much more out of pocket cause I had not met my deductible for medical insurance yet. Hubby changed eye doctors after that too.

I am wondering why your vision is blurry? Contacts should give you clear vision. It's either the wrong rx or they are in inside out (don't laugh, it's happened to me before) or it could be if the rx in each eye is different, you have reversed them (right lens is in left eye, left lens in right eye). I've done that before too! Hope it all works out for you.

WOW, "winner" doctors, that is too bad!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Lin- I do feel lucky to not have had to wear glasses until my ripe old age of 43- probably needed them sooner!- but that's not what counts!LOL
Could you not wear the bifocal lenses because they made your vision blurry? I do know about the inside out thing. Happened just today. All 3 of my kids wear glasses or contacts. Today when I told my daughter that they were bothering me she had me take them out and show her. She got a good laugh at me because one was in backwards. I don't know if I'm just being a baby or not since I didn't start out wearing glasses but went straight to contacts. I just went to Wal-MArt and bought some drops that seemed better on the way home but I'm back to blur now!
All I know is that I was supposed to wear them 2hours the first day(yesterday) 4hours today and six tomorrow, then all day after that. Well the all day,Tues, I have to work so I'd better be able to see by then!

(Zone 1)

Diane: I have heard that some folks have difficulty when wearing lenses for the very first time. But, I don't understand the blurry vision. I used to have a major problem with blurriness and dry eyes and was constantly having to put drops in my eyes! I could be driving down the street and be fine one minute and then all of a sudden my vision was blurry! Not to the point that I couldn't see at all but it was aggravating! Finally a couple of years back the doctor changed my lenses. I have always worn Accuvue but I guess there are different kinds of Accuvue ... the ones I wear now are Accuvue Advanced with Hydraclear and I have not had to use drops in more than two years since I started wearing this kind of lens.

You are not being a baby ... contact lenses are foreign objects that you are putting in your eyes and some people have a hard time getting used to them at first. I have been wearing them for so many years that I immediately know when I have put one in backwards cause it "feels" like something is in my eye. When do you have to go back to the eye doc again? I know usually they want to check after you've been wearing them a few weeks. Hope you are not having the blurriness when you have to work on Tuesday!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I tried on and off for over 3 months 20 years ago and could not wear contact lenses...

(Zone 1)

I've been wearing them for 30 years and can't imagine going back to glasses.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

They didn't say anything about a follow-up appt. And I have no clue what kind of contacts I got! Yep- totally clueless! They gave me a pair that I walked out wearing and then I went to a store and ordered more contacts which will be in sometime later this week. I hope I can wear them as I bought a 6month supply! I want to get glasses too but contacts were less expensive so I'll get glasses later. OR maybe sooner ..... Huh Gail?! If I have the same problem as you?
Oh and my eyes...I was near-sighted in one and far-sighted in the other, which I thought was rather wierd but what else would I expect from me?! LOL

(Zone 1)

That is really weird but maybe it's something new nowadays ... I have never heard of a doctor prescribing contact lenses without having you wear the "sample" or first pair for a week or so and then having you come back in so they can check your vision with them again after you've worn them awhile. Even when I changed the type of lenses I was wearing he had me come back a week later to check them. I guess maybe technology has changed so that isn't required anymore? But, if in a couple of weeks you are still having blurred vision, even if it comes and goes - you should call the doctor and go back in. Don't know where you bought your lenses from but they should exchange them for a different kind if the dr changes the prescription. As long as the boxes aren't open and you have your receipt there shouldn't be a problem exchanging them.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I never have problems with my eyes as long as I use an MD. Only one time did I use an optometrist and ended up having to throw the glasses away and get back to my regular eye doctor.
