Rain, now I know why I gave my petrocosmeas away . You have that growing in a very shallow pan, don't you? I had mine all in 4" pots and when the leaves would hit the rim they would start breaking.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Amazing Blooms Gail! I Love them all. That one strep from seed with the white throat is awesome..oh heck..they all are...lol.. I couldn't pick a favorite..all are stunning : ))

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Can you believe Rain grew that petrocosmea you sent her and has those blooms everywhere???? Makes me jealous as I kill them on a regular basis. When I get through the month of April, I promise you a white throated strep like that one from seed. I think the streps I grow from seed are so much stronger but maybe it is just my imagination.....

(Zone 1)

That name Crinkle Blue sure fits the look of that plant, Gail.

And ^_^ Yes, I love Berry Splash, berry, berry much!

(Zone 1)

Remembering John is one of the Prettiest Strep's I've ever seen. That has got to be my 2nd favorite after Spiritual Corridor!

Yeah, where is Kim? Sure hope all is okay ... Hey Miss Kim, we miss you! ^_^

missing too: Bmedel, Starfly, SnowRose, Rose318, and a few more who haven't posted in quite awhile now!

Well wishes going out to all.

South, TX

WOW Gail! Gorgeous flowers!!!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh Gail..I know Rain sure has much better luck with the petrocosmeas than I do.She can bring them back from the brink of death literally!!! Hers just seem to bloom and bloom and mind just putter a few blooms out now and then....I must find out her secrets to growing them!!...woo hoo... I would love one of those white throat streps!!

Lin...I know what you mean I always get concerned too when I haven't seen them post for quite sometime.Hopefully everyone is well......

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I do know that someone (not me) got some seeds from BMedel so she is somewhere. She gave me a leaf of King of Kings and said that her son wanted one but she hadn't had any luck in propagating the largest of the streps. I have one for her but she didn't answer my dmail so I am just holding on to the plant until her weather warms up.

I miss all these people and wish they would come back. Has anyone heard from Snowrose? I emailed her several times and I never got a response........

I sent Brenda a card through the regular postal mail a few days ago. I told her we all miss her. I had hopes that she would come on if only long enough to say hi. Maybe she will. She's busy, I'm sure.

Gail, I grow my Petrocosmeas in those clear 9 oz dixie cups, not in a shallow pan. I'll go take a picture of them on the stand just like I grow them.

MullettMan, your EverGrace is absolutely beautiful! That has always been one of my favorite AVs. You're doing a fabulous job with all the Gessies!

I took the pictures but didn't have the card in my camera so I'm having to move them. Will take me a minute... I took a picture of Shoshone, too. I'm so happy with that AV!!!

While I waited, I looked at all your pictures, Gail. I adore Streps! I think your white-throated seedling is one of my all-time very favorites, though! ^_^

Here's where I grow my Petrocosmeas.

Now y'all get me here chattin' and you leave! LOL You'll have to ignore my dusty blinds. I can't get back there to clean them. I'm going to have to move the entire stand to be able to clean them, and to be honest, I'm not in a big rush to do that. LOL

Here's a top view of the Petrocosmeas.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

This is AV Shoshone. I cannot help but adore it, with the cupped leaves and red backs. It's just gorgeous! First AV I've ever grown in an actual self-watering pot (I had a homemade one out of a Sprite bottle once. LOL), and it seems to be doing great!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

This is a horrible picture, but I have to show it because I'm so excited. Shoshone has more buds! Can you see them? One on the left and one on the right. I'm thrilled! Thank you so much for sending it to me, Gail!

I really love your petrocosmeas, Rain..................I can't figure out why the leaves start breaking once they hit the edge of the pot and hang over the edge. I notice yours aren't over the edge yet............please keep us informed as to what happens at that point.

Guess what, Rain! The tiny tiny sinningias you sent me are still alive and the others are in a wine glass just growing away...........you packed them in spaghnum moss in a medicine bottle cap and it protected them so well that they are thriving...........will take a picture tomorrow as I know you probably can't believe it!!!

That picture looking down on the petros makes me sick (LOL)
They are just fabulous looking...........

jannich, have you been able to keep the ones alive that i sent you????????????? We haven't heard from you lately. I will hassle you on your email for a while!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Amy..Your petrocosmeas are absolutely wonderful looking! They really..REALLY...seem to love you!...all the plants on your stands look Great!! Dust..What Dust??LOL..you wanna see dust stop by my place : O

Oh..I have a Shoshone gail sent me last year as a baby and I agree the foliage is awesome.I potted it up to a larger pot a few weeks back and I should be seeing blooms soon too : )

Gail, I don't know why the leaves would break. Most of the show plants I see have lots of leaves over the edge. Then again, I don't know why they're doing so well for me. I don't baby them or do anything special for them, other than that I always water them from the bottom. There's really no way to top water without breaking leaves.

Those tiny Sinns are Sinningia pusilla. Despite how small they are and how fragile they look, they're tough as nails. I knew you wouldn't have a bit of trouble with them! Can't wait to see the picture! Are they blooming yet? They're mature. They came out of the community bowl. LOL Here's a picture of it. Yours came out of the bare spot at the front of the bowl. See all those seedlings coming up in the back? LOL

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Thanks, Nancy! How is the 'Momo' baby I sent to you? And did the leaves from the others put up babies? They're slow to start, but once the babies come up, they grow like weeds!

Dust is awful here! I can see it in that picture, so I know you can! LOL Of course, there's plenty of dog hair to add a little texture... LOL

Shoshone had a bud when Gail sent it and it's just beautiful with that red bloom and being able to see the red leaf backs. :o)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Yes!! I have babies!!!....Aren't they the cutest little buggers..To the left we have HT-2 and on the right we have Rosettifolis(sp?) I actually was able to get 4 total out of the leaves : )) Not the best pic but thats the best i could get tonight.....Baby momo has grown up beautifully and should bloom this spring. Thanks so much for sharing them with me!!.I will need to wait til tomorrow to snap a pic of momo..its on the stand in by birdys room and they are nighty night already and don't want to scare them out of their feathers with my flash ; o

Edited to add::: Must be getting late I forgot to attach the pic..LOL..see next post please..jeepers!!

Oh Amy, I Love your Pet's! They are really happy and healthy looking. I wish I had bought Momo last year. I will have to check and see if it's still on Rob's site. If I remember right (which is doubtful nowadays) ^_^ the only one I have P. barbata was a freebie plant from when I ordered something else.

I think I see a few beginning blooms on those little Sinningia's in that community bowl! I just love the mini's ... I need to see if there are more mini's besides the pusilla and rio das pedras that I have. I can't remember who it was that grows so many Sinns. Was it MrsBonnie? hmm ... I think it was. And, I think she posted about the different sizes. I need to go back and search for that thread and write down what she said - I am so bad, if I don't write something down I will not remember it five minutes later. Ain't old age wonderful? ^_^
