I looked for a forum that might discuss this but I didn't see one. I apologize if this isn't the correct place to post. I wear my Crocs in the garden on a daily basis. What I love is that they are lightweight, cool, easy to rinse off, and easy to slip on and off. What I don't like is that I am constantly getting soil in the little ventilation holes and invariably water afterward and my feet are quite often muddy. Has anyone found the perfect gardening shoe?
Annie
is there a perfect gardening shoe?
i wear rubber boots because after wearing sandles all the time i got my foot infected last year--it really hurt a lot and i never want to go thru that again--but it might be miserable in the hot summer and might have to rethink it then!
I wear old grubby tennis shoes.
I wore camping shoes: closed on top and rubber soles. I thought they were perfect until my ankle was sore from lack of support. I use old tennis shoes now too.
I wear my old worn Reeboks, I like to have my feet protected, besides they are cushioney and keep my feet from getting tired.
I wear a light weight pair of New Balance walking shoes. I have ligament damage in one ankle, and they provide good support. When they get extremely dirty, I throw them in the washer and dryer (on low heat), which may be a bad thing, but I have had this pair for a couple of years and they are still going strong.
yep grubby tennies here too!
Mine are New Balance too. When my grubby pair get too bad, my "good" shoes become my grubby ones and I have to buy new ones. About every 3 years or so.
rocket dogs here
had to look that one up. cool shoes.
Crocs all the way here. Normal Crocs and I have a pair of the Croc flip flops. I ruined my old Sketchers in the garden and have since bough a new pair. I made a pinky promise with myself not to wear them in the garden ever again.
lol i have forgotten and worn my new tennies. I always wear socks with my tennies and man they get dirty out there!
I tried Crocs and didn't like the dirty feet feeling. I tried the solid toe rubber, but no support. I wear a pair of New Balance that are backless now. I get the support, no muddy toes, and I can slip them off and on easily when having to go in the house.
I didn't even know that they made backless New Balance. I will look for those. I have also heard they make a "work" form of the Crocs that supposedly are fully covered front and back, I believe they are designed for hospital workers. I haven't found any of those in the stores, though. Has anybody seent them?
Crocs without the holes. I almost never wear anything besides Crocs.
I found the backless NB at Academy, but when those became my gardening shoes I had to get Dr. Schoall's (Walmart). I like both of them because they have a slight heel that helps keep them from slipping.
AnnieJo, you'd probably have to go to their web site, http://www.crocs.com/
Under products, they have a work products line.
um, why are we all up so late? I wear a pair I bought last summer at Sam's Club/Costco. Slip on with nice tread and completely waterproof. In fact, I went back and bought four more pair -- hopefully, a lifetime supply. No wet feet. Just make sure you wear socks. Also, you might wanna sprinkle some powder between your toes, cause the shoes tend to make your feet sweat. But, I could wear them all day and night, too.
2 pair of crocs. one for Sunday and one for the rest of the week.
Pink pearlized on Sunday. Bright orange the rest of the week.

Crocs (reminds me, gotta get another pair). Sure I get dirty feet, and curse the occasional rock or stick that gets inside of them, but I look forward to the cool, refreshing rinse from the hose on my hot, tired feet at the end. :)
Crocs (both with the holes and without, depending on the weather) - unless shoveling and such is involved, then I have a pair of old sneakers with sturdy soles waiting. I sometimes get a little splinter on the sole of my foot, but then it's a good excuse to sit down and take a break. And I LOVE the way I can "water" my feet if I get hot - it's so refreshing to hose my feet off and not have to worry about wet tennies and socks. Yep, my feet get dirty as all get-out - I just use a pumice stone on my feet and all the dead skin and dirt come right off. Then it's lotion, sockies - and another pair of Crocs! (My sis gave me a pair of the fleece-lined Crocs for Christmas, I think I've worn them the entire time since I unwrapped them.)
Yeah, crocs aren't so good for shoveling. But that is what teenage sons are for...muahaha.
ROTFLMAO!!! Yep, with me it's an 11 year old nephew who likes to show off his biceps :)
No single "perfect gardening shoe" here...
A pair of Crocs when I am in and out ~ can slip them on and off (bright blue here LouC ~ LOL)...
A pair of lace up workboots when digging or rocking or... serious stuff...
A pair of sandals when it is sweltering and the feet want fresh air...
A pair of rubber boots for pure D mucking...
And an older pair on NBs relegated to walking and working outdoors. That aren't camera shy, even when they should be!
What self respecting girl would have only ONE pair? LOL
Dmj ~ do you garden in the Rocket Dogs with heels? LOL They are cute!
no, actually I have the ugly (but superbly comfortable variety)--lol
like these but blue:

Snazzy! Fortunately my friends are saved ~ them dogs aren't available in my generous shoe size! LOL
Argghhh! It is a "cult" thang and I can't be part of it!!!! GRrrrrr....
Sugar ~ a 12 beats your 10... sorry... That does narrow down my choices in style but age has made me lean toward comfort. They are cute though.
I have really small feet, I guess...mine are 6.5. My 19 year old daughter got me started on these, they were by the door and I could slip them on fast and run out the door quickly--she wears the same size shoe. I also like vans--usually I grab whatever is near the door.
I am just blessed with "lots of understanding"... or as my MIL used to say, I'd be really tall if so much of me wasn't turned under in foot.
And, doesn't anyone go barefoot?
LOLOL podster! It took me a while to figure that one out. Duh!
I wear my 'neon' green crocs for disco dancing after all have gone to bed.
It's very enlightening. Works well for gardening too.
Knolan ~ Disco dancing? Crocs and dancing would make me fall flat on my face. As comfy as they are, they don't slide and shuffle well.
It's very enlightening.
Another one of those nights for you? Another one of those AMs for me...
I feel the need for another pair of shoes comin' on. Rocket Dogs? hhhhhmmmm.
Hey Pod, my daughter has had shoe trouble since she left lace up high tops. Extra wide size 12 as a grown lady. She also has hands that will cover two notes over an octave and plays the piano like a dream. Had she not decided being married was the way to go she was working on a professional musical career. Always reminded her, our maker is her architect. Never question His wisdom. She would have been mighty off balance with large hands that were for her God given talent and small feet to go with them.
She once told me she had come to terms, had seen someone in a wheel chair and she said to me "Momma, just thank God for feet".
Whoops, sure didn't mean to write and essay this morning.
Aloha,
PK
Old tennies when digging or out near the roses. Way too often I just slip into some flip flops or go barefootin. Kids and neighbors gripe at me for mowing without shoes, but ever since I was a kid, I never miss an opportunity to get out of my shoes, lol. I did bum a pair of mismatched crocs from a fellow DGer who shall remain nameless, and I liked them when it wasn't too hot or wet, but apparently one of my dogs liked them too.
Gardening clogs from Targe', $14.95. Like Crocs but no holes.
I have 3 pair; grubby gardening, light gardening and everyday around-town and "good"ones for rainy days at the car lot (my "real" job)!
LouC ~ loved the essay! Life is all in how you look at it! Every so often we all need a reminder...
Dawnin ~ the young kiddos around here were intentionally wearing mismatched Crocs. They would each buy a pair in different colors and then swap one Croc. You were on the cutting edge ~ LOL
"Dress" clogs for work ~ hmmmmm
Had a friend in my mid-forties. We would purchase earrings and divide them. Both of us wearing one of each pair. We set a trend at the Dallas Apparel Mart.
Boy! Those were the days!
