Who named these birds?!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 16
Sarah, I'm just thrilled to see your little blooms! That bodes well for our return in May! I was afraid we'd find the place still under several feet of snow!! Very pretty little fleurs!!
- That kind of water is dangerous, looks serene but the current can sweep you away!
- Thanks sjms & Donnie, cant wait till I can bring them all outside. ☺
- Yes Pixie (Celeste), hope you feel better soon, my DW just got over an ear infection last month - it wiped her out for a week and she NEVER gets sick! She had to take antibios too!
- Victor I think it was someone wearing Elton John glasses.
"it wiped her out for a week and she NEVER gets sick"...thats me and it's true. I never get sick and it wiped me off my feet.
Sarah, what is that in bloom?
Black pine on the right - has lots of training to go, Juniper nana in front and 5 needle pine in the rear (looks like medusa's hair) ☺
Lovely pic sjms, nice colors!
At least I was in the right genus! Never heard of 5 needle pine.
They're not easy to find! Almost as hard to find as a real purple finch! ☺
So I assume it really has six needles then...
Sarah is that Bethelehem Sage?
Cold tonight ~ 35 degrees already. It's supposed to be a wintery mix tomorrow, hopefully turning into rain later in the day.
I'm already looking forward to Tuesday when the temps are supposed to be near 60. Yeah, Spring!
phew, finally got here (one is in constant danger of being distracted on DG hmm, and elsewhere actually too...)
That is a self seeded close to species kind of pulmonaria... a kind that has no spots, and the bluest of blue flowers.. but it isn't looking like itself yet, because it is so early still- and even has sort of pinkish flowers right now.. I'll post another picture in a few days. Sarah
WC2, those are fine looking bonsai. I've never been terribly successful but am making a valiant attempt with a couple of bougainvillea and a portulacaria sprig.
I thought the blooms looked like pulmonaria, but then I looked at the foliage. Mine (longifolia) has the nicest blue blooms.
This one is angustafolia-ish-, but it is a seedling of who knows which parents..
Bethelehem Sage, Pulmonaria, Lungwort what ever you want to call it, I like it cause it gives a shaded area nice color in the spring. I have 'Raspberry Splash' and can't wait to see it bloom!
Beautiful, WC! Who's the little stowaway? Rain is heading here too. Two soggy days on tap.
Nice one!!
A little dwarf hosta which I admired from a neighbor which I once had. She was nice enough to give it to me when she moved. ☺
- Thanks Booj ( this one is really challenging because of the thin bark).
love that.... I am looking for a softer needled one... not really sure what i want yet though
Japanese larch has soft needles but they're not easy, lots of pruning and you have to let it dry out a little from time to time. Dawn redwoods have soft needles but you have to redefine it every year because they loose all the needles and branches. If a lower branch stays you have to make sure you want it there because it will branch out from itself and get thicker. Dwarf Cypress is another soft needle, it has nice red color on the trunk and an airy feel to it. ☺
Beautiful bonsai, WC, and a great backdrop to your photo.
38 and rainy. Can you use deodar cedar, WC?
Love all the pics of birds, blooms and bonsai. It is a cold steady rain here this am. Not much wind. Dreary at 34 degrees.
Hello Everyone from the downeast Maine coast.
We like to call it "Perpetual Springtime" here. Today is going to be 46F, and 30's for the night. We almost never go over 75F in the summer, and have lingering 40's at night all summer. Heavy clay soil, slugs galore, salt spray, oh lordy, BUT the clearest sunshine on so many days!
Hello there, back atcha!!
I saw today that you are a new subscriber. Welcome to the NEG forum of friends, fiends, flora and fauna, and all things fun!!

Hi Elisabeth! That doesn't sound too bad. How cold do you get in winter?
Right off the ocean......cold! LOL
But the water usually has a moderating effect on the actual temp. Just doesn't feel that way!
No, to me its a raw damp kind of cold that goes right to your bones.
How far are you from the ocean, Celeste?
Welcome Elisabeth. We're glad to have you with us.
I'm only 30-35 miles from the Ocean.
Thanks pirl.
Yes they can Victor but they are usually very large, require a lot of water, susceptible to root rot and are exceptionally ugly! (there is no real 'form' to them) ☺
- (bac latr) ☺
43 degrees and raining hard. I had to look up elisabethclark Machiasport, ME to see where it is. Long way down east. Welcome. Patti
47 and raining pretty hard right now.
44 and raining hard here, too. We have a pair of mallards rooting around in the swale. The drake is so protective of the hen and follows her around. So cute!
