Debbie, that onion is from a store-bought green onion (chive) that went bad in the fridge 3 years ago, so I threw it in the flower bed. It took root and has been multiplying ever since. I know it's weird, but it adds structure, blooms every spring, and stays green all year. It's here to stay.
Spring has Sprung: Part 2!!
you can also eat it--lol
I just assumed it was an ornamental. Edible onions look very nice in the winter when little else is green, I have a few myself.
No Gymgirl, I haven't tried cuttings yet, but I will be trying this summer.
that Hibiscus Bienvenue is absolutely gorgeous! i want, i want!! lol

I got it at the Nederland Heritage Festival last month along with Night Fire and Heat Flash. The guy I got them from sets-up at Trade Days in Winnie. Here is his web site.

I am just loving this thread of wonderful spring pictures. They make each day a little happier and brighter..........all these pics!!!
Pod, have you got an ID on that yet? It looks like Salvia sylvestris 'Blue Hill' but it could be Salvia nemorosa 'May Night'...
I think I have some salvia that's come up, but it's no where near blooming! Yours is lovely Podster. Mine always, always, front yard and back, get buggy and look horrible as soon as summer arrives. I'm very jealous of the salvia of others!
This sunflower started blooming today. It's not one of the fancy seeds that I bought which have done nothing. Instead, it's seed that fell from the bird feeder!
Thanks to all for the comments on my one meager Salvia bloom.
Broncbuster, I've no ID on this Salvia but I checked out the two you suggested. It could be either one but I am leaning toward the Salvia sylvestris 'Blue Hill'. Will wait and see how the plant develops.
I do hope the Salvia doesn't go down the tube this summer, Elphaba. I love the bird seed sunflowers. They seem far better suited than the cultured ones. Very pretty.
Cocoa_lulu ~ I only first discovered the Salvias late last summer and will never garden without them again. It started when I saw some fall blooming red ones growing in the cracks of bricks on an old abandoned home. DH wouldn't stop so I could snag some seeds so I purchased S. coccinea Lady in Red. If he had only stopped, the passion might have never taken off.
LindaTX8 ~ your Ox-Eye Daisies are lovely. I had them for a few years and they faded away. I always wondered why... and when I see someones' bloom, I always wonder why I haven't planted more. Nice!
TJ, your Firewitch look just like mine. That Raspberry Swirl is a show stopper! Where did you get it?
Carla
You know, I can't remember where I got them. I've had them for a couple years, now. The blooms are reaaly nice, but the plants are not as full as my other Dianthus. I think I'm going to try and dig them up and move them over by the Cottage pinks. Then, if they still look poorly, I'll get rid of them.
i have really wanted to try the red hot pokers. they are really pretty and unique. i have decided i need more vertical flowers in my beds.

I saw a red hot poker in a neighbor's yard and thought 'what the heck is that gorgeous thing!' Thanks for answering my question! I love it. Your iris and rose and beautiful too.
Here is a plant that I planted a long time ago and then thought was dead and planted other things over it. That's one of my problems. I think stuff is dead, but it rarely is and then I have too much competing in the same area. Anyway, I can't remember what this is but it's kind of cool.
These flowers are wonderful to see! Our winds have been so damaging I have few plants outside that are blooming yet. The winds always die down towards the end of April.
