Do we have a forum yet called "GARDEN TIPS & TRICKS?"

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Dave/Terry, et al,

I thought a forum to share gardening tips, tricks, shortcuts, etc., was in the works. Is it there and I just missed it?

Please advise. Thanks.

(Zone 1)

hmmm ... sounds like that would be an interesting and informative forum! I know I would watch that one ... always love to learn about tips and short cuts from other gardeners! Great idea for a new forum, I will be watching for it.

Norfolk, VA

I know I would keep it in my watched threads! Please oh please can we have a forum like this??????

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that's a good idea for a forum. I love learning tips and tricks from other gardeners.

Norfolk, VA

think we could send this link to Dave and see what he thinks?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like that type of forum also.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Marvelous idea for a forum.Hope it happens : )

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

And no need to send the link to Dave--he and the admins keep an eye on forum request threads here in this forum. They don't generally post a lot, they like to just watch and see what the interest level is before making a decision.

Norfolk, VA

yea I kinda figured that, I know that they answer when the time is right.

This really would be a good forum to have, I hope they give it a lot of consideration.

Wymore, NE(Zone 5a)

I too, love learning about different hints, and suggestions...

Ok, so let's tell all our DGer friends to cast a vote for a "Gardening Tips, Tricks, & Shortcuts" Forum!

And, while we're waiting, here's my tip: USE THE WHITE, MEDICAL TAPE FOR VEGGIE LABELS

I discovered totally by accident that the white, waterproof medical tape you get makes a WONDERFUL label for your 1020 trays! I had several varieties of maters growing in Jiffy pellets in the same 1020 trays, and needed to label the rows. Out of desperation, I grabbed a roll of the white medical tape and wrote the names on the tape. Then I stuck the label on the inside (side wall) of the tray, high enough to not end up sitting in any water. To my amazement, the ink did NOT fade, even when the tape got wet. Also, that adhesive really STICKS, and did not peel off -- and the ink only came off when I washed my trays for next year in my pot washing solution: HOT, soapy water (Lemon Ajax) with a splash (1/2 cup) of bleach and two capfuls of minty fresh mouthwash. I washed the label with a washcloth, and the ink just wiped right off -- and the label NEVER peeled away from the tray. So, I can leave them where they are on the trays and just re-label the rows for next growing season!

Nothing like the present forum.

This is a Looooong blog, it's called "off the Shelf Garden Tips"
Off the shelf in medicine means meant for one thing but works as well or better on something it wasn't originally intended...there are tricks, recipies..diaries on experiments.links to web pages that I researched from, I wrote it for myself so I wouldn't forget ...but other people find it useful too.

Rj's Off The Shelf Garden Tips H202 and........

This is the entire categories...we can put it in the forum when it gets done.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

this would make my favorites list.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I like the idea of Garden Tips & Tricks. Some things that work in one zone might not work in others but we could identify the zone from the poster's ID. Frankly the only garden tip that seems to work in New Mexico is "Plant Rocks". ;-)

June

Albany, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL, I have lots of rocks but I can't get them to grow, do you think they are stunted?

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Good idea!

Savannah, GA

A "hints and tips" forum would be at the top of my list of forums to watch. Great idea!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Good idea, I'd love something like this. :)

Okay, I * really * like the tips and tricks thing but am wondering how you could keep it catagorized? I mean there are tuns of * great * tips and tricks buried all over DG. Once it's posted, then someone else jumps in and conversation takes it's natural course then ideas tend to get buried. :) What if we had a tips and tricks sticky at the beginning of each forum? :) When I want to know something about tomatoes, I go to the experts ... the tomato growers. They hang out in the tomato forum. When I want a cooking tip, I go over to the recipe or cooking forum. That's where I know I can get my answer quick. Linda, I'm not knocking your idea ... I think it's a great one. :) I am just thinking out loud.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

l01, I agree....There are so many forums and it's tough to get a conversation going because it always veers off into a different kind of plant...I am just waiting for somebody to tell me I've posted in the wrong forum...I might have a quastion about some of my seedlings from last year, but I am afraid to go to the perennials forum because one is an annual. LOL!

The only forum that includes absolutely everything is the Cottage Garden Forum....there is not one thing that's off topic, and the only place I feel safe. :))

RJ, Cool Links!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Great idea, Gymgirl! I vote yes!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Well in spite of our tendency to "wander" a bit at least tips and tricks would be under one over all blanket.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I would love such a forum. It will go immediately into my watched list.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think we could have different threads in the forum, for example;
Fertilizer Recipes.
Improving the soil.
Propagation by Cuttings.
Propagation by Seeds.
Remedies for Bugs.
Remedies for Diseases

And so forth, then people post their tips on the proper thread.
Josephine.
