MY THERMAL HEATED TEMPORARY GREENHOUSE
Small but effective. The block wall and the brick and stone base create a thermal boost every year about this time. Today a whole month will be gained by using this temporary greenhouse which will also house gallons of water to hold heat over the night time hours.
This house will also grow on my few flower seedlings and my giant pumpkin seedlings that will be potted today and placed in the greenhouse as soon as they emerge by this time next week. There is another temporary greenhouse just for the pumpkins out in the patch working to warm up the biology and get it ready for them by May 1st.
We get a little crazy here in an effort to grow things big, fat and sassy. Not to worry it is not near as expensive as being involved in NASCAR. Not in jest either I might mention that we have had our share of garden wrecks too along the way.

Doc, I have this thing about growing large veggies too.....
9lb. Cauliflower, Pumpkins that weigh as much as me, ect..
Nice, Dwaine!
This year, I am actually trying to grow FOOD for my FAMILY! Basil and dill to snip here and there is one thing, but actual FOOD, broccoli and tomatoes are another kettle of fish all together. I'm not going for big, just edible. xx, Carrie
at least i am not alone
:)
I jumped on a Hellebore co-op a few weeks ago as they were only $2.08 each. I was sleptical at first as I listened to people talk of last years and how small the plants were. Most didn't survive the trip or the transplant I guess. I took a chance as these were from Pine Knot Farms. http://www.pineknotfarms.com/
Here is one of the 6pk of seedling I recieved.
Those are so pretty. Do they have individual plant names, or do they leave you guessing?
Kinda leaves ya hanging.....one tag says "Diana Purple Shades"
(purple and Purple & White one)
"Diana Red and White" want to guess which one that is? LOL
The answer should be simple ... but then, there's not much that's simple in the nursery world.
Wait, Pixie, you got dianthus from a hellebore co-op? I gotta check these things out!
xx, Carrie
love those hellebores pixie... dianthus don't do well here... no matter what I do they only have a few weak blooms each year
Carrie.....no Dianthus in the co-op they were at Wally World!!! LOL
OK, makes more sense now! xx, Carrie
Celeste - i was a the nursery today and i saw a dianthus caled "Pixie Star" and thought of you...
aw... you need that!... after all I bought the Allison coleus
:)
and i even just got an "Amethyst Mist" heuchera...
^_^
will have to go look that one up
I grow Helenium for my sister Helen, who lives in Italy and is probably allergic to it. C
I've never heard of any plants named Harper.

i wish Dave would make a sad face feature - I am a very bad bad bad mother to my babies. I've been entrusting my seedlings' care to my attendants, who would rather go out and spray everything with the hose than get me out of bed. So... I lost a tray of annuals, and shame on me for thinking I could get away with planting in a tray. I also had a milk jug of bachelor buttons that I think were the first to germinate, and I said about three weeks ago, "we should plant those out" but of course we didn't, and somehow we didn't even take the lid off, and they looked very nearly dead today. Of course we ripped off the lid and
i tried CPR and mouth-to-sprout - we'll have to see.
Carrie
Oh wow, Allison, you got all those snapdragons to grow!!! You just can't get good help anymore. . . and then she quit Monday, I found out when she didn't come to work Tuesday. Grrrrr. Oh well. I'm duly impressed by your babies; are they inside, or outside now? x, C
thank you... I have them outside in the greenhouse frames... leaving the cover off longer and longer at night... I still have a ton of stuff inside but if we get a cold night i don't want to be running too many in... I don't mind a few but last year was crazy pulling in 30 or so flats in at night and putting them back out in the morning... so the tomatoes peppers & cucs are staying put as well as some of the more tender annuals
You've done a lot of good work, and it shows. They're gorgeous.
thanks
looking good so far.... I am going to start shifting some of mine outside for a few hours this weekend... the ones in the greenhouse stands are doing very well... i am actually surprised how much i like them... might have to pick up a few more
I can taste them already, Deb!
Pixie, that's awesome!! Such a pretty color, too.
