American Robin hoping the rain will stop.
DAILY PICS VOL. 82
Too funny adel! Wish we'd get some of that rain.
I had a nest of Red-bellied woodpeckers but the Starlings harrassed them every day until they left. They managed to raise their first batch of young first, but they kicked them out of the nest amazingly fast! Now the Starlings are after my Downies. I really hate those Starlings!
Here's a Red-bellied in motion with a sunflower seed in its mouth.
Good one GrannyGrunt!
This picture probably won't show up well, but it cracked me up. This poor White-winged Dove thought he'd hang out in this tree, one of the few without leaves yet, and flash his tail to see if he could get a woman. The Downy Woodpeckers have claimed that tree and won't allow any trespassers not even a stupid, big clumsy White-winged Dove.
The dove is behind the trunk on the lower left corner, but you can see his face and the fact that he's spread his wings to try to scare away this tiny Downy that keeps attacking him.
Oops, I meant my other left! Dove is in the lower right corner!
Nice pics adel and GG!
Elphaba, Nice pics! My Red-bellieds usually leave after they've reared their first young; it could be the Starlings chasing them away too.
I like the pic of the Downy and Dove.
Great pics everybody!!!
Great Crested Flycatcher?
Resin
Oh Resin...you are no fun at all!!!!! CORRECT!
That is too cute to be real-looks like a painting because of the perfect staging. Nice job getting that one!
The downy and the dove are too funny Elphaba. The little downies are getting fiesty here, too. Chased some grackles away yesterday. I cheered them on for that.
I love Phoebes!
Very nice pics Rose!
I wouldn't be too happy about having a Shrike around. :-)
What photo editing program are you using?
Nice pic GG!
Thanks Pelle.
Gosh Rose, that picture of the Downy is great! Looks like you are really getting the hang of that new camera.
Thanks Pelle and GG...I still am clueless about this danged camera and if anything turns out it is an accident. I keep reading but nothing sinks in...old timers for sure. Oh well I am enjoying it anyway!
Pelle..I use the the software that came with the camera "Digital Photo Professional". I think it won't let me use Picasa anymore...haven't a clue what happened. Picasa is easier but the other has a noise reducer (but I can't see where it makes a difference). My eyes aren't what they used to be so everything looks the same sometimes. Sigh.........
The Loggerhead Shrike was about 2 miles from here...so I don't know if he has visited our farm.
Question: Why are the birds so afraid of the Turkey Vultures? They always fly off when the Vultures show up.
'cause Turkey Vultures are so gosh darned UGGGGGGGLLLLLLLY! That's why!
Wonderful pic Rose!!
I have no idea why they fly off; mine don't do that. They only seemed concerned w/
Sharp-shinned and Coopers.
Their faces are ugly but I love watching them glide all over whether it be riding the thermals or the high winds.
As for the photo editing you probably made it your default software so that you can't use anything else.

I believe it is a Loggerhead Shrike
Correct!
Domesticated honkers of some sort
Well, domesticated quackers!

Probably because they're fairly similar shape to some hawks, and they can't always tell the difference (but sometimes they can, and then they don't fly off)
Resin
Thanks Resin...I suspected the birds could not tell the difference between the hawks and vultures! I watched 2 late feeding White Crowned Sparrows "freeze" for a good 5 minutes early yesterday eve. During the day ALL the birds will fly off while the vultures are overhead. You would think they would be eating less feed since they disappear so many times during the day but that is not the case. Someone told me yesterday that it is due to the fact that we had that late killing freeze last spring and there just isn't the food around they would usually have this time of the year. That would explain why I've had so may birds at the feeders all winter and still do!!
Thanks Pelle...I suspected the new software took over the default. I need to try and reset it.
I love the Junco's...but will they never leave?
I know I keep thinking the same thing about the Juncos. Nice pic!
Me three!! Or, maybe they just like our hospitality so much they don't want to leave. :)
Ok, I put up my hummer feeders this morning! Hopefully, I'll see a scout soon!!
March is the supposed to be the toughest month for birds as far as natural foods and insects go so maybe thats why their hesitant to leave a consistant food source.
If I have time I'll check last years pics to see when my last pics of them were.

Yep, that's correct, certainly for seed-eaters like finches and sparrows.
Resin
Boy, our owls were raising quite a ruckus last night!! It sounded like we were in the amazon or something!! Of course I went out to try to get a photo but no luck. But we saw several flying by. So they must be getting ready to nest too. Wil be out tonight watchin and listening!
Cardinals from sunday.
