Peeper, I refer to my back yard as the "jungle". I have a large area I tore up the grass from and kept making it larger and larger and planting shrubs, so now it is really a great hiding place for the birds. I keep feeders near shrubbery and I think it helps the birds feel safe. I have a lot of plants birds like, including Firebush, the Hummingbirds and Mockingbirds favorite.

Yep, Wilson's Snipe. Formerly treated as a subspecies of Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago, but now considered a separate species Gallinago delicata. Common Snipe is from Europe and Asia.

Still rather cold and lots of snow around so not too many newcomers in my area except for some that bought that early "fly north" ticket (I'm sure they gonna have a talk with their travel agent) :)

Visited the Great Horned Owl nesting site again and she is still sitting but while I was there she was being harassed for about 15 minutes by a red shouldered Hawk and also occasionally by small groups of crows (luckily not big murders of crows). Per locals she abandoned her nest last year due to constant harassment by other raptors and I hope that she toughened up now.

Here she is looking towards the screaming Hawk

Great pics PC!!

I hope she doesn't have to abandon the nest this year.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I know. I sure it was acceptable to find a way to protect her. PC, perhaps you could just set up house in the tree with her and yell SHOO lots.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Well it's the nature of things. Who knows maybe at night when the male comes by to bring food he'll get an ear full about that Hawk and she'll ask him to seek that hawk out and bring his head back :)

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

LOL Mrs_Ed. I wonder if them make larger versions of that house sparrow chaser that 2ndCousinDave showed in his bluebird thread? Hang a big one in the tree above her to keep hawks and crows at bay.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh I hope she and her nest make it. Bad, Bad Hawk!

I am wondering if this young guy is one of our babies from last year. He is very limber!

Lots of great shots here! PC, what a great photo opportunity but I do hope the owl can sit tight.

We has a thick covering of snow yesterday, with a couple of snow showers on Saturday and today, typical Easter, lol. Birds, apart from Tits on the nuts, are still secretive.

This Blue Tit is quite differently marked, with pale breast feathers and a very dark centre strip, and the head markings are netted.

I've been trying for weeks to get a pic of this brown-headed nuthatch. Finally succeeded, but it could be better. I need more zoom! He flies in, grabs a seed and is gone.

I was out in the front yard on a rainy gloomy day (today) When I started hearing a metallic ringing. I looked around and spotted this Northern Flicker on a power transformer about 100' away..........

LOL! She doesn't look too impressed!

I just took this awhile ago. I have a really terrible time with cardinals even the females. So hard to pick up their coloring. But every now and the I get a decent one.

Wow! What fantastic pictures. Mrs. Ed, love that twosome.

Nanny, thanks for the picture. Love it. Keep'em coming!

Billy, I have dial up also; so I am also slooooooooooow! Well, I'm just plain slow, but the dial-up makes the computer slow!

Right after this Blue Jay shot me this look this morning, the battery on my camera went dead! Geez!

Very nice of the cardinal and the bluebird Nanny.

I cannot get the eyes to show on the shots of the male cardinals. I think I posted one yesterday where the eyes showed. Very frustrating.

Great pictures everyone! I love your comments with yours Adelbertcat -- I always end up chuckling. :)

Pelle, you mean to tell me that my cute little chickadees will eat my buds on my bradford pears??? That would not be a good thing at all, unless they don't eat much!!

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

That little chickadee is so cute, pelle.

Eating suet together.
