Gabi, wow, instant flowers, very nice indeed!!
Those yellow flowers on the kenejiana remind me a little bit of pooh bear (yellow and fuzzy, sort of cuddly) Heeee Heeee.
I don't have most of the hoyas that you got, and really appreciate being able to put a picture with a name. That always comes in handy when trying to decide what to order later. Your new acuta, and the pentaphlebia look really nice and healthy. I am on my second pentaphlebia, and we are hanging in at best. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I think that I need to let things dry out a little more...I am a chronic over-waterer.
I didn't know that Hoya sipitangensis was a small leafed hoya like that. As much as I love the huge, extreme, giant leaves on the latifolia, polystachya, and clandestinas, I really also love the little button-like leaves on the small hoyas like sp. biak, mathilde, and my new favorite, Hoya thompsonii, which I just received a beautiful cutting from a good friend yesterday.
Congratulations,
S
Springtime Hoya gluttony:
Gabi- Really like the heart shaped leaves on the pentaphlebia. WHat color will the blooms be?
Diane
Thanks everyone!
Yes David, I think I might get a trophy for Hoya Hog - but my competition is tough (you and Sara..hehe).
I am more of a big-leaved person too, Sara - but I really like the flowers on sipitangensis. And the leaves are small, but very hard. Kind of like H. picta but a little bigger.
As for H. thomsonii, that one grows super fast for me - I got it in the Fall DL order that you hosted last year, and it has grown SO much. So I'm sure you'll do great with it. I love the speckles and the fuzziness of it!
Diane, pentaphlebia reminds me of pachyclada in terms of foliage (but even bigger!).
Gabi
Thanks Gabi- like you say, either one is nice but I really like Carol's! But with such interesting foliage, flowers are just a bonus! Going to have to look up pachclada too! OOO more for the wish list!!!
ahem .... Maybe I should open my very own botanical garden and you guys could all put "Lin's Botanical's" in your wills ... hee hee.
Looks like y'all have been busy ordering new plants. I'm loving these photo's. My "wish" list is sooo long and getting longer by the minute when I lurk on this forum!
I too am curious as to where Sara ordered those beautiful, healthy cuttings from!

That's what I've been wanting to ask??!!
Is it some sort of secret? Why? Who is the vendor?
Well, I finally got my hoya darwinii today. I have been lusting after this hoya for a while now, and some of my really funny friends sent me sympathy emails after I lost the ebay auction last fall.
I bought this beauty from Antone this weekend. Gabi, we may be tied for the biggest hoya pig award. There was no disappointment or let down with the final acquiring of this hoya. The leaves are a bit card-boardy, but very healthy, and it has 2 plants with over 2 feet of vine each. Good thing I got my mileage check today. Ha.
I had so little self control, that I caught my mail delivery person at 10:00 this morning just because I couldn't wait for my lunch hour to get my pretty plant.

Sara I should be receiving my Darwinii today too!! Antone sent me a second chance offer and of course I jumped on it. I will post a picture of mine when it arrives.
Blessings,
Awanda
Ha, Awanda, were you a big eBay loser too? Antone is a really good guy, I can't wait to see your plant.
I really like the wiry vines that darwinii has - really a different character in the hoya world.
S
Whooo Hooo. I am just getting too excited. I seem to be running hot and cold with the hoyas. Some days I feel so overwhelmed that I think that I need to STOP - no more. Then there are days that I can't seem to stop buying plants.
I wonder if all addicts feel this way? Seriously!! I wear totally grubby clothes, I have horrible shoes, but will turn around and drop $150 easy. I am sure that the ambivalent feelings are not new ones to gamblers, crack addicts and others with strong addictions, and minimal will power? How embarassing! Ha.
BUT - just let one of you fellow addicts stand up, and offer to take those two beautiful hoyas that dmichael is waving under my nose, and watch the fur fly. Pathetic. Really.
Yes, David, please do wait for the D.L. order to get to you. May as well pay for one huge box, than a couple. Plus, you might get some more awesome growth on those two for me in the meantime. Ha.
Your enslaved friend,
Sara
NICE! Awanda, I think that is nicer than the one on ebay was. Very well done on Antone's part. I just bet you are happy with that plant. Congratulations.

*whispering* who's this Antone everyone is talking about?

Antone Jones is a really cool guy in Florida who grows incredible hoya and dischidia. We have been friends for a couple of years and we trade both hoya and dischidia and our collections are growing emensely thanks to eachother....and other wonderful friends we have. Antone is one of the most respected voices in the dischidia world due to his precisice and fastidious research practices...his record keeping, his honesty, his integrity and his great sense of humor!!! Now that Sara has found him, i guess he will become a household word like TIDE... Any business deal with Antone is a 'no worries'...he is great!!!
What more can i say?
Carol, You wrote:

Pardon me, but I think that you have lost me here? I was contacted by Antone, after loosing an ebay auction of his. I bought a darwinii. Is he a "secret"? I didn't think so, I was not asked by him to keep his identity confidential.
In the "March Blooms" thread, you wrote that you were: > Not as clever as most but certainly not as vicious as most as well<
Is this the "viciousness" that you were referring to on the March blooms thread? Wow, people really can be hurtful. Off to have a great day...
Thanks Carol,
Sara

Sara, I think you misrepresenting what Carol said. She spoke well of Antone, and was not disparaging of you or others. And he is not well known among casual buyers. How was this vicious or hurtful?
edited to say-
You didn't mention the seller of your plants above, when you said later that you had "missed the chance to buy a Hoya darwinii" from Antone, it seemed reasonable that the source of you seller, above, might be him, and you had pointedly not given out that sellers name- hence a secret.

Sara...I was talking about myself....giving the other extreme of the spectrum of personality traits.
I kinda don't understand the attacks from you nor dm - this is a lovely forum which I, personally, would never use to attack anyone, nor accuse them of anything nor question their intetgrity. Dmails or personal emails are better for those things, i think...but then, I am me, and can only speak for myself.
It was pretty obvious that you didn't want to disclose the name of your 'secret friend', your 'secret source'...and it appeared that it was Antone (by my interpretation of what you said). All the secretness was getting a bit sticky. I simply wrote that everyone could feel relaxed buying from Antone because he is so cool - and NOT one of the major players in the hoya/dischidia selling world. I hope he will become one... My reference to you making him a household word was as innocent as could be...perhaps I should have used another product besides Tide?
Computers are machines and words are just words. You can (not you Sara but "one can" ) interpret things all different ways... I am really sorry to feel attacked. That was not my purpose.
Cark, and Marol,
I stated that I bought darwinii from Antone. If my first spring hoya shipment had come from Antone, I would have said that I got the cuttings, and the lobii from Antone. I did not.
I was contacted by an individual who was looking to downsize their collection. That person did not want to be named on the forum, or anywhere else, as they did not want to be innundated with emails and requests from others. I told everyone who asked about those hoyas that very thing, in a personal d-mail. I have hinted at neither gender, nor geographical location re: said individual. Of all the members who have asked me about those hoyas, not one has had an issue with my response that the sender be kept confidential. I was under the impression that it is ok to share pictures of hoyas, and new plants with out the requirement of stating who they came from. Perhaps I was wrong.
Carol, I am not sure what hostility you are referring to - I quoted your earlier statements so that there would be no question as to what comment you made that I was responding to...? Perhaps the hostility to which you refer is coming from a much closer source?
S
Okay since I obviously didn't make myself absolutely 100% clear yesterday in my original posting ,the hoyas that I shared pictures of that got deleted because someone thinks that i'm self promoting well they were being gifted to Sara totally free of charge.
So let me try again here. The hoya in the picture is being sent to Sara totally free of charge as my part of a trade that she and I are doing. KEY word here is trade we are trading NOT selling. There is no self promotion in trading. If there is a problem with me mentioning sending someone something in trade, well the administrators may want to check out the March blooms thread.
The picture below is of a FREE hoya that I am sending to Sara.
sp. Tanna Island
Well, Dmara, I think it is fine to post pictures of new plants and share sources, but of course, in situations like the one of my being a close friend of Marol's (oops, I meant CAROL's), since becoming a close friend of hers after visiting her a couple years ago (and writing about it here), I have been careful not to endorse her as a seller, or post pictures of the plants I ordered from her, which I have done many times since, or post about her ebay offerings. I don't want to appear to be advertising for her, since that would be unethical and against the rules of DG. So you can see why dealers and their close friends are perhaps looked at a bit more closely in the recommendations they make?
If the reference to the March blooms is about a plant that I sent to Carol, that is obviously different as I am not a vendor, and have no commercial interest in having people see a plant I sent to someone. That lacunosa is not one I grew myself at any rate, it was a thoughtful gift from someone to me, and was grown by Exotic Angel.

hmmmm ... This thread looks like it needs some cheer.
^_^ ^_^ ^_^
Sorry Dave if I'm abusing the little smiley ... we really do need to pass him around.
True enough, Lin!
How do you make the smiley face? I wasn't aware you could do that on DG.
Hi Mark: It's something new Dave has done: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/830023/
Real easy to make: Hold down shift key and enter the number 6, the underline character and the 6 again.
example: ^_^ then hit send. Apparently it doesn't show in preview and as yet isn't working in d-mail. Fun!
^_^ !
I didn't understand what the relation of the keystrokes was to the smiley face until I typed it in! Cute.
I agree ... I smile every time I see it.
^_6
I'm very bad at instructions. LOL!!
I wont give up! ^_^
^_^
^_^
Edited to say this is fun....best part of the thread!!!

:)
Are we all smilin now? How can you not smile with that cutie, huh? ^_^
Gluttony does not fit me but will use this thread to "show off" my new hoyas. The new additions take me to just over 20 hoyas. I received these wonderful, healthy and large cuttings from fellow DGer dmichael619. He was so generous with his cuttings and even sent me a couple that I had not asked for. I am sure that David's generousity could only be exceeded by his good looks. LOL.
Here is the first.
