Well, it is only the third day of spring, and I just received my first shipment of new hoyas!! This was a tough one, as I have an order to David Liddle in the works, a trial order through Jim Jacobs, and this one that I just received today.
Here is the lobbii orange that I have been coveting almost as long as the lamingtoniae that I also received.

Springtime Hoya gluttony:
Here is the Hoya memoria. Doug and Gabi, I blame the two of you equally for prompting me to get this one!! :) While not two feet long, there are two very healthy and generous cuttings clipped together here, and I am positive it will fill a pot nicely, now that the magical spring season has arrived!!
I was pleasantly surprised by this one, as I only ordered one cutting, but got two. Little bonuses go a long way!!

Here is Hoya minibelle. I have never gotten this one, but now am asking myself why? It is really a nice leafed hoya, and was one that I didn't request, but am told smells absolutely divine. Having stated that I have an abundance of white flowered hoyas, and am looking for some nice colors of pink, red, orange, and yellow, this was added to my shipment at no charge.
This is my last cutting. It is Hoya loherii. I ordered this from my first order from David Liddle, but it just didn't ever grow, and slowly died. I added it on at the last minute. I really hope it does better than my last one.
Does anybody grow this successfully and could offer a bit of advice?
Thanks in advance,
Sara
Here is vitellina. I was wrong, this is my last cutting. This is the egg yolk yellow vitellina, and I really can't wait to see it bloom. I have the fusco marginata vitellina, and love that too, but gluttony demands that I own both.
The leaves on this hoya are very thick and succulent. It is different than I would have expected.
Those look great and very healthy. Would you tell us where you got them? I want to order some soon (whenever spring gets here) and am debating where to order.
Derge, you have D-mail.
Sara
Oooohhhh ... Awanda that is the most amazing loherii I have ever seen!!!
Thank you for the advice on how to grow it. Once I've lost one, I tend to get a little leery about how to grow another, so knowing the type of soil and watering conditions is just super helpful! In Montana, during the summer, it gets hot and dry like in Arizona, so I'm going to take your advice and make sure my soil is nice and chunky, and I'll let it dry out just a little before I water.
Awanda, I know it's always spring in Arizona, but have you gotten anything new too? I can't be gluttonous alone here (lol).
S
I love those Sara, I also would like to know where you got them.
Jen
Sara - nice cuttings!!! I'm sooo jealous - I've been afraid of freezing temps., but Illinois HAS to be warmer than Montana, right?!? Wanna share your source with me, too? Thanks!
Karen
Ha Karen, Hi Jen, good to "see" you again!!
YES, Montana is definitely colder than Illinois, seeing as our temps dropped into the teens last night, I was freaking out just a little thinking of my box of cuttings and plants possibly sitting in a frozen truck. HA! No damage though, and everything looks like it was just cut.
When I told DH that I would wait till spring to order, I meant it. I set up my hoya shipment the day the calendar said "spring". Yikes, I was thinking that all of the good hoya spots were filled, yet somehow I have managed to move things around, hang plants up, and fit 35 empty pots into prime hoya positions (in front of windows) in preparation for the hoyas that I am anticipating getting from David Liddle and other sources.
I really am pathetic. I told Bryan this morning as he was looking around the kitchen at all of my hoyas, that if anything ever happens to me, to put them all on eBay, and it would probably pay for my funeral!! Ha.
Cheers,
S
Very nice score there Sara!!!! That's the kind of cuttings that I like to receive it's also what I like to send when doing a trade with anyone.
And you're not alone,I have to admit i've been a bit gluttonous myself. Since last November i have ordered hoyas 4 times. The temps were in my favor so I bought twice from Ted Green, once from Asiatica. The Asiatica plants totally amazed me, I bought 4 and 2 of them were already almost 3ft long.
You know Sara, that's something to think about and I haven't. If something happened to me tomorrow what wold happen to all of my hoyas?? I have a will made out but it doesn't specify what should be done with my gh's and plants. Guess I need to put some thought into that. A state botanical garden would make a good beneficiary for them!

VERY nice Sara!!! I have worked with Jim Jacobs for years and he is a nice guy!!!
Carol
Gosh Sara, those are really nice-sized and healthy cuttings. Congrats on being the first pig of the season!! I'll probably be next though - I'm expecting a nice order hopefully next week from Carol, and I just can't wait!!
Your funeral comment was downright hilarious. I'm still cracking up!
Gabi
Carol, good to know that you recommend Jim Jacobs. These hoyas are not from him, I will be getting those sometime next week. This will be my first order from him, and I have spoken to both him and his wife on the phone, and they were both super friendly, helpful, and very nice. They were recommended by a former member of this forum, who has purchased eBay plants from him.
Oooooo Gabi, be sure to show us what you get, I get some of my best ideas from copying my neighbors paper!!! Hee Hee!
Sounds like David's piggishness has no season, he oinks up hoyas year round. Too funny.
Seriously though, about the hoyas, and funerals...I know that Bryan doesn't have the time nor inclination to take care of several hundred plants, and some that I purchased for $6.00 - 25.00 are now probably worth lots more after 6 years of growing. I would hate to just see them be allowed to die, or get pretty gnarly, I would much rather they be liquidated if it became necessary. I even told him to call my friends to see how to pack them, and to be sure to list names and IML #'s for true collectors on eBay.
I understand now the huge lecture he gave me on his comics, and how to grade them in the event anything ever happened to him. He has an X-Men giant size #1 that is worth several thousand dollars, or some such that I pretty much got the same spiel on several years ago. Ahhhhh collections.
Cheers,
S
Sara I haven't brought or received any hoyas since last year! I do however plan to make up for it this spring:-).
Blessings,
Awanda
I like Jim...can't really say I recommend him as a seller because as I have never bought from him I would have nothing to base my feelings on - if ya know what I mean!! I pretty much stick with David Liddle and Ted Green because I know I am getting what I order (as much as they can possibly know).
On this cheerful subject of what to do with collections....Botanical Gardens would be my choice...they know how to grow them.
Aloha
Awanda, go crazy - you have lots of time to make up for. I can't even imagine how many hoyas I would get if I had a whole year of "seasonality" that would allow for safe shipping.
Do you have a list of what you want? As my collection grows, I am finding that I have to be a whole lot more discriminating due to lack of space. I am not even tempted by many of the exotic angel hoyas anymore, and multiple clones of hoyas are being placed in community pots.
I have all of my potsii's, pubicalylix's, heuschkeliana's, and several eriostemma's all potted like with like. I keep the tags on the vine, so I can follow it back for ID reasons, but I figure that heuschkeliana is heuschkeliana regardless of the flower color, and it would be cool to see all of them blooming at the same time, and it usually doesn't happen that way anyhow. I have done the same with my erythrostemma clones, and my mindorensis' too.
Carol, I think that donation to a botanical garden is a really nice way to go with your hoyas. Unfortunately there aren't any here in Montana...We have some nice battlefields, and several state and national parks that I love to support, but not many options for my beloved plants.

So is Jim Jacobs that same guy that I started that thread about his Ebay auctions on recently? I kept thinking his name rings a bell, and finally figured it out! He went under the name James Jacobs in his emails to me, so there was where the confusion was. Then when you mentioned Ebay it all came to me. I sent him a copy of that thread, so hopefully he finally got the picture!
Sara, of course I'll post pictures when I get the plants from Carol. I am super excited! I've been wanting these hoyas for awhile. I actually heard from Carol today, and she is sending my hoyas out to me on Tuesday!! I feel like a kid at Christmas! I'm getting the following hoyas (and they are all in bloom and/or have tons of peduncles on them, so I will have a very fragrant Spring!):
H. sipitangensis, H. subglabra, H. pentaphlebia, H. greenii, and H. kenejiana
Gabi
Wow, Sara, what a haul! I'm also intrigued - who's your pusher?
The leaves on that unknown "pottsii" don't look like those on mine....I believe mine is IML 22, which Carol has on her site - I purchased it from her years ago, but lost the tag.
Julia
Hey Julia,
Good to hear from you again. Are you getting any new hoyas this year?
I honestly don't think that hoya looks like a potsii at all, but that debate didn't get very far with the person I got it from - Heee Heee, I know, you really can't go by leaves, and there are so many different potsii's, so potsii ? it is.
Edited to say: it looks like dmichael has a potsii IML 22 in his list of ebay auctions. I might have to keep an eye on that one - the idea of my house smelling like hyacinths is so seductive.
