Ken - That's cool! What is she going to name it? I'd love to see a photo of the blooms if she can email you one!

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

We have a cutting of her plant that is three feet and planted in the ground. I will see if she will send me a picture. I will not say what she is going to name it until it is registered.

i was surfing JT's site, looking for replacement for brugs i lost when i was ill and bed ridden due to major illnesses. the cross came to my attention last night.

FYI , no offense intended but Velvet Rose - cross of Pink Beauty and Ecuador Pink, already exist in Gone2Seed's website http://www.countrygdn.com/catalog3.html page 7 on the same link.

i do not really know who the parent pollinator of this cross. some research and investigation is needed. i hope someone will shed light on this specie.

if i offended anyone, there is no offense intended. i know both JT and Terry, whose both been very kind to furnished my addiction in the past. there are too many brug look alike already existing! we do not need further confusion on the matter.

Hello MaVieRose! I'm sure no one took offense, and more info is always appreciated. I think perhaps though we should restate that a cultivar name does not apply to a cross, such as PBxEP, rather it applies only to one individual plant from one seed, and the future cuttings that are from that one original seed. So there could be many different plants from a PBxEP cross that all have different names.
There are many fine cultivars from the exact same cross that are however unique & distinct from each other, and deserve separate names. There are more details up above in Kenboy's post #10. :^)

MaVieRose,
There are lots of different named brugs that are from the same cross (set of parents).
A brug seedpod can have 200 or more seeds in it. Each seedling can look different and show different expressions of thier genes. So therefor each seedling can potentially be named and will be unique.

Hi hope43 - Yes! I got your stamps yesterday and will be sending out your Brug seeds this afternoon. Sorry - I wasn't sure what you were talking about! LOL! I didn't think you meant the brugs were "ugly"! LOL!

Edited to say: There is a slight problem. Check your d-mail! :-)

Seedling variation is a wonderful thing.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, I finally have two seeds that have sprouted.. don't have a clue which ones they are since all my brug seeds got mixed up when the cat knocked off my container and played with the packages.. picked up seeds from all over the floor. Still, I am soooo excited, I am hooked.. now I want to start more! Oh the small joys in life! Anyone with a few extra seeds available, I would be willing to try them out. I do have some Texas pink seeds that had to be crossed with a noid white since that was the only thing blooming near it.. don't know how good they are though sice I knocked the seed pod off when moving outside and it was not entirely dried on the stem... the pod was dark greeninsh brown but the stem was still green... dumb me!

What is Texas Pink?

I received the Texas Pink from Gordon Hawk in the fall of 06. Here is a pic of a bloom:

My NOID pink does look very much like that of Isabella. That being said, I've a cutting of Isabella that's putting out buds. Will stand them side by side for comparision.

This is what is blooming in my garden today.

OH..Texas Pink... Yes Ken I'm the giver of that plant... and it's name.. Texas Pink is a reallly BIG grower for me... it's the BIGEST.. and most flowering of any.. i was given t o me from Texas.. without a name on that one... so It did so well I gave it my name.. just to be able to refer to it in my Garden.. when I give some of it away... that's what I call it...
Perhaps you can help me remember the grower ... It was an older man there.. who isn't posting for the last few years...for 3 yesrs or so... an early big grower... somehow I think there was some medical issues with him... he was one ofthe first to smother me with cuttings... a real jewel..
Gordons
TexasPink isn't as open as Isabella.. her trumpets are trimmer..

A few years ago I got a Brug that had buds on it at Canton ( worlds largest trade day ) and we have tried to ID it and can't. We just call it the Canton Brug. We have got rid of several Brugs that did not perform for us and all noid except the Canton Brug. It is first up, put on more canes and flowers than any Brug we have and that includes Isabella.

Ken.. your discription of your Canton Brug..sounds for the world like my TexasPink. . It does grow out well... flowering about all of the time as well... I grow mine to a standard.. and usually mail out to the folks here... cuttings of the additional canes... there must be 50-100 of them around in many places.. of ones I've mailed out or given away in the past few years.. I didn't know it's parentage so I never thought of registering it.
Does your Canton Brug have a similar flower to the one Tammie posted a picture of...from my memory it runs a bit darker in the pink than her photo shows.. Given that that's due to vary.. place to place and throughout the year... if she said it was tagged by me as a TexasPink.. I'm sure it is... unto the best of my ability to function... considering I still can't remember the gentleman's name who gave it to me... 4 or 5 years ago.. mmmm ... or more..
( OH.. come on some of you O'Timers... who was the big Texasgentleman thatwas such a wonderful fellow )
We work on the old oral tradition here... but no one can remember the story..
better tagging and record keeping has been introduced lately.. as the collection and it's value in the field increases..

That picture of the Texas pink was taken at night when temps were near 100 and it had wilted daily from the heat! Tolerant brug for sure. It was only in a 3 gallon pot also. It is putting out leaves now and will be planted in the ground soon.. I bet it is really happy then. This is the brug that by my mistake almost did not survive. I had received it as a cutting, rooted it and grew it until early spring 07. The weather was so nice I moved it outside with the others to begin hardening off to the sun.. well we had an ice storm. I moved everything in but to my dismay, found my lonely cutting sitting out in an overcoat of ice... even the small thin pop bottle I used for a pot was frozen. I thought it was a gonner.. but it survived to grow and bloom for me last summer. It only had 3 blooms but they were absolutely stunning. I kept in in front of my garage which is north facing. this year it will grow where it gets morning sun until about 11 then bright light and no direct sun the rest of the day... should be happy. I do have a small protected yard.. only 19 ft wide and 100 ft long! Birck housing on the two long sides and 7ft fence at the ends. Lots of oleanders to protect from wind between where the brugs will be planted this year.

Hopefully, the cats won't chew on them. They are poisonous. Nice plants and beautiful blooms!

Well, I will baby mine and keep my kitties and Kiddies and doggies away from them! lol!

Ooooh she's a beaut!! I have 4...3 American shorthaired, and Minoux is half Persian.
Beckie, they chew on the leaves, and so far they never got sick. My neighbour too have cats that are not affected by them.
And Anjl as for the seedlings...well, they are in another closed area of the workshop/gh.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

We cross post, Gordon. I like your set-up.

Oh Heavenscape, I didnt mean that in a negative way...just my cats and dogs and kids would easily knock over or chew up, or decimate my seedlings! lol! Even My DH isnt allowed near them (he thought they looked dry and 'helped out' by drowning them all the day they germinated! UGH!) so I just horde them and keep everyone away! lol!

Beautiful cat pictures! I love the Bengal. my kitty is a siamese, with personality plus! lol

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Gordon, I like your seedling setup. I've started seed in the greenhouse. It's brighter and more humid, but I root my cuttings on the part of the kitchen table that gets morning sun.

My two cats, both found cats, will go after leaf blades that resemble grass, but leave other things alone. I had to take my Beaucarnea recurvata out to the greenhouse because they ate the leaves even when I had the plant on a 6' corner shelf. My little tuxedo cat chirps when he wants something badly. The other one must have some oriental ancestry in him because he is very vocal. He looks like an ocicat reject where most of the spots merge into stripes. I have to quit now. It's difficult to type one handed. Winston is having a "hold me" attack. LOL
