Help with Tags and or Favorites

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I have been trying to figure out how to add individual threads to my favorites. I have read through here and saw that you click the little file near the top of the page. Every time I do this either on a forum or thread, it takes me to the tagging page. Reading the info there has told me that tags take the place of favorites. OK makes sense, but when I try to name a tag, or even click in the box, the page and my entire browser freezes. I'm using IE 7 and this is the only page that does this, so I am at a loss!
This place is so amazing with so much info, that it is making me nuts that I can't figure this out LOL.
Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hmmmmm, I went into my IE and had no problem getting it to tag. Have you cleared your cache lately?

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Well I tried that and it still didn't work. Thanks for the help though. Do you have any other ideas? Stuff like this that I can't figure out just drives me buggy!

You could always try Firefox, everything here seems to work better with it instead of IE.

I'm using Firefox, and I know that when I go to enter a tag, it always takes a bit for what I type to enter into the input box. The first couple of times I thought it had frozen, but I gave it a minute and it came back. I have no idea if that observation is relevant or not, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see if it was useful to anyone.

You might also check to see if your pop up blocker is open to Daves. Or if nothing else works, go to the computer forum, that's all the geeks and somebody there should be able to help.

Well I got it to work finally. You guys are magic! I did wait a while and what I typed finally showed up, but only a few letters, I had to wait a few seconds more and type some more, really odd! Thank you so much for your help! I have one more little question if I may... it's about Favorites. Does this feature no longer work? I'm so trained to look for favorites LOL. I did try Firefox for a while, but the family grumbled so I went back to IE. Heaven forbid they should learn something new!
Thanks again!

Favorites is no more, the Tags are the replacement. Heck Joey, run both Firefox and IE, not a big deal. I use firefox most of the time, it's a lot faster and a lot easier to work with.

I just might do that Doc, everybody tells me that it's superior to IE.
Thanks again everybody, this site is the greatest, now that I've got this working it's perfect! I originally signed up for 2 month subscription, just to see. But I don't know what I would do without it now, and it's only been a few weeks!
Y'all are gold!

The lag time between typing and seeing characters is getting longer and longer for me - anyone else noticed that? DG on the whole is so quick, it's very odd.

Dave, anything you can do or is it just because the look-up table is so big now?

I, too, have noticed the protracted delay when trying to type in tag names. The wait time has gotten so long that I now type 3 or 4 comma separated names in and then sit back and wait for them to actually appear on the screen so that I can verify them and hit enter. The problem with that, of course, is that I don't get to use the helpful list of pre-existing tags. I think the apparent success of tagging and the ever growing list of tag names is probably causing the delay.

How do you search for a "tag?" I know how to find my own personal tags, but I'm talking about calling up a tag from the general tags database. I Do you go to the ALL tags site and search from the huge list there, or is there an easier way to find something with a tag? Like go somewhere and type in a tag word and a list of matches will appear...

Thanks!

The cloud form of the tags list is in alphabetical order. When I want to find a tag, I go to the list of all tags (which is in cloud form) and scan down the list in search of words beginning with the same 1st letter as the word for which I am searching. For example, to search for the word "dog" I would quickly scan down the cloud of ALL tags until I find words beginning with the letter 'd'. Again, this is because I know that the cloud is in alpha order. Then I would slow down a bit and scan the "d's" for "do" and so on until I either find "dog" or find the two words between which it would fit in which case I know it isn't there. It's just like searching through a file cabinet for files arranged alphabetically by subject. If I don't find "dog" I might try something else like "canine", etc. Because the tags are arranged in alphabetical order, a search tool isn't really necessary.

Or if you'd rather search (just in case the word you're looking for was tagged as the middle word in a phrase and you can't find it alphabetically), most (all?) browsers have a "find on this page" type of feature (usually under the "edit" menu) where you can type in the word you're looking for and it'll find all occurrences of that word on that page.

After you click on the little manila folder icon and type in the heading for your tagged page, are you clicking on the little box area that says Add these tags? If you forget to do that, the page won't be saved.

After you've tagged a page, go to the area at the top of the screen that says My Info, click there and under the first heading that says Your Actions, there's one that says View Your Tagged Pages. If you click on that it will show any articles or pages you've tagged.
