Hi Y'all!

Great room, Randy! Sun was out today, so Grandson helped make a daylily flower bed and cut back some more banana trees!! All went well, and we are both exhausted. Time for a movie and then lights out!

I tried to post earlier today and hit send, off it went into the wild blue yonder. Was on our way to Lowes so didnt have time to start all over. We'll see if this one takes!

Have a great day all

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

It's like the one that I have, Jen has it too, "Botanica The illustrated A-Z of over 10,000 garden plants and how to cultivate them"! Got it at half price books during one of their Grand Opening Sales in Clear Lake / Webster. It's wonderful!!!
They are older editions, but still very informative...!

I'm still looking at mine! Glad that you like your book Randy!

How's your folks doing, Randy? Did they have any trouble getting into town?

Have a great visit!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

They are great. They were amazed at the garden, it had been two years since they've seen it. They had no trouble getting here, although the plane was late...they got in about 1AM.
They rented a car today and drove to Mission TX to see some friends by Brownsville.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Glad they had a safe trip! I'm sure that they were very impressed, it is so beautiful!
Enjoy their company while you can!

Taking Mom for routine bloodwork in Clear Lake tomorrow afternoon, then picking up youngest GD in the afternoon. She will be here until Sat. Then back home for Easter with her Mom and Granny.

Going to try to get a few more things done in the garden while I have my Grandson's help tomorrow! They are such great helpers! He is such a good little gardener! He is 12 now, so won't be little for much longer!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

My folks live in Brownsville...wouldn't it be funny if they knew some of the same folks?!

Ah yes, the encyclopedia! Now I member!

I love it when my grandsons help me in the garden. My youngest one actually had his own mini garden on the side of my house in Denver. His mom would say "Oh Sean is just to much a "boy" to enjoy gardening"...but he did!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

aah...that would be a certain twist of life now wouldn't it?

okay...off to home..work is finally done..these last two nights have been tough with that weather! Even though it's gone from here, it had to go visit our other hub in EWR..
YOKWE
Good night , so loooong...to you and you and youuuuuuu

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Drive safe friend Randy! Chat ya up tomorrow!

Nite all!

Zolfo Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Braveheart how is your weather now? My DH and I will be in Honolulu Apr 3. Tell me what we can expect. We are so excited . We have never been to HI.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

LP...you might have sun with showers, or intermittent showers with patches of sun, or sun with..... Honolulu is generally nice when the trades blow.... Wait until March 31 to look at the weather map!!! Being on a rock in the middle of the flipping ocean, it is often a toss up.....our weather this time of year is determined by the storms up north....you want TRADE WINDS... not alot you can do about it when they don't blow. Around here...just move to the other side of the island if you don't like the weather!!!!

YES..I love Quinoa!!! Please share your new way to fix it. I love mine with garlic and walnuts! Cooked in homemade chicken broth. Also love it in my hot oatmeal for breakfast with walnuts and raisins, crasins, yogurt.....

After reading In Defense of Food...I am all about real FOOD....gotta outlive my dogs!!!!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

LP, Carol has pretty much answered your question, Oahu gets more showery weather than I do here in Maui. I don't often go to Oahu, it's more just a passing thru area for us. I hope you will be renting a car and touring the island. I don't like the city myself, too many cars and confusion with the one way streets, etc - but the North Shore is a very nice area, much quieter. It's a pretty drive up over the pali - do stop at Queen Emma's summer house and check out the huge monkey pod trees in her garden. I hope you also have time to visit the palace - I never have been, but I always have meant to, but they have strange hours...
Enjoy your trip!
Aloha

Hi Everybody,

I'm almost over the flu - after two weeks!! My doctor called with good news: no cancer, no serious infectious diseases, I need to wash better (soap and water, not a quick rinse) after gardening. Possible diabetic or pre-diabetic, need another test. I see him again next Wednesday then I think I can head home again.

The weather is beautiful here in San Diego and I got a bunch of books from Goodwill so I'm chilling in a good way.

Everyonetake care and enjoy your day.

Good news Katie - at long last some answers and some relief from the pain in your arms. Keep up the good work! Now you will be able to go home fit, healthy and rested.
Vaya Con Dios, and drive home safely.

Poor Don...will keep your aches and pains in mind during moon ceremony - also Katiebear! So happy to hear all the good news! Don't anybody freak out when I say "Moon Ceremony"... just a time for DD and I to spend together in gratitude for our many blessings, and some meditation to prop up the good vibes to send out to all of our friends. Can't hurt, right? Love you all whether you think I'm a total flake or not! Ha Ha. Randy - well - you know.

Chicken and Quinoa (spanish style). Cook up some chicken in broth with carrots a bit of onion and a bay leaf...not much 3/4 lb or so for 4 servings. Simmer for 20 minutes or so till done and tender. When done put two cups of the broth in pot with one cup well rinsed quinoa and cook for 15 minutes. Cut chicken into bite size bits and dice up carrot and onion. Toss bay leaf. In large skillet, heat up some olive oil and cook more diced onion for a few minutes...add some bell pepper, garlic and at least 1 diced tomato...more if you like tomato. Cook for about 10 minutes, then add small can of tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp cumin, some fresh ground pepper and some sea salt. Cook a minute or so to blend flavors and then add one can of pinqutos or black beans, the chicken, carrots and quinoa. Again let flavors blend a bit then serve with a few black olives for decor. Yummy!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow!! That sounds really good Shari!! Hope I can find some Quinoa. Never have tried it.
Don...we had several honey bees..one day several weeks ago, when we had a warm day. I was glad to see them!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I noticed that the bees are much more plentiful already this year than last year when there was a noticeable bee shortage

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

This morning I found 8 seed pods on one branch of brugmansia Tommy Lockhart...the bees have been VERY busy here!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Funny thread:)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Lee If you do rent a car take a drive past diamond head, you will see "BlowHole", Haunauma Bay, eventually Kailua, Kaneohe. There are some pretty water falls on that side. That's where we lived for the two and a half years we were on Oahau in the 60's. Beautiful scenic drive, then you can cross back over the Pali thru the tunnel back into Honolulu! Gorgeous!

Hope everyone is having better weather! Ours was wonderful today. Got some more projects done! Grandson has been a wonderful helper!

Aloha!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I know the Dole Plantation is a tourist trap and a half...but there is a lot of botanical info there, and the maze is fun. Plus, the drive out from Hono is really wonderful.

Funny thread!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, and they serve really good fresh pineapple! The best!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Saw on the news yesterday that the National Park is closed on the big island. Volcano is really blowing its top. Carol, are you in any particular danger?

Aloha,
Kilikina

Should we maybe make a second thread - this one is getting long for the dial up folks...
