Need some company!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Hi all you tropickids! This forum has been extremely quiet lately! Carol is off visiting her new grandbaby, and spring chores are keeping us all busy I'm sure...but still! I'm missing you all! So, come on by, sit and chat, post a pic of what's blooming...share some joy!

Jenny - I have a bloom starting on my Cherokee!!!! I just saw it this morning and I am so excited!

Here is a pic of one of my lovely Ixoras...this salmon color is just gorgeous when the whole 5 ft is in bloom!

Yokwe all!

I'm here. Running late today. Had a riding lesson then had to run to town to get a pizza for dinner. lol.

The riding lesson was hard on my body. Had rubber legs and sore back for a little while.

Your Ixora is gorgeous!! I don't have any new pics to post yet. Nothing is blooming and my bulbs are still at the peeking stage.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

add Rj's computer crashed to the list!
Shopping for a new one..
I have been busy with the spring cleaning. Finished the re-landscaping in back garden and re-planted as well. Then cleaned out the garage and made it into a covered garden lounge..It looks great.
My folks are arriving next week...busy busy!

Hello! Glad to see you back - I thought I was talking to myself there for a while. The Ixora is beautiful, such a great bang for the buck. Happy your Cherokee is about to bloom, hopefully it will give you a big flush - give it plenty of food!

Sorry to hear about the computer RJ, still your new one will be right up to date and probably even better, I do hope you have managed to save all your info though.

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Lovely to see the tulips, Kim. We never see them here unless it's as cut flowers in Safeways, and they look rather bedraggled. I guess it's officially Spring in your neck of the woods.

Shari, I wanted to ask, are you now going into "autumn"?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi guys. Really tired tonight. The last two days have been beautiful and I have been trying everything to get ready for Spring. Mitch is moving to Oklahoma in a couple of months and he has been sharing his plants for 4-5 months now. I am really blessed from every direction. Mike and I went to his home just a short way from here this afternoon and absolutely filled the pickup with yet more plants. This is about the 5th or 6th time. I am really in a schizophrenic (sp) stage. I have veggies, Texas natives, whatever I think is pretty, and of course, my love of my life...TROPICALS. Really takes a lot of work trying to make everything happy. You would have to visit "Texas forum" to know who Mitch is. Another wonderful person on DG. Learned just today that he is Cherokee. What a blessing! Shari knows him I am sure as he writes many articles. Can't believe just how lucky I am to know all these wonderful people (all of you) from Dave's. Really working my mind hard to learn how and where to take care of all these different plants. Actually, trying to combine every area of the world in my back yard. Come see me sometime and we will enjoy how it is working out.

Just throw them together. I have red pepers growing with the palm trees, black eyed susan with the jade vine and morning glories with the bananas.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh happy happy !! Here are all my friends together again!

Pepper, how I envy your aches and pains! I miss riding, very, very much! You are lucky - just invest in a lot of linament!

Randy - I hate when that happens! The computer I mean. But I would love to see pics of the garage/garden room...please! I'm sure your folks will be very impressed at your landscaping abilities. And all those bizaarre combos look good, cuz of everything else you have around them...you have a very talented gardening eye!

Kim, what a beautiful pic! The tulips are so lovely, and that sky! Wowzers!

Jenny - I was wondering about putting it in a larger pot, but don't want to disturb roots when it is about to bloom, so I will wait. I am so excited. As far as seasons go...nah - we are pretty much same as you guys, springish, but really not much difference. Its supposed to be windy season - dry, but we have been getting much more rain than usual.

Christ - yep I know Mitch...a real sweetie. He and I exchange seeds/stuff, and chat a lot. We have similar feelings about the writing forum, so keep a lot of our chat to d-mail. You are indeed a lucky gal, getting all those plants! Not to worry, they will know they are loved, and settle themselves right into your "eclectic" garden, sighing deeply and sharing a sense of "home" with all the others. Lucky plants!

It is so good to talk to you all!!!

Hi Shari and everyone,
We are having very strong winds over here 80mph and it's cold too! There is not that much colour in the garden yet, Daffodils are about, so I've made you a brew and some lemon merinque pie.
Thanks for showing your flower pics, I can't wait for some warm spring days!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh Terri, how cute! You sure have my sympathies about the wind! Sounds more like here than what we expect from London! Keep your feet on the ground!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hello Everyone!! Pretty pics:)
No blooms here but I saw some at the flower show.
Time for bed..nite all.

Kim! Glorious color!! Night everyone heading toward slumberland, and have a nice evening to those of you not quite at that stage.

london England, United Kingdom

Thanks Shari! Funny you should say that about the wind and keeping my feet on the ground, we live near the bottom of a hill and I'm sure I flew some of the way down on my way home yesterday!!
Your tropical flowers are beautiful, hope to see lots more!
Do you have certain times of the year when you go diving? I do love seeing your underwater pictures too!

Hi Shari saw this thread and feel guilty ...I get a little obsessed about projects I love and I have been doing the Angel thing trying to learn and grow :) .I have missed talking to you all ...you must all be very busy and excited about the Spring thing ...I am so happy for you ...well we finally have our Summer heat ...in Autumn of course! Spring and Autumn are such busy times aren't they? I have been watching American Idol with interest as one of the blokes is an Aussie ...I think he is in the top three! anyone else watch it?
so nice to see everyone popping back in.
Happy gardening to you all ...I can sense the anticipation of warm sunshiny days and all that it brings.

would love to visit more but very preoccupied with other things just now!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Do keep up the posting. Spring has sprung here in our back of the woods, I'm just now hardening off some of my tropicals and brugs so there will be more to share later. Right now Southern bloomers are breaking loose! Wooohooo!

Thumbnail by Lily_love
Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh wonderful! The family is home. Carol is off on the mainland seeing her grandkids. Seems the wind is the subject of the day. Terri, can't imagine 80mph and cold too. Texas has a dry-line moving today and we are under burn bans everywhere. Of course, about the only real danger is when someone throws a cigarette out the window and there is soon a wild fire. The pear trees are in full bloom everywhere and they are beautiful. Lily, do you have dogwoods? I have always wanted one but they will not grow in our soil. East Texas has both white and pink blooms. My wisteria seems really late this year, the amaryllis too. On another thread, diehard said he heard on the radio that it will 200 years before Easter is this early again. Hope that Easter truly harrolds Spring. I'm so anxious for warm weather. Tired of looking at brown twigs and brown grass and brown dirt...and brown, brown, brown. Time for a laugh for all of you with ideal conditions. Later today will take a picture of my bouganvilla in a hanging basket. Been "keeping it alive" for 2 years now. Might be a good swap at the RU coming up soon. After seeing Jen's, this one begs the definition of boug. One more cup of coffee and it play in the dirt time. I never feel it is "work", more like a child making mud pies.

Love to you all.

How very nice to read this morning that everyone is still around, aloha to you all!

Christi, how on earth are you managing all those plants? You must be so busy with all your new babies! Today is your guess for the MG bloom, dawn has not yet broken so I haven't been to the lanai to check, but I think we are getting close...What on earth are you going to do if you win - more plants!

I am loving the pictures of the spring flowers and bouquets you are all posting - it's a joy to see everything waking up after their winters nap. We don't really have that here, just subtle changes such as the avocado and mango putting on their display of new flowers and the weeds growing like crazy after our winters rain, such as they are. The wild tomato plants are coming up everywhere, very small and very sweet but nothing seems to bother them, unlike the dismal failures we have had with "regular" tomatoes. I am posting a picture of one of the tomato patches, they get no water at all and yet give a huge crop. (Christi, this is along the edge of the pond to be)

Thumbnail by Braveheartsmom
Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh Jennie. To have such bounty. Wonder if the wild tomatoes would grow here.
Makes a lush ground cover besides having the sweet tomato. Showed Mike the brugs as I would like to plant the ones I started from seed today. They are about 3 feet tall and lost their leaves in the barn/makeshift greenhouse. Supposed to be 80 today and 90 tomorrow. Gonna have to get started because right now it is 55 and misting. ugh! Cannot believe that it has been three weeks today that we got home from Maui. It went so fast. Was going to try a mango or papaya seed but read it takes 5-6 years for fruit, or longer. Avacado even longer. I got spoiled really fast having papaya and banana for breakfast. We speak of you and your family every single day. First we had the anticipation and now the afterglow.

Hi - Just to let you all know I'm in San Diego getting some much needed medical attention. Have finally found a doctor who is determined to end the rash on my arms. I see him for a follow-up in two weeks. He did a biobsy and had blood tests done. Meanwhile Ii'm on antibiotics. I've got the horrible flu that's going around but I'm getting better.

I haven't been posting much but I come here regularly to see how my friends are doing so please keep posting.

Check out the Garden Design Forum. One of our members, deviantdeziner, and her partner won the BEST OF SHOW and two other awards in San Francisco.
go see the pictures and leave her a congratulatory note.

My friend Karen has made it to my house and is happily working to make a home for herself and her two dogs to add to me and my six dogs. Tony is back working for me.

I look forward to getting home in much better shape than I was when I left.

Love you all for being here.

katiebear

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey katiebear!!
The flu is the pits :( I'm glad you have a good doctor.
Get better soon :)
Kim

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh Katiebear! Please get well soon. What you are describing sounds way to miserable for a Tropickid to experience...happy healing!!!

Chrissy! G'day mate! Been missing ya girl! Your angels are looking glorious!

Christi - I too am enjoying a cooling off cuppa coffee - just came in from watering everything, now I need to go back out and do some cleanup...deadheading etc. My Hippies are blooming all over the yard, and then when the flowers are gone I have these stalks sticking up and looking odd all over the place. Gotta cut em down. I need to move two large bougainvilleas into more sun, and I just can't figure out where to put them. Funny how moving one or two plants turns into moving 10 or 12 plants! Yikes! Gotta wait for some muscle to show up before I can move them though...just thinking about it for now.

Here's a pic of one of my Desert Roses...some Tunera Ulmafolia in the pot as well for contrast color. I like the bright yellow next to the hot pink of the DR. This one is about 4ft. across and probably that high as well. Very old plant.

Thumbnail by Islandshari

Gee Shari I have missed you and everyone too ...so sorry to have been neglectful ...I get carried away on things I love and boy do I love Angels! (of the floral type as well as daves garden "angels" in the forums) .I am trying to tone down the addiction but please understand how a whole new world opened up here when I discovered through the forum that they came in other colours besides apricot and white! oh I had seen some pictures in our books but I thought they were stictly for tropical jungles and because I had never seen a seed pod on mine ...I thought it was some mysterious tropical trick like some rare exotic critter needing to pollinate them and we could only admire from afar. Bless that paintbrush! So I hope you all forgive me for my slack ways ...I hope everyone is basking in the joy of Spring to come (or Autumn) and settling in after all your adventures. Much love from the Angel nut :) Ps and K I hope you will be ok ...hugs mate!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

aaah..you mean angel trumpets...
My dear, I think we've all been obsessed with them one time or another. My obsession has finally subsided with this spring. I have given away 15 full sized trees I've grown from seed, with 10 more of various sizes waiting deportation.
I've kept about 5 trees. One inparticular I grew from seed when I first started into gardening. I grew it before the "named" brugs came into the picture. The blooms on it are extremely large. Notice that most brugs have 6 points on them, this one has 7, and another of mine actually have 8. Those were grown from seed about 8 years ago. wow time flies.

Hi everyone,
Lovely colours to see with all your flowers!
Jennie,I haven't seen a wild tomato before! wonder if I can get some for my allotment, what are they called? or is that a silly question!
Kim, your tulips look lovely planted on masse in the sunshine.
Kimarj, the flower show sounds great, got any more pics?
Chrissy, your angels look magnificent, G'day!
Get well soon katiebear.
Shari good idea to get everyone chatting again, love your Desert Roses.
Here's some Rainbow tulips to brighten the day.
Hi Randy,Wow fantastic!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Terri,
I was watching on the news last night all that wind ripping through England...quite a storm!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I heard about that storm also. Some storm.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, today I planted out the 4 brugs that I grew from seed last year. And here I thought I had found a private miracle. As usual, a few years behind. Still brugs in central Texas are not usual. Our predicted warm weather for today didn't happen until around 5:30 PM. Never mind, I worked all day anyway. Sure wish all of you were here with me tonight. Where is Jeanne?

Christi

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Teri - what a rainbow of tulip color! Hope that wind storm has died down, and did no damage. Christi - Who's years behind??? I just got my first one from Jenny a few months ago!!

Everyone sounds so busy, but we still take time to say Howdy, and share our day...ain't this just the coolest 'ole place???

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm here....still recooperating! Finally starting to feel a little better. I think I'll live!
Thanks everyone for your prayers!

Next week is our kids Spring Break so I hope to have my Grandson here in the middle of the week to help reorganize and get some things repotted. He's 12 and he's a lot of help! Hopefully DS will be feeling better as well.

My azaleas are in bloom. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. There's white, light pink, hot pink, and a rosy red. They are really pretty!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Aloha and Yokwe Y'all !

london England, United Kingdom

We didn't have any damage here thankfully, only a few pots blown over! Thanks for asking.
What is Christi years behind in ?!! lol

Good to hear you are feeling better pineapples lady! looking forward to seeing your Azaleas tomorrow, I don't have any!
Goodnight all, sleep well.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Terri, Christi is saying she is behind in growing brugs...not nearly as behind as I am! ha ha! You asked earlier about the diving. Sorry I didn't respond right away, I actually forgot in the midst of being excited with everyone back chatting again. Out here diving is a year round sport, as is snorkeling. I just haven't posted any pics lately, cuz it was so much fun posting with carriblue and he ducked out. I'll see what pics I can find that might be of interest.

Yokwe,
Shari

london England, United Kingdom

Thanks Shari, Shame Cariblue isn't posting, it really added to the whole tropical experience coming over here.
I'm looking forward to seeing your underwater pics which are just as interesting and beautiful as his anyway!! So glad to hear it's an all year round sport.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I really miss the underwater pictures as well!

I have a brug forest now, thanks to Randy and Jen! I have nine plants on the side of the house plus about six or eight others to find a location for, plus the ones that Jen sent last fall. Then I have another from a cutting that our mail lady gave me last year. I can't wait to see them all bloom.

I think some of them are going to replace banana trees out by the pond.
The Nanners just make too much of a mess over the pond. May put some of the brugs out there in large pots until I decide if that's their final destination. Some I think may go in the front where some of the very old red tip ferina (sp) are dying out. Going to be some reorganizing this year here, also, Shari!

I have a lot of baby amaryllis that I want to acclamate to full sun there as well.

Some things from the back have to go to the front....

Katiebear, hope you get well real soon. We are just getting over that crud....it was NO FUN!

Aloha

Oh 77 golly you too! ...I hope they all bloom their their heads off for you ...I hope you are feeling better and I know as a Nanna having the grandchildren around is about as good a tonic as any known to man ...have fun! and stay well.
Shari I am a little confused is it Autumn or Spring in your parts ...or maybe it does not really matter ...every day is perfect in paradise ...gosh wild tomatoes as ground cover ...wow.
Oh Rj ...so you have gotten over your Angel addiction ...I suppose after a few hundred I might start to settle down ...but for now it is a whole new Universe! and besides you have so many exotic beauties I guess they have just become one of the gang by now. That home grown cross is a beauty!
T at last Spring for you in England ...tell me what exactly is that ?temps I mean and the awful winds ...we get them too in late Winter /Spring ...they are called the August winds here ... so loud you cannot sleep for all the noise and you try to ignore the awful noises as you lay in bed hoping nothing comes crashing through the roof or the windows (gum trees drop heavy branches)
stay safe and warm.
Now LouC ...basking in the afterglow how lovely to hear that you are still on a high from that wonderful trip! keep that glow as you throw some dollars into your piggy bank each week in order to save up for the next trip back to Eden.
pepper has the snow stopped yet? amazing pictures! how soon before the sunshine for you?
BHM ...I wonder if you ever miss the seasons? probably not in such a beautiful place ...just curious that's all ...here we can have all the seasons in one day sometimes ...well all you lovely people great to have said hullo again and just in time for all the Spring rush ...so I guess you will be fairly busy in the garden ...isn't it great!
chrissy
