What's a Cottage Garden Without a Dog?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes, that is a wonderful scene, including the pupster!

PC, so sorry to hear of your 'recent loss.'

The guilty party... except she doesn't look in the least contrite, eh?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

How is it that they don't notice the plant material flying while they're digging? Grrrr. Is right. I know how you feel, Pagancat. Still, she's a pretty handsome dog.

It's great to have the dogs out in the yard with me while I'm gardening, but I particularly miss the help from the cats. There is nothing cuter than watching a senior cat (who is way too dignified to play most of the time) chase a butterfuly or dragonfly in the yard.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

OMG - wrightie....I just wanna hug him to bits - sweet boy!! Frankenpup....LOL - funny...painfully true, but funny.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Pagan: I think that dog of yours is laughing at you, no?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Welcome back Trixi. ^_^
Black dogs do make great companions in the yard, don't they?
I'm going to buy a 'puppy' pool soon though cuz Addy gets so hot in the sun, I think she might like it.

Happy, she does that a *lot*!

Denison, TX

I can't get my dog Geddy to use a swimming pool, but he does come up to me and wag his tail off until I wet him down. Texas is no place for a hairy dog!!

Sally G- Addy's a beauty- so is that little guy in the picture!

Trixi

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

aww thanks Trixi...
Addy went nutZ the first day in the pool. Good thing as we're havin' a heat wave
But she doesn't like to be sprayed with the hose, only to drink from it. All different personalities~~

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Speaking of swimming pools -- I have been shopping for those old-timey solid plastic baby pools that they used to have 'back in the day', but I cannot find one. They are all made of vinyl nowadays - not good for puppy teeth and ... just about anything "pokey." =)

Does anyone know where to find a pool that would be suitable for a dog? I have recently discovered that Zeb loves water and want to encourage him. Especially in these 90+ temp's.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I just got an el cheapo Kmart plastic 60 incher- blue with tropical fish on it, same one being made for the last 40 yrs in China probably- 10 99 at the K, maybe saw it in Toys R Us ad too for 9 99
Or I did have a nicer one for the lkids, with drain plug- Toys R Us I guess Little Tykes brand maybe

Oh, hey, did you maybe want Hawera daffodils bulbs from me? from the ill fated 'swap not attended'

HOLEY CARP, SALLY!

THANK YOU! MUST. FIND. A. K-MART or TOYS-R-US NEARBY!!!

Actually, where IS a toys-r-us near here? I think I know of one in Annapolis, not sure though.....

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yes Annap- right across from the Mall between the Rt50 entrance and rt 450
or
Crofton Kmart, opposite and slightly north of Crunchies
behind Friendly's , one of the well run Friendly's at that

mmmmvienna mocha chunk & ^)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

OH, Thank you, Sally! I always pass that plaza (& Good Friendly's!) without a blink and didn't realize it was there. We have to go to Waugh Chapel next week, so I'll swing by.

Chocolate Almond Nut and/or Pistachio yummy yum yum

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

glad to be helpful! the Friendlys and a puppy pool at Kmart are about the highlights of that plaza, no wonder they needed Waugh Chapel. I have to check out the Italian Market at Waugh Chapel. I brought back one bottle of wine, spent E 1.46 I think, it tasted fine to us! but longgggg gone.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Ah, well, good luck finding a bottle at The Market for that price! =)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

awww suck it up and share your bathtub with him...what's the problem....ROTFLOL

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Chantell, would you think More ... or Less [LOL!!] of me if I told you that I already have?!!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Wouldn't change MY thoughts at all...you GO girl!!! I had one pup afraid of water...dang straight if I didn't just climb on in with her...gots to do what cha gots to do

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Yup - that's why I got in the tub with him for his first bath. Looks like he's gonna be a water dawg though, cuz whilst out for a walk following one of our recent storms, he got The Zoomies in some big puddles. It was hilarious trying to keep up with him on the end of a 6 ft lead at top speed and lots of changes of direction. ROFL

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Now THAT I'd pay to see a pic of...LOL (with you not at ya!)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mine would freak if I got in with them. If we're both "drowning" in the evil tub, then who remains to pull us out? Little chicken dogs. ROFL.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wrightie good thing you have that running background
ha katie- I can picture that evil tub act

My spoiled brat now seems uninterested in her brand new pool Grr! (that was me)

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

I got my kiddie pool (for the dogs) at the local hardware store in the nursery dept (plants and trees) for under $10

fill it with rainwater from the barrels and Rocco will lay in it, Lacy will walk thru it, and F.Lucky drinks from it...... I sit on a chair and dip my feet........

to bathe my dogs, I get in the tub with them, hand held shower makes the job easier.....

My little girl "blossom" was smelling one this Sunday!

Hey Wrightie, you might want to think about starting a new thread, this one is draggin badly. I have one at the vets that's got a nasty female infection, she's going to have to be spaide, but I am going to check around for prices, he wants 2k, which is way over our budget, sigh. I'm going to check both my regular vet and with my DILs vet on pricing, it's a bit of a drive but hopefully it will be a heck of a lot less. Almost fell out of the chair when we were told the price. geeze peeze...... They have her on heavy antibiotics and we'll pick her up in the morning. My poor honey :(

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Poor baby - I hope she's more comfortable now. Huge price, guess it's because she has the infection? I'm sure you're worried. It will be so nice to have her back home.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Wow, $2,000 for a spay??? I don't think that our Dane's surgery was nearly so high (10 yrs ago)!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

hope doccats got good news by now, a wagging tail...

I discovered, one unattended hose later, that Addy likes her pool well filled, not no wussy two inches I was trying to get her interested in.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey, Sally, I picked up a pool today from the KMart in Greenbelt -- thanks for the tip! Zeb has been having tons o' fun splishsplashing in it.

Here he is fishing out his "woobie."

PS Doccat mentioned on the Giant Puppies thread that she does have good news. =)

Anyone have a photo of a dog in a cottage garden? Feel free to start the next thread!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Ask and you shall receive... the new thread is here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/862940/

I did get good news, Sassy is home and doing well. She was hand "fed" canned dog food this morning, cause she was feeling so bad. Talk about a "con".............LOL

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

So cute!!!! I can't believe it's so hot for you guys. We've had unseasonably cool and dreary weather - it's almost summer and we haven't even had a spring. We're all hoping it'll get to 65 this next week. And my lawn is still so wet I can't mow the wettest parts.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Geez, Katie - that's just crazy... 65? Shouldn't you be in the mid to upper 70's by now?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wrightie--chuckle--that the same pool I have except yours looks smaller...

by scale to th' pup LOL I bet its also the 60 incher

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Yess.... coolest start to June in years. And we haven't had many of the warmer days that dot our early months, either. Today finally got kind of warm - just in time for the sun to go down. LOL Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 70's. Yippee.

Now we all have to go out and buy our vegetables starts and start over.
