They bloom one or two blooms ever once in a while. They are small plants.

(Zone 1)

Oooh ... Those are beauties! I had a Christmas Cactus blooming about two weeks ago .... just two flowers, the coral color. My pink ones all bloomed at Christmas and were so pretty.

(Zone 1)

Cedar - would love to see a pic of your Easter Cactus! I never know the difference ... have heard them all called Holiday Cactus - mine sometimes bloom at Christmas and again around Easter and last year two of them even bloomed late summer.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

oooo I would love to Lin..here is the red one....it looks kinda dark..lol...under natural light its a real orange/ red combination

Thanks Lin....hmmm .. count on some cuttings headed your way after shes finished blooming. It could use a good haircut : )

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I hadn't seen one before very beautiful.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks makshi..wanna trade a few cuttings when the weather warms a bit? I would absolutely Love a couple pieces of your pink : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Those are magnificent blooms, cedarnest and makshi.............they don't do well in our heat........maybe only at Christmas time.................but they are great looking plants and blooms!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Amy, that pink is just beautiful! For reason my pink one was SO finicky compared to the red. My red one is HUGE but I finally had to throw the pink one away as I just couldn't keep it happy. Do you find the pink to be harder than the red?

Those are stunning!

Kim

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

cedar I would love to trade a piece of mine. It isn't large so it would be a small cutting.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Makshi that would be wonderful! Thank You! I will wait til shes finished blooming then send you some right out. When my computer died before Christmas all my DG trading records went with it so now I have a heck of a time matching up my plants with who I received them from : (...I am smarter now and will put it in my trade tracker and on paper..LOL

Edited to add: Kim...I wish I was Amy(I couldn't resist)..LOL..shes a heck of alot better grower than I am : )The pink one I have never had a problem with but for me...the red one gets sulks from time to time...

Oh GOODNESS Nancy........My face is SO red right now. What a foolish mistake to make :( I'm sorry. DUH! I HATE Mondays!

The pink one was a real problem for me for some reason. My red one is robust and in fact started off as cuttings from my great granmother's plant. The pink one just languished until it got so pathetic I had to give it a funeral :(

I have never seen them for sale in Maine :(

Tina wrote an article that I thought did a great job of clearly explaining the differences between Christmas & Easter cactus types -- http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/392/

Cedarnest, that pink one is gorgeous... with that foliage, I think the blooms are just the icing on the cake! I'll sure have to find something to tempt you into a trade some time...

I've got a big one with hot pink & white blooms (similar to Makshi's, I think), and it can definitely spare some cuttings when it's time to start sending out trade boxes. I've got another color (red with a little purple, I think, although it didn't bloom this year), but it's a much smaller plant.

Found a photo of the other variety! I seem to remember more purple than this photo shows, maybe down the throat of the flower or at the base of the bloom...

I'm still recovering from a January virus (ack!), so I'm not making plans too much in advance... but I'm definitely hoping to do some leaf trades this spring so I can get my AV shelves filled up again! I'd love to trade with you, Nancy... and a little Easter/Christmas cactus trade on the side would be great!

Beautiful orchid cactuses everyone!!! I love both the Christmas & Easter types. I finally got a couple of small Eater ones last year so we'll see if they bloom again this year! I LOVE the 'passed down' orchid cactuses from g-mas and such. The Christmas ones passed down from years ago are probably going to be different than the ones we have today as years ago they re-hybridized them so now they're a little different.
I have several different colors of Christmas ones- pink, red, white, and finally last C-mas I found a little 3"pot of YELLOW! So pretty!

(Zone 1)

Critter: That photo of your hanging basket is Awesome! Beautiful plant in full bloom!

Oooh Diane, do you have a pic of that yellow one in bloom? I've had the yellow one on my wish list for a long time but have never seen it for sale locally. Almost bought a white one this year when I saw them for sale at Wal-Mart but must have gotten sidetracked! I have a few pink ones and I think a lilac color (can't remember for sure) and one that I swear years ago was pink but reverted to a coral color!

I have a few small Epiphyllum's too ... some have not bloomed for me ever! I guess they might if I took proper care and fed them! My big E. Hookerii blooms every year but none of my smaller ones have bloomed that I'm aware of, unless I've just missed it!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I did Lin! The blooms were half-dead when I got it but I didn't care! I chanced across it at Lowe's.
I have some Epi. too. I have a few bigger ones then some new ones. Have only had 1 bloom on an E. oxypetalum and was SO excited. Last year the squirrels dug it out of the pot and it disappeared! I'm hoping maybe this year my Showboat or strictum will bloom as they're now fair sized.
I would be happy to share my white one with you if you'll overlook the condition of the leaves. We had a sudden bad hail storm last year that made all my plants either look like they had pock-marks or had worms eating holes in them. The white one is a pock-marked one. LOL

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

I thought this one was going to be white. Peachey would be more like it. A sister plant has at least thirty blooms set. This one only three or four. Both plants the same two years old.

Nice peachy colour!!

dosgipe, what a wonderful bloom. Please tell me what kind of plant it is.

Mount Desert, ME

Hey All,
Has anyone ever tried to cross jungle cacti onto one another? I was just wondering about the mechanics of it. I love to pollinate things....

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

doc I love the orange color.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

gessiegail......the plant is a Christmas Cactus. I will have cuttings and would share when the bloom is over if you would like to root a cutting. They are not hard to root.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are too nice but our summer heat will kill them before it is time for them to bloom. Today in south Texas the temps ranged from 90 to 100 degrees . Even we were shocked.
(and summer isn't even here yet)

They are magnificent looking blooms for sure!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It was 90 degrees yesterday and today will be the same. Look what I found on the front porch when I ws watering this morning. Cicada sent her to me last summer and I thought she would probably never bloom since I know nothing about orchids.

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

You've got the 'orchid touch', too. : ) So glad it's blooming for you.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, Cicada...........can you believe how well they are doing? I just bought some for 5.00 each from Lowes but I have to get them going and planted the right way. I can't wait!
