Had no idea coffee roasting was a 24/7 kind of business! ( trying not to say "I guess it's a real grind" or "at, least you have the caffeine for a 24/7 business) But , why is it so demanding?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

People drink it 24/7!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

LOL Dave!

The reason it was so time consuming is it was a one-man operation, he did everything from testing 100's of varieties of coffee in small batches (we would get boxes from the brokers with 40-50 1/2# bags of green coffee from 10-20 different farms in that particular region throughout the growing season -- he would have to roast them all individually and then decide which ones he wanted to buy based on his different espresso blends .....the green would arrive on pallets, usually 6-8 bags per pallet, each bag weighing approx. 120#......we usually had about 100 - 150 bags in stock, rotating throughout the seasons....

He had many commercial accounts, coffee shops and restaurants and he had an on-line business also, so he roasted for the commercial accounts 3 days a week and for the internet 3 days a week.....did all the blending, packaging, shipping, etc...

He also did barista training for his commercial accounts, was the area distributor for a couple espresso machines, he'd also do "tastings" with groups the coffee shops would put together and at the roastery,............I could go on but you're bored I am sure....

He loves coffee and the farmers we had direct relationships with, and he is still working with them but the crazy-making stuff is over........

Actually sounds pretty interesting, mrsj. Did he ever have coffee jitters??

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Honestly - no! We never get the jitters, and we do drink quite a bit of coffee!!!

and when you "cup" coffee (sampling the offerings) you sip, slurp and spit! Very similar to wine tasting!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's interesting. How do you 'cleanse the palate', like you do with wine?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Donuts!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Or maybe wine?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

a good swish with Pellegrino....and spit!

(real pretty, huh?)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Such images that conjures up!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glamorous!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I told you it was pretty!!!!

I'd never want to cup with a group!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Who knew! xx, Carrie

First time in a while we were out-posted by another forum (excluding games).

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Only because we have spring blooms now Victor! In another couple months we will all be either hiding in the house or vacationing in San Diego!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe, though the really good weather hasn't started here yet. We have had some nice days here and there but not an extended period yet.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

By the time your spring gardening starts it will be in the 90's here.....heck, its supposed to hit 91 today - "unseasonably warm" they call it!

By late June it will be 110 and climbing!

My daily outdoor schedule - 5AM - swimming in my pool; 8AM leave for office in air conditioned car; park in air conditioned garage, work in air conditioned office.....reverse and home by 5PM for another swim and then in the house...back out again around 9PM for a few minutes and then off to bed!

Periodically check the drip system to make sure everyone is getting their 4X a week deep soak and pray for Fall!

the grass is always greener!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes it is! That's quite a bit too hot for me - even though it's a DRY heat!!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I can relate to this.....

Hee hee. (9!)

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Has anyone grown this? I have sown seeds here in Phoenix and plan on giving it a try in upstate NY gardens......

Pimpinella major, sometimes commonly called greater burnet saxifrage, is a clump-forming perennial that somewhat resembles Queen Anne’s lace. ‘Rosea’ is much more popular than the species because of its more attractive pink flowers. It typically rises to 3-4’ tall and to 2’ wide. Pink flowers bloom in summer in large, flat, terminal compound umbels atop upright stems. Pinnate compound basal leaves (to 7” long), each with 3-9 ovate to lanceolate toothed leaflets, are medium green.

Nope.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm not familiar with that plant.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Have you grown them before, or are you looking for advice.

They look like beautiful blooms, too!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

(I'm trying to increase the posts. Can you all tell?)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha. Should we lower ourselves to posting one word replies, etc.??

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

We should.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Really?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Why not?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Hi!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Easier for me to keep up with the threads if I post just one word replies! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Hi back atcha!!
We love one, two, or even three word posts.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Should we institute a maximum word limit??

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I actually prefer shorter posts - sometimes skip over the long paragraphs. Lack of time, I guess.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Sure. Four.
