only one word for that story--Ewwwwww!!

Water Cooler - 6
I agree, Victor, the moose looks chocolate. And if it is, I have just two words: WATCH OUT! xx, Carrie
So what seeds is everyone sowing indoors this weekend?
Anna and I did some last week, and we are continuing this week. We had to take a break and go to HD where they are selling some 5-shelf units for just under $40 each. Now, we just have to keep the cats from climbing the shelves and sitting in the sunshine.
We're thinking of planting the marigolds in the starting cells this week end, but not sure how deep into the soil to push the seeds. Anyone know?
I haven't done any yet. Will do lavatera soon. Not sure what else.
Candyce I can only tell you what I have done with Marigolds. I don't use individule cells. I will take 2-3 packs and spread them in a germination tray and cover the seeds with dirt (not with a lot but cover them). They germinate and pull them out one by one. I prepare my pots with moist dirt. I will poke a pencil in the dirt or my finger what ever comes first and shove the root in and pinch the dirt around.
I have a packet of seeds here that says sow 1/4". I think I would go a tad deeper like 1/3". Now I can be totally off on this so let's get an expert to advise :-)
Getting ready to head to Houston for a week tomorrow. When i get back i'll start starting seeds.
i always find preparing for travel to be REALLY stressful. AAACCCKKK.
I usually get some jitters too. Have a good trip!
I'm preparing to go to Utah for three days to visit DH's grandchildren. (My step-grandchildren.) Almost had a two-person RU at the SLC airport w/a DG trader from there, but since we'll be travelling with my 26 y.o. step-daughter who is not particularly enamored of me, I decided against the attempt. xx, Carrie
Carrie, safe and pleasant trip. Don't you hate family "situations" that aren't so great no matter how hard you try? Patti
Yes, Patti, and I do try hard. Ha ha ha, I just thought of what seems to ME to be a funny joke! Of course, we know that's not always a good indicator of whether it is ACTUALLY funny. But I am wife #2 but I do try harder! ha ha ha ha ha tee hee hee. xx, Carrie
Candyce asked, yesterday, what everyone's sowing indoors.
This past week I did a few Tomato, Burpee Heirloom 'Mortgage Lifter', and Sunrise Lupines - they sprouted Saturday. This week I'll be doing my Love-in-a-Puff, Coreopsis 'Mahogany Midget', Salvia 'Reference' and 'Coral Nymph'.
I haven't started anything yet, but I will be. The list is too long. Once I get started, I'll post what seeds I've sown.
Was hoping to get started outside today but man, it's cold!!
Isn't it though?!!
The wind is brutal! The temps say 34 but because of the wind we are at 23 and it goes right through you!!!!!
I had plans to do some work outside today, but I think I'll work inside instead!
Carrie, I see you are definitely back from your scare and feeling much better and cabable of being totally silly again. Glad for you.
I have lots of seedlings germinating already from March 13th.. It must be the new heat mat. I will make a list after I see which ones I don't manage on killing. But it is a hopeful sign. Patti
Well, we didn't get to sow indoors last week end, so we will be trying again this week end. We are all still feeling a little drained from the flu. Gosh! It's hanging on a long time.
Thanks, everyone, for your advice. It will be put to good use for sure. I can't WAIT for REAL SPRING!
My 15-yr-old is going to the Boston Anime Convention this weekend. (Anime is t.v. shows, and Manga is comic books in Japanese.) It's like those Star Wars-type conventions where you dress up like your favorite characters, buy stuff, and "be cool".
She's going as a ninja-type character one day - we ordered that outfit, to be hand-sewn, from Hong Kong. Darned if I was going to sew all that fabric! The next day she's going as a high school character in a school uniform.
Ah, the joys of being young! (Although I don't know why they're having it on Easter weekend.)
Because anime and manga are japanese!! I sort and file the manga at the young adult room in our library here in Saugus. Some of the older volunteers can't deal with it, since they are printed the japanese way, reading it right to left. This makes the "back" of the book the "front". My niece likes to draw manga. It is very popular.
Martha
Yes, Martha, that's what my dd likes to do - draw it.
Mine too.
We should get them to draw a DG manga. Like Super Freaky Gardener or something like that! We could be famous!

Already dying from allergies. It's given me full-blown cold symptoms. been miserable for the past three days. Did not expect it this early or I would have started my pills. Bummer.
oh, sorry Victor!
Thanks, Deb. Worse with the kids home and preparing for family this weekend.
The kids off for Easter? I've been fortunate not to have allergies.
Yes they're off from today through Tuesday.
Through Tuesday? Good Grief!
Yes, Patti, I feel ridiculous again, fear not.
My new-to-me car is being dropped off tomorrow in exchange for exactly the amount the insurance co. paid!!! This (new-to-me) one has a 4-liter (instead of 6-liter) engine, which I think is fine. We haggled for a heated driver's seat and an aftermarket sunroof, which I will probably use simultaneously. It has 15,000 miles instead of 7,000, but in 2 - 3 years it won't make any difference. It has all the same adaptive equipment (which fortunately was insured to the max).
xx, C
Carrie, glad you are back in a car. Victor, sorry about the allergies. I got up to Vt last night. The car up here was stuck in the ice. We had to pull it out with the other. A huge Mountain of snow is piled around the house. Any thoughts I had about doing anything outside except walking down the middle of the road is out. DH went skiing. I can see only bare ground on one southern facing part above a stone wall and the garden. I need snow shoes. I feel like Pixie. Fortunately we had hired for the first time ever, a gent from down the road to keep the snow cleared out of the drive and off the roof or the house would have been inaccessible. I am weeks ahead of last year in Nantucket and weeks behind in VT. Patti
Homes in Nantucket and Vermont Patti? I am soooooo jealous!
I can feel it starting - I am going to be whining all day now!!!!
I am very happy for you though.....
Mrsj, I was very careful in deciding where I would live and start businesses. I grew up in Oklahoma and knew that I wanted to move east in the 60's and got lucky with my choice of new spots. Found Nantucket as a summer waitress job spot in 1964 and Vt in the mid 80's as a place for a second store. I am now mostly retired having sold both my bookstores/cafe. Living the good life now in two wonderful spots. I should probably move out to your dry west for health reasons, but I do love my two quiet spots east coast homes. Patti
That's great Patti!
My husband recently sold his coffee roasting business -- he was a specialty roaster for many years, now he is doing consultation's only....the coffee business requires a 24/7 lifestyle and we wanted to spend more time together.... at one pomt we actually considered opening an espresso bar/bookstore back East, but could not find the right spot!!!
Interesting, mrsj. Did he bring you the grounds?? Hope so!
There are no grounds when you roast the coffee Victor - and he sold whole-bean roasted coffee only ....but we do put our used coffee grounds in the gardens, my roses, daylilies and iris love it!
It's great for just about everything.
It's the drinking of it that I enjoy!
I especially love my new espresso machine he plumbed/wired into the kitchen!
Sat: Cable and TV working.
Sun: Out Called the cable Co. - will have a tech out in 2 days.
Tuesday: - tech came. The problem is up on the road. He checked the TV and everything up to the road. A Crew will come and fix the problem up at the road in 2 days. (HDMI is having problems with the new box).
Thursday - no TV ( internet fine and phone) CALLED - TV is not working.
Friday - 3:00 P.M. - Called again. We cant come till Monday. WAHT? THAT is a week without TV. My husband will be livid and said to get rid of you. We want TV now!
Now just got a phone call saying they will be here Sat. between 12-4 .
The tech guy came and replaced everything from the TV and out. I give him credit as he replaced a connector outside the house and now the computer is FLYING. On the other hand I think the cable system Sucks for repair.
Fortunately we have a cable tv office here in town that is open M-F. you can pay your bill and pick up a new remote when you wear one out {Like we did!} or drop it and it fails to start up again {like we did} or have trouble with the cable box. We just unplug it and take it down the hill and swap it for a new one. This has fixed the problem the last three times and the problems were far apart. No lines no waiting.
Martha
