Everyone loved Wanda Lust!
ultimate garden fantasy
That girl really got around!
I like wrap around porches and victorians myself.
I think pirl's fantasy is the RCMP - her gardens are already beautiful!!! LOL
i hear they always get their man..!
First, win the PowerBall. Second, buy about 200-300acres...after winning PowerBall...all of the following would be after winning the PowerBall...lol.
Move atleast to Zone 7...I would prefer North Carolina...near Emerald Isle, or possible on the outskirts of Wilmington. Next, bring Gertrude Jekyll back, and work with her on a huge garden, no stops, and just let it rip. No small thing...lol.
You think winning the Power Ball would help you bring Gertrude Jekyll back? Wow, in Massachusetts we have the Lottery, but it's only money! LOL! xx, Carrie
pirl's fantasy is Real Cold Mashed Potatoes????
LOL Seandor!!!! I don't think so!!!
You're sure?
I have learned on this forum you can NEVER be too sure LOL
Victor, you said, "I like wrap around porches and victorians myself." Victorian ladies?
I'm getting so many more ideas for my fantasy garden from reading everyone else's: privacy acreage, a stream, Johnny Depp . . .
Have to be careful, though by definition, any lady of mine is Victorian. Hee hee.
Oh Victor you are so corny LOL!!
Oh, I get it - VICTORian!
groan.
do you like painted ladies, victor?
Yes - I've received a number of those emails.
Let's try to get back on track(which I know won't happen for long)
In our old house we lived on a lake and I had huge plans for creating a gazebo and all this lakeside landscaping, but then we moved, oh well. I guess it's better than doing all that work and then leaving.
I am hoping to do a deck and pergola soon.
I would like to clear out the brush and PI at the back of our yard on the canal. Put in a retaining wall on the slope. Put in a garden at the bottom of the slope. The pic is of what the area looks like now (if I got the right pic). I also fantasize about someone helping me with the work (and enjoying it)!! Eleanor
edit: I think that someone might be the one in the pic - DH!!

That's a great garden fantasy, if hubby could get some gardening wisdom and actually WANT to help do some gardening chores with me. I'm training my 5 yr old, he knows more than hubby.
Eleanor, what is PI?
My DH wants to help, he just hasn't a clue. Like earlier when it first started to freeze and snow, I was worried about some pots - empty ceramic pots I had left outside. Dear husband saved the day - by bringing in the zone 5 perennials in terra cotta pots that were weather proof and winter proof, and leaving out the fragile, empty pots. He thought I was worried about the PLANTS! We are just not set up to overwinter PLANTS inside. So now, I have a patio full of broken pots AND a garage full of dead plants in intact pots!
LOL :>( xx, Carrie
Poor DH, at least he tried.
PI = Poison Ivy!! Eleanor
Oh, I thought you had Private Investigators all over your yard! LOL!
I need Private Investigators to locate the poison ivy before I absentmindly walk through it!! Eleanor
Yes, DH tries very hard. I love him very hard. x, Carrie
This is a fun thread. I have two garden fantasies. The first is the one that will probably never come to pass - a large (100+ acres) piece of land with stunning mountain views, a natural river or creek running through it (must be active all four seasons). Lots of mature deciduous and evergreen trees. I'd then create a network of walking paths and plant native woodland shrubs and gems all throughout. It would be very natural - except perhaps a little neater and more "planted" than you would normally find in nature.
My second fantasy garden is what I'm currently working on creating - but the fantasy part comes in because I want it all done this year instead of the 5-7 years it will probably take! Instead of 100+ acres, I have a little less than 1/2 acre. I don't have mountain views, but I kind of sit up on a little hill - so that's close, right? No natural stream on my property, so I created a 70 foot recirculating stream with 4 little waterfalls. My goal is to landscape every square inch of my little plot of land so everywhere I look I see something of beauty. I don't want to drive by and see everything there is to see all in one glance. I want secret gardens, winding paths, garden rooms. I want to be surprised when I turn the corner and see a profusion of blooms that can't be seen from anywhere else. I want to have lots of benches hidden in these nooks so I can stop and smell the something-other-than-roses (not enough sun) and escape reality for just a little while. I don't know how I will do this with under 1/2 acre, but that's my fantasy and I'm sticking to it.
edited to increase my fantasy acreage - it is a fantasy afterall

Sounds great, Songs! Keep us posted (with photos!) on your more doable fantasy.
Gladly. All I have to console myself right now are pictures since I'm still buried in snow. Here's my first little secret garden room. This patio is surrounded on three sides by my stream so it's my favorite spot in my yard so far. You can't tell from the picture, but there are 6 rhododendrons to the right forming one of the "walls". They have some growing up to do before it really begins to feel like an enclosed room though. I plan to add some shrubs behind the patio as well to enclose the back and hide the shed.
Wow - what a gorgeous secluded spot! Great shade plantings. And a stream to boot? I am really jealous.
Breathtaking! Did you have someone do the stream or did you do it yourself? How many gallons total?
I did everything myself, except DH did the plumbing and helped me with a few of the largest rocks. I am guessing that the stream holds somewhere around 350-400 gallons as there are little pools at the base of each of the waterfalls. The pond (not pictured) holds about 3000 gallons.
Songs,
(♫ ♫ ♫) I'm always afraid that damp areas like that will create the kamikaze mosquitoes I remember from my childhood. Do you find that is a problem? It looks just too luscious for words! Is there a lot of maintenance? (Can you tell what I'm planning for my NEXT birthday? Wonderful. Can your reality be my fantasy?)
xxxx, Carrie
Carrie,
Mosquitos prefer stagnant water such as swamps, still ponds, wet lands or even bird baths. They won't lay their eggs in moving water. So I have never had problems with increased mosquito activity.
There is really no maintenance involved with the stream. The pond requires a little - filters hosed down a few times a year, spring and fall cleanup. But the stream just babbles on without a care! The only maintenance I do with my stream is play with the rocks to create different sounds and patterns :o) If you don't want the maintenance of a pond, consider a pondless stream. I love my pond, but I love the stream most of all.
I would love a pondless stream, but might just settle for a waterfall fountain for now. Last year, I thought I was almost done with my garden, but now know that I am just beginning, and will never be done!
Songs, Beautiful! I would like to add a stream to my pond.
Songs- your yard is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the pics coming.
