Oh very neat!!! Thanks Dinu!

How cute! When you hear the babies chirping, does it sound like only one voice or more than one?

Sounds like two.

awwww so precious.

As an aside, small brood size like this is typical for a lot of tropical birds - more competition for food resources, and fewer daylight hours in the summer for feeding. So feeding a large family of 5 or more nestlings (as found in many temperate species) just isn't possible.

Ah, that's some good information Resin. Thanks.

I told I heard two squeaks. And I was right. Look here, two mouths being fed by the mother. A short while before the father too fed and went.

And since last evening, I'm seeing an empty nest - through the fibrous material. The squeaking sounds are heard from the tree nearby. I'm sure they are the ones chirping with that low 'voice'. They don't know how to 'sing' as yet. I hope they will survive and fly around here. I now see the date of this thread above. It must have been there for - in my rough guess - at least a week or two before I noticed. So it has taken about 5-6 weeks for the bird to get ready and take wings. I tried to spot the sound from the tree branch, but could not locate. It's been so interesting watching it, watching the parents fly up and feed. Once I'm convinced that the birds wont return to the nest, I'll pull the branch down and examine.

That would be about right; egg laying to fledging is typically around 4-5 weeks for small passerines. Best to leave the nest for a while yet as they may still be using it to roost in at night even if out during the day.

awww, well congratulations on a successful nest!

Thanks for the info Resin, will follow your instructions and keep my curiosity at bay for a while.

Ed, Thanks a lot.... I did just watching... while the little birdie took all the trouble making the nest and laying the two eggs. I'm also happy that sunbird family took us to confidence to make their home right in the passage which we use a few times during the day. They probably studied me photographing and doing no harm before deciding on the spot!!

Resin,

I watched the nest for a couple of weeks. Found no activity, but I could recognize those familiar young tweets from different places in my garden - they have begun to fly around! I removed that branch and nest. Now that entire shrub is gone - cut.. to make way for some renovation, the story [long] of which is mentioned in a different thread.

I felled this nest while trimming the Almond tree branches. Felt bad, but then I could not see this when I pulled the branch down using a long pole to the end of which was tied a hook-knife.

I forgot to tell that this is a nest seems to have been made by Tailor bird looking at the stitches there. Now we see how it looks inside.
