We got an inch of snow yesterday. No rain, like you southerners got. Pretty nice out today.
Had to go into town and they had wildflower seeds for 5 packs for a buck. Yahoo.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING, YAHOO!!!!!... NOW THAT IS SOMETHING TO SCREAM ABOUT....This winter was way to long.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Happy Spring everyone. I watched the sun come up. It was just this big old orange ball in the sky and is shining so brightly. Our snow is melting slowly which is what I want. I do not want major flooding. If it gets a bit above freezing and it melts a tad at a time I'll be happy. More and more grass is showing. I walked around and looked at the flowers and trees around the house. The rabbits have done a number on the bark of some trees and roses. Darn rabbits. I saw my tulips I planted last fall coming up along with all the daffodils. I got the deer repellant out and sprayed everything in hopes to keep the deer off of them.

Hubby pruned one apple tree and has six more to go. He left the branches on the ground and the deer came in and were eating them. Saves us from having to pick them up and feeds them. We have to get the fruit trees all sprayed as well before they bud out. We're late getting to this stuff because the weather has been so uncooperative.

Hope everyone enjoys this day.

Brenda

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

well we actually have a winter storm warning thru friday night we have a chance of getting around 8 in..... |:} OF COURSE WE DO NOT WANT MORE SNOW!!! sorry i didnt mean to yell!!! Ronna

sorry you all down south are getting more snow Its supposed to miss us up here
Gloria

Millington, MI(Zone 5b)

By all means-yell, throw things, kick the dog. Enough is enough! We are only supposed to get trace amounts here, but there's a chance of snow almost every day this week. I protest!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

3 to 6 inches coming here. I could just spit bullets. I've been eating non stop (as if that will help!) So much for the Easter egg hunt on Sat!!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I hear ya Sarv, our church is putting on an Easter Dinner with an egg hunt, they are saying 4 to 8" here :( I am so sick of this weather. GH got up to 80 today, it was great to play out there for a while.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Saw the snow coming. Gee, isn't that too bad that it is going to miss us. snicker.
Of course we still have glacier snow from last year around. Last night we went for a walk in the woods and hubby stepped off the trail and went over his boots. That wind was pretty cold too.
We did see a couple sandhill cranes fly in while eating supper. The male started to dance for the female. It was a great show. Quite the x rated show out front the last couple of days. Spring fever in the swamp. LOL

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

morning c parts hay are you going to the Gladwin home and garden show next Friday ?? I think I am with my bil gardenerbill I have to work 1/2 day so be there around 3

Gloria

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Looks like the snow should miss us of just get a trace! holding breath it misses me so I can Tease Connie (pepsidrinker) Her DH ask me to send him snow since we got hammered with it here all winter so i said OK! guess who has gotten the last few storms-Connie!! :)

I totally believe in-be careful what you wish for!
I wish for a HOT summer, a early summer, with just enough rain for the farmers-cuz i have 100's of feet of hose! oh ya and NO rainy weekends for all the JOB working gardeners! Cant forget this too-NO WIND!! Thats my perfect summer weather wish!!!

I potted more lilies yesterday and the snow drops I got for postage :)
The lilies i potted last week are popping out of the DIRT already!
It was so nice in the GH all afternoon, got lots done!!!

HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

ROFL @ Dori ok he got the first snow you sent this way, now STOP IT!!! lol enough is enough we have robins galore. :( gonna freeze the tail feathers off lol...

I got all the Lilies potted up in the gh Dori and while I was out there yesterday evening cleaning up my mess, I saw a bunch of gnats :( gotta go take care of those this AM b4 the 4 to 8" snow comes our way today :( gonna have to spray out there. Don't know if I took care of the ones in the house, but so far so good!!! I got everything sprayed and will do a repeat next week just to make sure.

I like the sound of your perfect summer, :o) I say ditto to it ;-)

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm glad the snowstorm is missing us too. My tuplips I planted last fall are up and so are the daffodils. I sprayed them all with deer repellant so the varmits won't tear them up. I'll have to be vigilant about keeping them sprayed. I really want to see those red tulips among all the yellow daffodils.

I do believe they got more snow downstate this year than we did up north. I still have snow on the ground but it is melting nice and slow. Most of the snow is gone around the house. I want to get out there again today and pick up some of the uncovered dog poopies that I missed on the last turd hunt. If it dries out enough I might do a little raking here and there to get rid of the little round rabbit turds. I really hope it's all gone by Sunday or at least most of it is gone. I see a lot of damage done by the rabbits chewing on the bark of my roses and some trees. I sure wish somebody would eat those cute little bunnies. :) Last night the dogs started barking and looking out the bedroom window. I have no idea what was going on but I heard a gunshot at 4 a.m. and it's still dark ?? Who knows. I wasn't about to go outside to see. Maybe some poachers ??

We're still working on pruning our apple trees. We have one done and about six more to go. :( We got to get them sprayed too. We're behind in our schedule. Has everyone else already done this? Need to pick up more fruit tree spray too.

Would be nice if we'd get a nice 50 degree day but I'm not holding my breath.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and a Happy Easter.

Brenda

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

We havent even started pruning yet! so your way ahead of us! Been so darn cold and windy and i still have tons of snow left to wade through! Darn the blizzard of 08
Im going to have to get DH on the tree spraying--he is working on my camaro! He just redid the rear frame and now is putting in a new trunk!! love him! :)

I have been playing in the GH where at least its warm and im kinda outside! ;)

Lake, MI

Hi eveyone
Guess what I saw yesterday on my way to Mt.Pleasent?
TWO ROBINS
The day before saw my first redwing blackbird and a small owl on a dead branch.
Ah could this be a sign it finally going to get warm out!
I am so ready
Amos

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

The signs of spring are here for sure.

loon, probably someone shooting coons in their bird feeders or garbage. We hear shots in the middle of the night all the time. Usually find out later it is someone fed up with some kind of skunk or varmit.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

It's snowing to beat the band here...downright disgusting. Roads are getting slick. I just returned from the local garden center where I pick up a zillion seeds....that made me smile. A plantin' I will go...a plantin' I will go...

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Snow you say? awwwwhhh too bad. snicker snicker.

You could go out and make a snow bunny for Easter.

(I am now ducking, you have a good left punch there)

What kind of seeds did you get? I got a good deal on some wildflowers.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

smack...splat...curses...

I got:
yellow pepper
two kinds of rubeckia
alyssum
and I'm too lazy to get up and see what else!!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Well Dori, Ken is getting hammered on lol. This is going to be the worse snow we have had this winter... I will try to take some pics tomorrow if I have time while the ham is baking. I made Ken bring my boots in from the van, good thing to cause looks like I will have to be wearing them :( I am so ready for SUMMER...

This is a picture of the last snow fall we had.

This is what we got last night... My neighbor actually got her son out side to shovel half the drive way.

Thumbnail by pepsidrinker
La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

The gh was put to a test with so much snow on the roof, but dh shoveles a path and when he opened and closed the door, most of it fell off :o) We ended up with about 10"

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh my goodness. Ten inches of snow!! I guess the real spring won't be here for a while. Maybe next month ?? I love your greenhouse by the way. Awesome! At least you have a warm place to go sit and drink coffee and dream about spring. :)

It was sunny and nice here yesterday but cold. We decided to get some help in here with the trees. I hired my son's friend who is into landscaping. We all worked together with the pruning and picking up the sticks. I feel like the trees got a really good thinning out and good haircut. This should really rejuvinate them. This is their "off" year where they don't produce as much. We were so tired and cold being outside from ten in the morning till four in the afternoon that we decided to finish up on Monday. We'll pick up the rest of the sticks and spray the dormant oil on all the trees. I had to drive to Standish to buy the oil and I also got a couple bottles of fruit tree spray.

Happy Easter everyone! I'm up before the sun. I got my jello and deviled eggs done last night. I'm going to make a banana pudding this morning. Dinner will be early around noon or one and we're having ham. I still have to bring the granddaughter's Easter stuff up from the basement and fill all her little eggs up. Hubby gets the job of hiding them around the yard. I guess she'll be bundled up in a snowsuit to keep warm so she can hunt her eggs. At least most of the lawn is showing now and the ground is still frozen so it's not muddy at all. She was so happy to be outside yesterday that she screamed when her mommy put her in the van to go home. :) She didn't care it was cold. She wanted to be outside. It was too cold for her to be out for long though.

Well, I better go back to bed and snuggle up with the Easter Bunny for a while till the sun comes up. :)

Brenda

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

10"!!!! that is not even funny!
Glad the greenhouse is ok. It looks very nice BTW.
Hope that crappy white stuff melts soon.

We had a ton of company yesterday. The sun was so nice you could go out on the deck and watch the birds. Had a hawk swoop in and grab a bird for everybody to see. Deer and water fowl showing off. It was a nice day. But ate too much.
Today more food, but we get to go away this time.

Hope the egg hunt goes well. I remember the kids complaining about the hunt for their baskets, but after they grew, they missed it.

So this year, I hid a basket. (in the cabin in the woods). Then just had a plastic egg on the counter in some candy. In the egg was a clue and the rules of the game. DD found the first clue
about 20 seconds after coming in the door.

I used puzzles like jumbles or crytpo they had to solve. Then the last egg had the key to the cabin in it. They had a great time. They were so happy.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Happy Easter everybody.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

pepsidrinker, great greenhouse. I'm so jealous of you and Dori and all your greenhouse planting.
We got about 10 inches of snow too, but quite a bit of it melted yesterday.

cpartschick, sounds like a great easter game!

My sister in Kalamazoo says she saw a couple of robins the other day. The blackbirds are back at my bird feeders, only the squirrel isn't afraid of them.

Before it snowed I did see some bulbs popping up. No crocus blooming yet though. I know I have the late blooming ones, but I'm getting less and less of them ... do you thing the animals are eating them?

Happy Easter Everyone,
toofew

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm new and live in New York State. Goldfinches are turning summer colors,Robins are here, tulips and daffodils are sprouting, which brings me to a question, how soon would anybody apply "Liquid Fence"
We still have frost on the ground and some snow patches.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Of course we are ready for spring just have to answer me one question.... Where is it? We were on our way to it... It dissappeared!!!! We are under 13 new inches of snow. It snowed from 10:30 am to around 3:am!!! That was on Friday.. So sick of this winter when will it leave us??? Yes Ive seen many Robins around here also... Toofew... Im from Kalamazoo, where is your sister from? Just wondering if I know the neighborhood. I live on the East side for many years.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Welcome ge1836. I've already put my Liquid Fence down. I also sprayed in January or whenever I could get out to do it. I have a terrible problem with the rabbits coming in and eating the bark off my trees and chewing on the branches of my roses. I know the deer love Grape hyacynths. If they're up then I'd be spraying. I'm spraying my fruit trees tomorrow. Remember that the Liquid fence only works if you respray ever 3 or 4 weeks. It's a pain to do but it works and it's better than having all your stuff chewed up.

It's snowing!

We did have a nice day though and the little granddaughter was able to hunt her eggs outside. We had her all bundled up so she wouldn't get cold. Took about a million pictures. She had a blast. Dinner went well too. Sent the leftovers home with my son and DIL.

Everything was perfect.................

and then it started snowing this evening. Not sure how much we're getting. Don't care. I'm not looking outside again till April. :)

Brenda

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

So where is just one of those pictures? We want to see!

Welcome 1836. Sounds like your weather is close to ours. We are all pretty sick of winter here, but it hangs on and on.

Can't believe all the snow you all got south of us. Didn't you have flowers ready to bloom? That is just crazy.
Up here the flowers are still tightly in the ground. They haven't even started to wake up and peek out yet.

Got some pictures of the geese and a couple swans that were swimming by the kitchen window. This morning it is all frozen again. It has been quite the X rated show out front, as the wildlife is in "spring fever" mode. I love watching the sandhill cranes dancing for attention of a female. Too far out on the marsh for a pic though.
