Yes, you mentioned that a week or so ago and I told him. That comment was (I'm sure) in regard to that.
I too, find them mostly soothing, until you get that one crazy one with the "air horn" beak.
R U Ready for Spring?
I woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground. THe walkway and driveway and deck are all white again. Winter is just hanging on. It's hard to believe that Spring will arrive next week. It sure doesn't look like it at my house. We still have a lot of snow on the ground here. The only place I can see any grass is under the shade of the big pine trees. Easter is Sunday after next. I had hoped to have an outdoor Easter egg hunt for my little granddaughter but if this darn snow doesn't melt within the next two weeks it just isn't going to happen. I guess I could line them all up on the cement driveway and let her run around and pick them up. ha ha ha I think I read somewhere that this is the earliest that Easter has ever been ??? I may not have that quite right but it won't be this early again for a long time. I'm fine with that. I like Easter to be sunny and green and decent weather outdoors. I guess I could make an Easter bunny out of snow like a snowman eh? ha ha ha
Have a great day everyone. I'm going to just lay around today. I had the crud day before last and I think I'm still worn down by it.
Brenda
Cloudy and dreary here today, NO new snow but they said some cometh-pfffft!
Im going to watch movies i think today!
Ive been coughing for a month here!!
Same here Dori,
Perfect day to put the feet up. I think first, I'm going to run to Tractor Supply, and get me a garden cart. I've been wanting one and the prices seem better than most. I'm going to need one to lug all these co-op plants around, when I start getting them. (Not to mention all the catalog orders, lol)
HAVE SEEN LOTS OF SQUIRRELS, I HAVE SEEN THE FIRST PATCH OF YARD THAT I HAVEN'T SEEN SINCE DECEMBER. YEAH
brenda-way cool about the eagles and poor poor deer, it wont be able to jump your fence and eat all your stuff!!
I have seen squirrels all winter like I said before, but now there are hoards of them.
How many is in a hoard?
I would say if I can look outside and see 7 black ones, 4 gray, a couple of reds and a chipmunk,at one time, that equals a hoard.
Hope everyone feels better soon. That is a nasty crud going around.
Loon, the snow may be gone by Easter, but if it is, it may be too muddy for the hunt. Hope you are able to still do it. Sounds like fun.
LOL Dori. My fence around the veggie garden is 8 feet high so even if that deer had all four legs he'd have a time jumping it. :) I try to keep the other stuff sprayed so they stay away.
I don't have hardly any squirrels on my property but at the end of the road and the next road over they have tons of squirrels and chipmonks. I think it is becaue they have oak trees and acorns and I don't have any I don't think. I have planted a lot of acorns but I'll be dead and dust before they ever produce acorns. :)
My yard inside the fence has thick grass and it's planted on a top layer of sandy soil so it dries out pretty fast. If the snow melts it could be dry in a day. I'm hoping anyway. Maybe we can do an egg hunt inside the big pole barn. ha ha ha We'll just have to wait to see what we get. Every day is a mystery. No boring hot all the time sunny weather for us. No way!!
Brenda
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO been outside today and it was wonderful
Hit 100 out in the gh where the grandbabez and I potted up a bunch of DIRT to put the lilies in. I hope its sunny this weekend so i can get the ones i have potted and labled!!
its melting its melting!!
It is the nicest day yet.
Saw mergansers for the first time in the water, and a big flock of sea gulls. I am not sure what they were doing.
I went to town and saw at least 3 trucks out on the ice, on the other end of the lake. Crazy people I tell you.
DH called me and asked me what I was doing. I lied and told him I was on the deck, sitting on a chair, drinking a cold beer.
He swore at me under his breath and went back to work.
I did clean all the snow off the deck though, and with the sun, it was almost warm enough to sit out there.
Been out in the greenhouse today too...saying sweet nothings to my seedlings! They are so cute.. Snowpiles continue to shrink....if we have anymore snow I will be in the depths of depression. The birds are singing their hearts out....they are happy too.
Saw my first robin last night...
you know if we hadnt had leap yr this would be the 13th of march and that is the day my mom died and ever since then i have "noticed" that this day is the warmest!!! :)
Warm memories? That is nice. A good way to remember your mom.
Nice sighting of the robin. SIL from Clare saw a flock the weekend we had that ice storem. I haven't seen any yet.
We did see a flock of redwing blackbirds though, last night. We usually see them the end of Feb. Last night I was looking at the water fowl and saw a small flock of something fly over and to the house. They lit in our oak tree and started singing.
I hollared for DH to come upstairs and look. I know that song. Sure enough, there were 10 in the tree. Yeah!
Melting good, but still plenty left to go!
the sun is out so im heading to the GH to pot up the lilies i received in the mail this week!!
hope your weekends are wonderful
dori
I planted some seeds for the very first time and they are tarting to come up!!! How exciting..... And I have crocuses coming up!!!! They are popping there pretty little purple heads out of the ground:):):):) I actually seen three robin today!!! Could it be is the spring right around the corner!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Do you think we are excited at all???? Very sunny last couple of days around here also.... I do not know if you can see them amungst all the leaves but they are there!!!! Have a great weekend, Ronna
wow an other beautiful day out there !!! It got a little crazy for a while I got a call at work that the little mister was on his way to Gladwin ER he got a piece of metal from a hammer in his wrist and was bleeding realy bad so flew up there its loged in his wrist bone so there going to leave it there its small and if it bothers him he will have to go to a specialist to have it removed up side of that I got to get out side to day and hes alright in some pain but fine MEN!!! LOl
Gloria
Glad he is ok. That must have been scary. I do know about husbands!
I once got a message at work from DH that he was ok, and would be home (from the ER) right after I got home from work, and not to mind all the blood in the garage, he would clean it up when he got home.
Now just what part of that message was suppose to make me feel better?
This is a man that when hunting out west the year before this incident, broke his thumb and wouldn't go to the Dr.
Months later he had a lump on his thumb that later puffed up and a small shard of bone peeked up through the hole. He asked me to pull it out and it healed nicely.
I was thinking what would make him go to the ER? Well, he had gashed his hand open and needed stitches. Gee, no big deal.
I whine when I get a paper cut!
But I am not whinning about this weather!!!
Gloria,
Glad your husband is going to be OK. Was this one of those electric hammers? I can't imagine metal coming off of a regular hammer and embedding itself in your wrist bone. He must have really be swinging hard. :)
It's kind of cloudy and gloomy here. I hope the sun is going to come out soon. Next Sunday is Easter and I guess I'm going to pick up some stuff to make dinner. I think instead of buying a big ham I'm just going to pick up the ham steaks. They are really good and it is a lot less leftovers and mess. We have to refill some prescriptions for my mom and hubby so we might as well do the Easter dinner shopping while we're at Walmart. I've already got the baby's Easter basket stuff done. Her little personality is becoming more pronounced lately. I've noticed she is extremely organized. She wants to line things up and put them exactly where they belong in order. I have no idea where she got that from. Certainly not her parents. ha ha ha
I hope it warms up some today and melts a little more of the snow. I see a little more green each day.
Have a great day everyone.
Brenda
Spring is definately on it's way ................ our dog got Skunked a couple days ago. Oh my goodness, she must have been inches away from that skunk and got it full strength.
Been washing everything that isn't fastened down, and we still smell it. I think it was under the front porch when it let the stink fly .......
Spring ... also called "Mud and Skunk season" ................ but I still can't wait for it to arrive. ;)
Loon it was a regular hammer he was holding the part of the car that the other guy was trying to fix and a chip flew off the hammer and is stuck in the little misters wrist I hate the hell be okay but calls hes had heart attacts 3 broke his back wrecked his moter cycle cut the end of his finger off now this I think hes trying to see if he can send me over the edge LOL
I saw an eagle today on the way to work up in a tree how cool there so big and beautiful
I'm going out side to get some sun vitamines in a min. so talk later
Gloria
To get skunk out of a dog.
mix together (I just pour soap in the bottle)
1 bottle hydrogen peroxide (16oz)
1 to 2 Tbs dish soap (antibacterial type)
pour directly on dog and shampoo in. Rinse.
This is the ONLY thing I found that works. Some how there is a chemical reaction with the stink and makes it go away.
Thanks cpartschick ............... we tried "pet store" stuff, and it didn't work very well at all.
A groomer gave me a recipe for one that is very similar to what you use and it worked much better ...
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon dish soap *one that is a degreaser
She said that after bathing with that formula to use a douche (vinegar rinse) and rinse the dog with it .... you leave this on and towel dry.
She did tell me that it can take months to completely get rid of the odor. Each time you bath the animal the water reactivates that lovely smell.
Edited to add : Recipe is for a "beagle" size dog. Increase as needed.

It was pretty gloomy looking here today Im feeling kinda gloomy, don't quit know why.... Ronna
I pot my plug up in any old pot-Mostly the 4in ones and any kind DIRT! grow them that way till about midsummer then plant them in the ground and keep watered well!
Have you ever used the peat pots are they okay??? thanks for the info :):):):)
Yes i have used every pot under the sun i think
I use to make the newspaper ones when i first joined davesgarden!
I like the peats and cowpots cuz you can stick them right in the ground!
I have more stuff coming this month!! (rolls eyes)
Dori how about the lilies we just got can I put then in the peat pots and then plant them later after we get rid of this mess we got ??
Gloria
bert told us to pot them and put them in the gh-that is what i did
I was going to store them in the cellar for a few more weeks till the weather
breaks!!!!
I know i have more in the mail and phlox arriving next week-spring better hurry!
I don't have a green house ( sigh ) so they eaither go in the shed (no light ) or covered deck (cold) or in here with me(being over run with plants) and I dont even have my flocks or begonias or or or LOL I guess I go to Lowes and buy more pots!!
Gloria
If you are short on pots you can always pot up in styrofoam cups with a drainage hold punched into the bottom of it. It's sterile and will work well. That is probably what I'll do shen the phlox come in the mail. I bought one of those cheap greenhouses from Walmart so I'll put them all in a tray and zip them up inside of it till it's warm enough to plant them outdoors.
It's raining here today. Woke up to a bit of snow on the ground that has given way to a bit of ice. Put some some icy melt on the walkway so we don't fall and bust our butts. Have to take my mom to Tawas today for a shot in her knee and tomorrow I have to have her at the dentist at 7:30 a.m. to have a cracked tooth pulled. Poor old thing. I hate to take her out at all. It would have been nice if the weather wasn't so crappy. I hope things turn around soon. I hate the cloudy doom and gloom.
I am excited to report that I was able to get some things I really wanted through my local Arenac Conservation plant sale. The forms came in the mail and lo and behold they have the Honeycrisp apple trees I've been wanting. I ordered five of them for $14 each. I also ordered the Zestar apple trees.........five of those. I also ordered 5 hazlenut trees and 5 crabapple trees. I got some tree collers and some plantskyd that is supposed to repel voles and other animals for six months. I pick them up next month at the fair grounds in Standish. I've ordered plants and trees from them before and they come with extensive root systems and are very very healthy. I never lost one plant. They sell flowers too and things like asparagus, raspberries etc. Very good prices and you don't have to pay any shipping. Check out your county's conservation department for any sales they may have.
Have a great day everyone.
Brenda
