Dave,
I know we have "Garden Products" as a thread under "General Gardening" but I'm thinking that, since tools are the Most vital with gardening, it might be nice to have a thread just for that.
I'm looking for info on a hole digger...for my caliche soil here in Austin, and the "products" thread is filled with gloves, fertilizers, etc. Or perhaps it's time for sub-categories in the threads? Now THAT would be organization....:-)
Request for "Garden Tools" thread
Connie, I'd just start a thread for that in the garden products forum. Your question is a perfect fit for what's supposed to be discussed in that forum, and the forum itself doesn't get a huge amount of activity so I can't see how to justify splitting it. I guess nobody's needed tool recommendations lately, but that forum is a perfectly appropriate place for that question.
I had to go look to make sure I'd not lost my mind. I thought we had a "tool shed" forum but it's the "Garden Shed" forum. That forum would be a good place to post about tools and seems to have some recent posts. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/shed/all/
I also did a DG search including post hole digger and although I did not read every single one, there were 177 posts.
I'd forgotten about that one. I was never entirely clear on what the difference was between it and Garden Products.
I could be wrong but thought it was called the Tool Shed a long time ago. I guess that would make a difference concerning where you'd post. I don't really think of tools as products.
No, you're right, if you read the description it is about gardening tools. The Garden Products forum isn't quite as specific in its description so I guess anything goes! Most of the posts I'd seen on Garden Shed were about larger things like chipper/shredders, lawnmowers, etc so because of that I was picturing big stuff like that belonging in Garden Shed and smaller things in Garden Products.
Ah...the Garden Shed! I"ll try that! Meantime, I'm hand digging holes....no blisters but I have really sore fingers every time...can barely type here for DG...oh dear! haha
LOL Connie! Hate to say it sounds pretty typical for what us plant nuts will do in the name of gardening. ;) Have you tried a pick axe or post hole digger or both? You'll have some pretty nice arms when it's done (of course it's never done!!).
My Dad taught me to always water the day before I was to dig. I used a pick ax for many of the holes here in my yard. I would think that starting a thread on your forum, where others in your area can relate to your conditions would be the best place to ask your question. Good luck!
I think I'd be dangerous with a pick ax...haha
I do use a "sharp shooter" shovel....that helps a lot!
