I use to overexpose until the citation. I like the second pic Victor. I've had plenty of night snow shots come out better that cloudy ones during the day.
Fairly nice here today.
Found the BIGGIE icicle
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 13
Wow - another monster cicle. I'd be so tempted to go break it off.
The gutter would probably come off with it... Big Popsicle Al! ☺
Fiberglass flavored I'm sure.
I had a Funniest Home Videos moment chopping ice off a roof years ago - I was up on the ladder hacking at this big chunk in the roof valley and it came loose like a glacier and started to push me and the ladder away from the house. I was able to hang on to the gutter and stop it - then hop off the ladder and let it fall.
LOL! Funny... good thing you didn't get hurt! ☺
love those shots as always Victor
I don't think we've had any icicles this year.
ugh... we had an ice storm last night... my plow even came by to scrape the street
We lucked out pretty good considering what they got just north of here. Four inches with a layer of sleet on top, not bad at all.
Al I hope you win the icicle wars out there, but be careful.
Overcast here this am, no wind and a balmy 25 degrees. May get warm enough for a little melting, tomorrow even warmer in the 40s.
We only got about 4" so im not complaining!!
Beautiful. Probably looking for his lady love.
aaaaaawwwwww how sweet
He looks kind of grouchy this morning. No wonder they fight.
Nice shots, WC.
WC, thanks for posting....I wouldn't of minded looking at the other 25 photos!! To me that is one of the most beautiful sights in winter, the red of his feathers against the white of the snow!
Oh, beautiful pics! Have not seen my cardinals in a week or 2--Amy, hope your hubby gets home safely--Nancy--sorry you had to postpone--Norwalk area actually got tons of snow--more than we did, which was 8"---it is flurrying again--am waiting for plow guy to come back--we got an add. 3" after he left last night, & I must go out & shovel the front walk, but I'm lazy!
Thanks Pixie & Onewish1, that's exactly why I like the snow Pixie, I can get a great neutral background which allows me to focus on the subject without much distracting clutter in the background to take away from the shot. They're also my favorite subject in the winter. They're being so wary and easily frightened makes it a challenge I enjoy. ☺
great shots
Well it has warmed up to 30 and there are still flurries. We scraped off the additional inch of "stuff" that fell last night. I guess that means we ended up with a total of 8". We are fortunate to have several pairs of cardinals who visit the feeders and their habit is to feed just before dusk. The doves are fun to watch as they dig down and around in the snow and peek their little round heads sup from time to time. I could hear the Carolina wren trilling as we went about the driveway cleaning. What a cheerful sound they make! -Lynn
WaterCan - those are gorgeous shots of the cardinal in the snow. May I use one for my desktop background? They are all so pretty!
My son said he got 11 inches of snow in this latest storm in Conn. The Gov. closed all state offices. That is very rare! He is an accountant in Corporate Finance, and this is his first Sat. off in quite a few weeks. He's been spending the morning with the snow blower....wonderful inventions!!
Here it's just too humid for me to go outside. I worked in the garden this morning but shouldn't have. My fever is back and I'm afraid since this is day 8 it is time to find a walk-in clinic. Doctors are all out on their boats on the weekends. Don't you hate being sick when you want to be playing outside??!! Hope all of my DG pals are warm and healthy up there!! My DH woke up with a sore throat. Uh OH. AND our friends are still here visiting and we want to spend some time with them!! Not today! But the good news is, it is nice to walk outside and pull up an onion, tomato, some dill, rosemary & parsley to make some healthy chicken & dried bean soup....brewing as we speak....
Nice shot WC.
Bright day here, 25 or so.
Looks like a red-bellied, not pileated.
Pileateds are bigger too, aren't they?
Thanks for the ID guys ... I knew it wasn't the regular Downy ones I've seen! ☺
Yes, Victor. Forgot to say how much I love the cardinal pics and DonnieBrook I hope you feel better! My DBF woke up with a sore throat too.
Thanks so much, WC! That is very thoughtful of you!
I agree with Booj and Victor....that is a red-bellied woodpecker. The Pileateds are very tall. We have some nesting in our yard here now. You can't mistake their loud cry either. It is very loud and very distinctive. We also have lots of red-bellies constantly at our feeder. I noticed yesterday that the Scrub Jays actually defer to the red-bellied woodpeckers. I thought Jays stood up to just about anything. Wrong!
Thanks, Booj.......just tried the hydrogen peroxide ear trick from the home remedy thread. I'm desperate to try anything right now, and I put a lot of stock in what Victor shares on these subjects. DH just gargled with HP too.
Well the peroxide in the ear was not mine - that was Allison's. I never tried that. The gargling, however, I will vouch for!
Oh, you're right.......Thank YOU, Allison.......I appreciate your sharing that YOu-Tube Doc with his peroxide method.....I need to go back and read how often you are supposed to do it......My brains are already close to mush....don't need to bleach 'em silly!!! LOL
I'm wondering if it turns your hair blond...
...I'm wondering if it turns your ears blonde. ☺
Hard to tell about the hair since I'm already blonde, but not a white blond, so we'll see! I do think some dribbled on a few locks.....maybe I'll go bottle blonde if I like the shade!! LOL As to the ears.....well, I'll try to contort around and see inside my ear to report on its "blonde" qualities as well.
Two weeks to Daylight Savings!
and just when it's starting to get light in the morning.
Donniebrook, I hope you rally, so we can get together. I am a natural blond too, but by this time a year my hair is a dirty blond color. By summer, it has become quite blond again from all the gardening and being out on a boat. But like the season, I am definitely drab now. My brothers were big time swimmers and they always put peroxide in their ears. Get well so I can share your walk. Patti
