Making the move
Lisa-
Try Upstate New York! you've got mountains, forests, farm land, the St Lawrence River... the fishing and hunting is great (if you're into that) No Twisters, no tropical storms, just the occasional blizzard (perfect opportunity for some snugglin')
If you don't want to go that far north in the state, try central NY, like Geneva or Waterloo (SO's hometown) They have gorgeous old buildings and streets lined with big old maples.
There is nothing as perfect as a walk there in the fall, with the leaves blazing red yellow and gold above your head....
In any case, good luck! Any state (or country) will be lucky to get you!
Thanks again Lisa...
So, what have you guys decided on? Just curious to know if you'll be my neighbour....speaking of Neighbours, I hear Mr. Roger is Retiring..... my kids used to watch him all the time. He sure is a comforting charachter for the kids. A bit of a goof ball - in a nice way...
Lisa~ Good luck to both of you, even if you don't move to Tennessee! Landscapers are in hog heaven around Nashville, tho.LOL
Change is scary for all of us but it also promotes growth. It's like applying the pruners to an overgrown bush that has just gotten too fat and too comfortable in the spot that it was planted in. It may struggle for a while but it will ultimately reward you with beautiful new green leaves and a stronger and healthier plant. Go for it Lisa!!!!!!!!!
Hey Lisa,You can come up on the banks of the Big Muddy Mississippi up here in Illinois. We have all 4 seasons up here. Just think hubby could also have a snow removal business up here! Keith
Lisa, if you can not relocate to sunny vancouver island, I suggest Washington Oregon, as this area is second to none when it comes to one of GOD,S little green acres. Just take the plunge. LOTS of dg people over here to lend support and a helping hand. Besides then we could quiz you on all those Louisiana Recipes and your Southern plant Knowledge. jack + fam.
Lisa, we are now in the same boat - we have decided to take the plunge and move to a warmer climate -Just pretty darned tired of all this rain and grey overhead. thinking about florida.....
what did you guys decide on?
I think I will post a plea for floridians to help me narrow my search of the perfect city/town in that great warm/hot state.
Hey pebble, alot has happened since I first posted this thread. My husband went to TN and found not one, but 2 jobs. We also found a home within our budget and bid on it. The bid was accepted and things were falling in place. We hired a house inspector to do his job and the house failed the inspection. We could not reason moving from a decent home to one that need so much work and money put into it. Then my dh landed a nice contract here. (It was a year 'round landscpaing job--those bids are hard to come by)So that made it hard for us to leave. Then there is the fact that my mom is elderly and I am the one that looks in on her (she is a widow). I just couldn't bring myself to leave-I know she needs me. A few other factors also made us think we need to be here for a little while longer. We agonized over the decision to move and prayed hard for God to give us the wisdom on what to do. We feel like He has and this is home for now. I do love our growing season here. When we went to TN for Thanksgiving, it was beautiful...but cold! My skin is too thin to move north..*wink* I know it is south...but it was cold!!! Good luck in your search, I'd choose Fla, esp. the panhandle area, I've been there lots and it is very nice! There was just a study out and Fort Walton/Destin area was one of the cheapest places to live. I just love that area. There schools are really good also. We looked into moving there 4 years ago, but we were so dirt poor then we couldn't afford the gas to move even if we found a place! I am so sorry to read what happened to you dh..how sad for you and so many other familes. My heart goes out to you. I do hope something falls in place for yall, if you need to you can email me.((((hugs to you))))
Lisa,
Giving it over to God is the key, as I can see you already know. Being open to His will for you is a matter of faith, and not always so easily accomplished. :) Sometimes the opportunities He presents to us are not obvious and sometimes we are looking in another direction. Most often, we are impatient. Jer. 29:11 and Psalm 46:10 will offer some insight. Let Him guide you.
You are right to stay with your mother, I believe. She needs you and I think you also need her.
I understand how you feel about the school system, though. AL is awful, too. I can't imagine LA being lower than AL. :) Our daughter is in a private school. Many people here homeschool.
I trust that you will make the right choice because you are seeking the right assistance (divine, that is).
I will pray for you and your family.
thanks smiln32, we are confident that we are where we are supposed to be at this time in our life :) Our schools here could most likely put AL. to shame, Louisiana is always the last on the list for every survey that is put out. We will homeschool if we can't get her into the school we are looking at. Thanks again for the nice words. :) Lisa & family
