What are "tagged pages" and...

is there a place here on Daves that explains how to use the features/tools etc?
Thanks!

There are a couple of very long threads about it, which are interesting, but take a long time to read.

Basically, Tags are taking the place of Favorites. Are you familiar with the previous Favorites folder, up in the right-hand corner of your screen?

I'm not. And also do not understand this "tags" feature. ???

I'm not the best 'splainer on this topic, but I seem to be the only one answering. (Where's ecrane??)

If there is a page you would like to remember, to come back to at another time, if you click on the little yellow folder at the top-right, you will see a new page open up to you. It "remembers" your page, and asks you what you want to "name" it so you will be able to find it again. Just a word or two or three.

The bigger box below that will fill up with the names of previously tagged pages, in case you want to choose one of those. If so, your page will be added to the existing "Tag." If you don't want to use those, make one of your own.

At the bottom of the page, you'll be asked if you want this page that you've tagged to be seen by all of us, or just keep it private. And below that, there are detailed instructions on how to use tags.

Try clicking on the folder.

I don't know why I didn't notice this thread yesterday...nap's explanation is good but I'll add a few things in case it still isn't making sense.

Basically, tags are like keywords that will help you find a page again later. You can give a page multiple tags...for example, if there's a thread about someone trying to control fungus gnats on their tomato seedlings, you could tag it with "fungus gnats", "tomatoes", and "seedlings".

You can make private tags to mark your favorite threads and nobody else can see these, but if you make your tags public, they can also help others to find threads on subjects that interest them. I can't count the number of times someone's posted a question that I know has been answered before, but I can't find the thread that it was in. Now, next time someone asks a question about fungus gnats, hopefully I can go to the list of tags and find the tag "fungus gnats" and find that thread right away.

I'd encourage people to make most of their tags public...you're probably not the only one who liked so-and-so's lasagna recipe or has problems with fungus gnats, and if you make your tags public then other people can benefit too. There are some things that may really be private and only of interest to you (one person brought up that they wanted to bookmark a happy birthday thread that someone had started for them, that's something that probably wouldn't interest anyone but the b-day person), but I imagine the vast majority of tags are going to be helpful to at least one other person on the site, so unless you have a really good reason to keep them private, it's nice to make them public so they can help others.
