Excellent! So, you have a pool? When are we all invited? (And don't say winter time!)
Home Remedies????
When you're all at stage 3.
LOL Oh Victor you are good! I think this is so different than gargling with salt water, people do that all the time or used to back in the dark ages.
I should have known better!
I used to gargle with salt water when I had a cold - didn't do anything. Peroxide, on the other had, really helps, as I stated earlier.
Okay, I'm convinced that I should gargle with peroxide . . . :-)
At this point it won't do much to help you, Michaela. It's effective when it's just starting.
Well, it's still good information to have, Thanks Victor :-)
Ya lost me Sherry.
Come to think of it Victor, I can't recall a single mosquito in my dryer either.
the dryer sheets didn't work for me... got eaten alive anyway... my honey could be next to me all day the bugs leave him alone and return with 20 bites
I've heard you should try eating less sugar if they like you over someone else.
don't really eat much now... but it's worth a shot... thanks
People react to mosquito bites because of an allergy to the "anesthetic" the mosquito injects before sucking out your blood. Almost all people are allergic, but an annoying few are not. They can get bitten without noticing.
Mosquitos and fleas like me. If I go into a place with 20 people and fleas, the fleas scout me out and bite me and ignor other people. Same with skeeters. A bunch of us can be standing around and I get nailed. Never could figure it out. I came to the conclusion, how much you move and the color of your skin. ( I tan very easy ) and I don't eat or drink stuff with sugar in it. Well sometimes I might have a cookie, or a 1/2 a brownie..... Very seldom.
hehehe
Mom is always making fun of me because Mosquitoes don't like me. I can be standing beside her bug free, while she can't be seen for a cloud of them.
I am a skeeter magnet and get welts from the bites.
ouch!!
I don't even get itchy.
at least I know I am not alone.... between the skeeters and spiders not sure which bites were worse last year... but I got bit by something that made my leg swell up so bad I went to the ER.... it was on fire for three days... even the dr. didn't know what to make of it
Ooh - that's scary. Could have been a spider. Fire ants?!
Yeah, sounds like spider bite, except the docs didn't know what it was.
i am a mosquito magnet. i stopped wearing perfume, i use unscented hair products, unscented deodorant, even unscented soap. And it just doesn´t matter. And i swell up from them way more than most people.
Back in STL, we had chiggers (i don´t know what you really call them...) i remember one time having 50 bites on one leg. yeesh.
Amy, you call chiggers, chiggers. I hate chiggers.
i'd put clear nail polish on them, which seems to make them stop itching quicker, though they still look ugly - and totally get in the way when you're shaving your legs. They say that the chigger is this tiny thing that burrows under your skin, and the nail polish suffocates them, but i am pretty certain that is a myth.
Ugh, ick.
I just don't shave when that happens.
I wouldn't know a chigger if it bit me on the grAss.
Yes you would wrightie!
So you shave your legs unless you get chigger bites Victor?
Just one.
I get bit by everything. I'm a magnet. Is a chigger really something that gets under the skin or is it just some sort of no-see-um? I grew up in Broome County but don't remember there being chiggers there -- are they all over NYS?
No, I have heard / read that they burrow into your skin.
EEK
"Chiggers attach themselves to the skin, hair follicles or pores by inserting their piercing mouthparts. When chiggers attach to humans, they are not usually noticed for some time. During feeding, they inject a fluid into the skin which dissolves tissue. Chiggers feed by sucking up the liquified tissues. The human immune reaction to a bite prevents the chigger from obtaining adequate nourishment. They rarely survive long enough to complete a meal."

they sound fun
Gotta love that last line.
Blech!! Wrightie, I don't think they have chiggers up as far north as NY. My dad lives in Central America. They're horrible down there!
i haven't run into them much here in CT - but in St Louis and in Tennessee - yikes.
I got a chigger attack at my friends place in south jersey.... not fun ... one of the prices they pay for living in the pine barons.... tons of bugs... I lube up with skin so soft to try and avoid the ticks down there
back to my bite story... once the swelling in my leg went down three days later.. the bite mark was so hard to see... couldn't tell if it was a tick, spider or whatever... but there were two spots that might have been them... I think the little bugger got me twice
but I don't think we have fire ants around here.... although I could be wrong about that.... going to go look it up... I was out doing spring clean up and weeding and my ankle was acting up so I was sitting on my retaining wall when I could while working .... didn't even see the little bugger... didn't realize I was bitten by something till I came inside and got changed from my dirty clothes ... within an hour is when the burning started... felt like sunburn... lots of ice packs on that one... had one on each side of my leg
I got a lymes test just in case ... all good with that
Thanks, Victor, for sending me to this thread....hadn't seen it, as I'm always forgetting to check out threads that aren't on my "watch list". I just tried the h. peroxide in my ear, so I'll report back how it works. I think I am a good candidate to test it today....."mild" fever, terrible congestion, general yukky all over.......I also made DH gargle with Victor's solution of HP/water....He's just coming down with it. I'll give a report later........Stay well, Pals!!
So did I. More throat was red and sore last night. Gargled last night and this AM and so far, so good. The kids have been sick so it's probably that. Did my neti as well. Feel better!
